Carlos and his brother completed their work but ended up charging almost $2000 at the end because they messed up the crown molding and had to start over. They spent money and materials without letting us know. When I stated that they should’ve let us know first he started arguing with us. Throughout the job they entered the house after being gone for a couple hours without knocking and joked that they tend to take customers money and ghost them before the job is done.
Description of Work: Interior painting and caulk/paint some jacked up crown molding for 2 bedrooms, a closet, and a bathroom.

On 12/21/11 after 1 month of problems with work preformed my husband and I had enough and decided to terminate the work relationship with Carlos & Juan Castaneda. Carlos and his brother became irate when asked to vacate our home and leave our property. A final payment was made to them and a document was drawn up by CARLOS stating they were asked to leave for unsatisfactory work preformed and the job was left unfinished. After realizing they had no leg to stand on due to the document, they insisted we destroy the paper. We refused to do so and the situation escalated quickly. Juan came at my husband with a crow bar, all the while my husband had a cell phone in one hand and French fries in the other. Again they were asked to leave our home but not before Carlos turns to me and says " let me tell you one thing, I know where you live"! Twice he repeated this statement to me before driving off. As we have a 5 month old son in the home, I felt threatened and called the police. A report was filed and the officer having seen the damages/condition of our home, advised us to proceed with the civil matter as well as the assault by threat charges. He could not believe the condition of our home based on the money paid. We are absolutely moving forward with both cases. I hope my sharing my experience with Carlos & Juan Castaneda of Austin painting can deter them from doing this to someone else. I hope no one else has to go thru this with these two. If anyone is interested, we have plenty of pictures showing the current condition of our home as left by Carlos & Juan Castaneda.
Description of Work: Carlos and his brother Juan Castaneda were originally hired to paint our entire home from the inside only. To ensure they got the job they offered to start immediately, this was important to us as timing was critical. As days went by and the painting seemed to be moving along, they claimed to be able to do other things such as plumbing, electrical and remodeling. This was absolutely NOT the case. My husband would ask if they were able & willing to do certain jobs......they always said yes and named their price. New work orders were written up for every additional job. Additional services included removal of cabinets, widening of entry between kitchen & living area, retexturing of bathroom wall, installing new toilets, installing new baseboards, removing bathroom fixtures & installing new ones and removing & installing new lights in bed/bathrooms. The entry they widened had to be re-done 5 times at our expense. Carlos claimed he knew what he was doing yet after the work started we realized the ceiling started to bow as it was a load bearing wall. In order to see how to properly support the wall, he had to tear down a perfectly good wall and in the end hire another person to come finish the wall. The painting is horrible and ALL needs to be re-painted. They would come in at odd hours and paint half asleep or tired from another job. In daylight you can still see the original wall colors in patches of every room. They were too lazy to pick up the touch up paint from the original purchase location so now the touch ups do not match in color. The touch up paint is lighter in color yet they decided to use and offered to repaint entire house again........but would need to charge us. This is unacceptable as they were the ones who did the original paint job & touch ups as well. The texturing (smoothing) of two rooms looks like it was done in the dark.....by a child. Strokes are clearly visible and the work is unacceptable. In the rooms where cabinets were removed, they did not bother to retexture and just decided to paint. It is clearly visible the difference in textures. In our kitchen, half of the electrical outlets no longer work however they worked fine before Carlos rewired for the garbage disposal. Carlos and his brother were very unreliable and unprofessional. For every additional work order a 30 % or more deposit was required and paid. After EVERY payment given to them, they would disappear for two or three days with unacceptable explanations. We heard every excuse from my father is in hospital to car problems. On a few occasions, we did not even get a phone call or text to explain. Bottom line is we are now out $9,000 in labor charges not to mention thousands in wasted materials (we purchased) but after 1 month our home is still uninhabitable as not a single room is complete.
