It is the absolute worst company I have ever dealt with. The owner is rude and obnoxious and threatening. Nothing to date has been completed. I paid up front (biggest mistake) because that is his demand. I hired him in February 2017. The hall bath (guest bathroom) was demolished in February and 9 months later still no vanity. It took 3 months for a commode and tub to be installed. In the meantime everyone has to use the master bathroom. I paid for new doors and drawers for my kitchen cabinets and to paint them. Nothing has been done. The interior paint job is the worst. The cost was over $7,000, plus I had to buy all supplies including paint, paint thinner and paint roller and furnish rags. The painters did not paint inside closets nor all of the ceilings. They were not going to paint the trim nor inside doors until I insisted that if no money was going to be reimbursed on the sloppy paint job, then I expected doors and trim to be done. Because I had to buy all of the paint, I was willing to let the inside of closets stay unpainted. I had to pay for the plumber, electrician, every nail, board, caulk, plywood, sheet rock, tile, grout, sealer and had to go buy it myself or meet his men there. That was the most stressful time because I did not know what to buy. I understood I would choose what tile I wanted and paint colors,. The owner and I agreed he would not remodel the master bath in March after I saw what kind of work was being done. He was paid and to date has not returned any of that money. He was paid for the kitchen and no work done on the cabinets and refuses to refund me anything. He was paid to have a custom built vanity plus a cabinet above the commode, not done and refused to return that money as well. He says I broke a “valid” contract and under Texas law I cannot break a contract, and therefore he is entitled to keep the money.

They came out and they worked for about a week.  They tore out the bathroom and then they left and I didn't see them again for a few weeks, and that was because they were waiting for the plumbers.  And then the plumbers came out and did a little something.  It was just back and forth.  It was not a happy experience.  He told me it would take two to three weeks to complete the job; it took almost three months and it almost doubled in his estimate, and I bought all the supplies.  No, I was not happy.  In fact, the last thing I said to them was I want you to get those guys finished painting that bathroom and then I want you out of my house and I never want to see you again.  They do not keep their word; absolutely do not keep their word.  This man made promises to me and he didn't keep them.  And he kept coming to me for money and draws to pay his guys.  By the time that I wrote my final check to him, it was only for $600.00 because everything else had been given to him up front.  I was furious - absolutely furious.  The materials deposit - I have no problem with that - but he should still be able to pay his crews out of that deposit.  He did have his tile guy and his cabinet maker - they were great - they knew what they were doing.

Vick, was seldom at out home.  We were told 8 weeks, it took 6 months and a lot of heated conversations to get it to a point where we could get a C of O.
A random subcontractor would show up every week or so.  Vick was horrible to deal with and we finally hired another contractor to finish the detail work and clean up.

Response from Buccaneer Construction
"This couple came to our office and begged us to take on their project and I now wish we had not even returned their calls. The wife I guess ran the operation and he only showed up to scream at the men. They had rented a house in a nearby city and after we had started then started riding us everyday with threating phone calls and deadlines that we never even close to achiving. The other contractor they hired met with me and said they treated him the same way. People like this give Angies List a bad rap with companies like mind that try hard to make people happy. I could have given these people this job and they would have still conplained. I will not put one customer over another no matter what they threaten. Everyone reading this should take it for what it is worth, the project is finished and they agreed it was and now they are saying we did not finish. I have the last check with final payment wrote on it and I will send it forward. This woman was very rude to everyone that worked at this house. I also will send the occupancy certificate from the city showing everything completed proving once again nothing but false hoods. I have said before and will say again Angies list will only be taken seriously when something is done about weeding out people like this, using records, and documents before allowing lies to the written."

I explained the job I wanted to have done, which was to close off a room and install french doors.  I received an estimate on the same day the contractor came to my house.  Because the top of the "doorway" had an arch entry, I asked for the design to remain openat the top of the new wall.  My request was questioned, but they did the job as I wanted.  The walls were finished and painted and the french doors were installed - looked like they had always been there.
I would suggest that the homeowner keep an eye on the work being done.  I have wood floors and did notice there were a few scratches that occurred during the installation of the door.  I did mention the scratches to the contractor, but he gave me no response.
I would use Buccaneer again, but will watch the work being done more closely.

Besides making Uncle's bathroom doorway wheelchair accessable, the shower needed to be renovated as did the spacing in the room.  We didn't know about codes or the ADA guidelines, but were so relieved that Mr. Hegman did know.  His knowledge gave us the confidence we needed to minimize our stress.   Once the work was underway, the workers were more than courteous and  Mr. Hegman's kept us abreast of where we were on the timelline.  He knew that we were caring for Uncle at our homes and knew it was important to us to keep our promise to Uncle -- that he'd return home on a certain date.  Imagine how pleased we all were when the original end date was met 2 days ahead of time!  Uncle is so happy to be back in his home and we are so pleased that he's not totally lost the autonomy that he (we all) value so much.  Since the job's completion in March, we've had friends looking for someone to do renoations in their homes and we've invited them over to see the quality product completed by Buccaneer.  We would recommend Buccaneer to anyone looking to have quality work done.  As a matter of fact, I've hired Buccaneer to renovate my kitchen and I can not wait to start the project with Mr. Hegman's professional staff!

I will start off by saying that I was obviously searching the best contractor in the area, so I first checked with the BBB and found Buccaneer Construction to have won many accolades for excellence and they have an A+ rating.I also learned that Buccaneer Construction has been around for a long time and is well known for their workmanship and quality control.
I called their office and made an appointment for an estimate. Mr. Hegman, the owner, met with me at my home and was very knowledgable and explained in layman's terms how the project would operate. He also explained how the process of my project would start by me picking out my own materials (at his discounted cost) without mark-up. Mr. Hegman managed my budget and I came in below what I expected to spend, (the main reason I am writing this review).
I am very pleased with my room addition. My kitchen is much more functional and convenient. My new Master Bathroom is outstanding! The quality and workmanship is beyond any of my expectations. All the cabinetry was hand built on-site in my home without any cheap prefab.
I am so pleased I took the time to search out this company. I would highly recommend them to anyone searching for exceptional work.

"I would like to thank [member name removed] for his comments and would like to add that our company always attempts to please everyone we come into contact with we all know that this is not always the rule. I hope all the Angies list followers can read though the lines and can feel confident that Buccaneer well deserves the raking of 84th in the United States, by Remodeling Magazine 20012, of the top 550 remodeling companies and a A+ rating by the Houston/Galveston BBB."

Buccaneer does beautiful work and we are very satisfied with the finished product. However, it was a relatively small job and they really took their time --like several months. Each time I would call, I was given a different excuse and basically lied to so many times that the receptionist seemed embarrassed. The actual workers were fine, but overall a very unpleasant experience
Response from Buccaneer Construction
"I will start with the question of why wait a year later to send in a bad review on my company about how long we took completing her project. I have worked for these folks several times in the past and on one occassion repaired a sinking deck ready to slide off into the water that no one else would attempt to repair. I know the [member name removed] well and I respect her husband greatly and I am trying to reach him to find for what reason this complaint was sent. The project was not started on time due to the fact that she had to leave town for several weeks and when she got back she called the office and she was then put back on the work board. After starting the project the tile crew called and we had rot under the old tile and this required a change order and when it was signed we had several days of rain and the crews worked indoors on another project. When weather improved we started back and I can see why [member name removed] was upset with the time line. I really pushed the men to do a perfect job as they could, because I felt terrible that the rot showed up and it had to be repaired. [member name removed] in her complaint even mentions how beautiful the work looks. At this point I am ready sadden by this complaint because I really feel these folks are my friends and could call on my company for any work they needed like in the past. I hope she reads this and contacts me because I would explain to her the issues and listen to her input. I do not think people on Angies list understand that when you write a bad review it ready hurts the company and its employees, because waiting a year to complain is pushing the issue to just hurt the company. Even though Angies List is not owned by angie any longer, I think the company now running the list should filter the content closer."

Review details removed.

A year later, the paint on my kitchen cabinets is starting to crack and chip in some spots.  And no, I will not be contacting this contractor to fix the problem.  I'd rather <insert painful alternative of your choice> than deal with Buccaneer again.
Response from Buccaneer Construction
"We have the contract on file that this woman signed and agreed to. All of our contracts state in bold print that all electrical, plumbing and HVAC is not included and that you can use anyone of your choice or we will supply one to them and that their invoices are billed separate. We have always done business in this fashion and this company has won several awards for this model of labor only and no markup on materials. Also this woman felled to mention that her old range about 20 yrs old broke and I was good enough to call one of my vendors and let her buy the applicance at my cost. This woman works at a high security job in New Mexico and it is very hard to reach ,we tried our best to reach her ,but sometimes days would go by and nothing could be done. I feel bad that she vented on our company. We never received any notice that things were not to her liking or any emails to that affect. The job is very very nice considering with what we had to work with, This complaint is flash for several reasons and the most glaring is the statement about the contract not being open and direct, if fact our contracts are desinged to protect the owner as well as the company. The fact that the paint color we suggested on the cabinets was shown to her on samples and she agreed. I quest in reading the complaint she loves the kitchen and the workmanship. I am at a lost to explain anyfuther."

Job took months and not weeks as promised. No project manager on site. Had to call owner and inform him on several occasions what still needed to be completed. Had to bring in other vendors to fix items after completion. Chose to pay them vs. having to deal with Buccaneer for another second.
Response from Buccaneer Construction
"This gentleman was never at the residence for guidance, and never told us that he was a home fliper, and we rushed as fast as time allowed, and we found out the day we finished he had already flipped the residence and still owed us money. I was never told this was his intentions from the start and this was why he rushed us and was always in a hurry. He left out that the project was finished to his liking and everthing passed inspection, just sore grapes he couldnt flip faster."

The project manager was not on site as I expected and I had to reach out to him regularly to point out issues. I was surprised that the cost of refinishing the front doors of my house only included the front of the doors and not the backs of those doors also. The owner did complete the minor touch ups on the backs of the doors  to 'make me happy' but after the many weeks that had gone by getting to this point, we both agreed it would just be best to part ways at the completion of the work in progress, and not continue with other projects that were tentatively to be awarded to this company pending successful completion of the 'starter' projects. I suspect if I had been able to supervise all the work myself at home every day that the work would have gone much better and I would have encountered fewer issues with the project, but since I work during the day I depended on the contractors PM to make it happen.
Response from Buccaneer Construction
"This man still owes Buccaneer over 1500.00 and will not pay us, after reading this I now will file for all sums owed our company. This man stole our labor and materials and refused to talk we us and now has written this review without any regard to the lies he is stating. I guess you can just write anything you wish , however this company will see him in court."

We got several estimates with wide ranges of prices and materials. Ultimately, we chose Buccaneer because of the good work we'd seen them do on other houses. We were very pleased with the quality of the materials and the finished work. The problems we had were unrelated to the siding: some of the installation vibrations caused framed art to fall from a wall and several stained glass pieces fell out of windows. Yes, things broke. If I had just been warned that this could happen, I would have simply removed objects to safety. Also, they had bookkeeping issues - they did not collect money we owed! I had to call repeatedly to ask for bills so I could make payments, including a final payment of over $2300. If I use them again, I will orchestrate the situation differently.

Buccaneer Construction didn't do a very good job painting at all. In my one room the paint is peeling and it looks pretty tacky. I did try to contact him again and have him come over, however he never returns any of my calls. I think that my experience was a complete disaster.
