Structure Repair & Remodeling

I am writing this review so that no other home owner goes through the painful and costly experience that we did as we gutted much of the project and started over. I first noticed the quality of the work was poor when the office cabinets arrived. They were not furniture grade as requested and the paint job made them look worse. I would have been better off purchasing prefab doors from IKEA, which again was not the custom look I wanted. When the contractor was painting the ceiling it kept streaking. I asked him to spray it instead of brush it with a roller- perhaps then it wouldn't streak. He would not. Instead he did some faux thing and it looks awful. It's so bad when the wallpaper crew came to hang the bathroom paper they gave me their card and said to call them to fix the ceiling. The overall paint job was sticky for over 6 weeks after being painted. I asked my Benjamin Moore paint store manager about this and he said it wasn't painted properly-the primer wasn't allowed to dry before the first paint coat. Next, after purchasing expensive tile, it was laid incorrectly. There are varying gaps between the tiles which is disappointing. Next, the ridiculously expensive molding in the dining room (I have since found other molding stores offering the same molding at 1/3 the price) was not cut right. There are obvious places where it does not fit together. Next, I had asked him to crackle paint a piece of furniture. He primed it which was completely incorrect and ruined it! 101 of crackle painting is paint the dark color first, not light. Clearly this guy doesn't know what he is doing and doesn't research when he doesn't! Finally, we ordered a custom front door with this contractor. After so many quality issues we did not let him install or paint the front door. When we had another contractor come out to measure for installation, he informed us that the door ordered was the wrong size. It did not match either the indoor or outdoor frame measurements. He would make it work, but clearly the previous contractor we had did not know what he was doing.
