 + -1 moreI'm giving the provider a "C" and not an "F" as I'm not sure if the fault is the provider or Angies List. Otherwise I'd say "F" for not responding. I sent a message to Sigma via the Angies List messaging system asking for information and an estimate. Never got a reply.

At first Alex would return my calls and then no calls, would occasionally send a person out to do another portion of the work and as of today we haven't seen him, heard from him, can get a return call and the work is not complete. So frustrating, especially since he seemed like such a nice guy

They finished everything in a timely manner and explained in detail what they had done and how to operate and troubleshoot the new system. Alex advised me that if I ever had trouble with it to call him. He welcomed my 10% off coupon for Angie's List customers. I'm glad I found this company on A.L., and will recommend them to anyone who needs service for an iron gate and fence, a metal bannister, or any kind of metal work repair or creation. They saw a metal console table in my living room that I had purchased from an interior designer and told me they also make metal pieces for the interior design trade.

The next day they returned to finish painting the weld. It was a pretty quick and easy fix for a very reasonable price.

 + -1 moreAlex Sideris is without a doubt, one of the most polite, conscientious and talented people ever to help with anything at my house. He came over the same day I called, sent an estimate via email the next morning, then started the work that afternoon. We discussed, at length, different options for changing how my gates worked and it was fun watching his face light up when we "invented" something that might work. While he was working, my neighbor came over and asked if he could give an estimate for some gate work at her house. He ultimately did a repair job for them, and they were extremely satisfied with it. Alex is so pleasant that I wish I had a lot more welding to be done around the house! He's a good, old-fashioned, handshake kind of person who puts his heart into what he does. I would obviously and definitely recommend him to anyone who needs welding and creative approaches to old problems.
Description of Work: Had front and back wrought iron gates removed, re-fitted with adjustable hinges and reinstalled to compensate for the constantly shifting Houston soil. They removed some big rust spots with a grinder and primed those spots and they also replaced a piece of wrought iron along the top of my fence. They cut another hole so I could use my deadbolt to lock the gate.

Alex and his brother Chris were very couteous, professional, and helpful in explaining the work that needed to be done, and how the new fence and gate could incorporate design and construction improvements that would ensure it would last much longer than the old fence. I would not hesitate to use their services again for this kind of work.
Description of Work: Dismantling and removal of old, rusted iron fence, and on-site fabrication of approximately 20 feet of new iron fence and walk-through iron gate. Re-painting of existing motor-operated driveway iron gate.

 + -1 moreMy 20 year old driveway gate operator was giving me problems (banging closed, wouldn't shut off once gate was closed, etc.). I called some of the other companies reviewed by Angie's List to get quotes on repairs and/or replacements. A number of them jumped straight to replacement and really were not interested in repairing the operator. Some even felt they could give me decent quotes over the phone without even looking at my gate! Alex was willing to look over my old operator to see if we could repair it. Overall the job went very well. I was impressed at how well Alex and his specialists looked over my situation, determined exactly where the gate operator needed to go, how long the arm needed to be, where it would need to attach, etc. They definitely did not just come and drop in a new operator - the whole job was well thought out. The work crew was very polite. They worked for hours and cleaned up when the job was completed for the day. My repainted gate arrived on a flatbed and was carefully packed to prevent scratching the new paint job. The job took about 2 weeks from start to finish. No real surprise here - Alex told me up front it would be about 10 days depending on the availability of his painting subcontractor. The cost was on par with others. The entire job was not cheap, but I asked Sigma to do a lot - basically bring the entire gate back to like new condition. A big reason I gave the job to Sigma was that they could sandblast and professionally paint the gate. All others either did not paint or would spray paint in place. With everything complete, my gate truly looks as good or better than new. Between the power coat and the commercial gate operator I don't expect any issues for at least 5 years (gate operator is guaranteed for 7 years) and should hold up for years after that!
Description of Work: I contacted Alex with Sigma and discussed the situation. He said that he could come look at the gate operator to see if it could be repaired, but it would need to be a paid service call. Actually, that was fine with me since we also agreed that if I needed to replace the operator we would deduct the service call from the replacement cost. He and his gate specialist came out and looked over the operator. They showed me items such as oil drops on the gearbox (indication of a leak) and a bent shaft and worn bearing ring which was causing the gate banging. They said they could probably repair the operator for ~$500 but it would be with used parts and no guarantee. I decided on replacing the operator since I had already troubleshot the operator earlier and came to a similar conclusion that it was on its last leg. I also decided to have the gate sandblasted and repainted. I had a number of rust spots that were showing and the paint was pretty dull. Alex said they had a subcontractor that could do this and repaint with a powder coat as opposed to a standard enamel paint job. They then spent the next hour measuring and collecting data and gave me a quote a couple of days later. I had them install a Liftmaster CSW24V operator - a commercial series operator since my gate was larger than typical (over 15 ft). They came out the first weekend and dug and poured a new foundation to rest the operator. They also installed ball bearing hinges to my brick posts (originally the gate hung on drilled out metal supports) which would make the gate open and close much smoother. They also took my gate for paining that day as well. About 10 days later my gate was painted and they returned to mount the new operator on the foundation and rehang the gate on the new hinges. They then remeasured where the operator needed to be attached to the gate (which required welding a new plate to the gate, so they were very careful to make sure they precisely knew where the connection needed to be). Once connected they powered up and programmed my remotes. The paint job was fantastic - the power coat puts a very thick, almost rubbery coating on the metal. I could actually see the coating thickness on an old cutaway cross sectional cut piece of gate.

 + -1 moreOur garage is in our backyard, and we have an automated gate opener that allows access to garage. The gate started to act funny and did not want to open or close the entire way one evening. I was able to disconnect the swing are from the gate and was able to tie the gate shut. The next day I called the Sigma Co. main office number and spoke with Alex about my gate. He was very helpful and had effectively diagnosed the problem over the phone. We scheduled a service call for their next available opening. Alex gave us an appointment time window and took our cell numbers. The service tech was having some trouble with an existing job and called to let us know that he would not be able to make his original appointment window. He was very professional and asked if we would mind him being a little late, or if we would like to reschedule. I did not mind the delay (only about an hour) so he came by our house later that day. After taking a look at the system, he agreed with Alex's original assessment. He disconnected the swing arm and took it with him to test it. Alex called back later the next day and informed us that we would need a new swing arm. He gave us multiple price and quality options. We decided to get a new arm with a factory warranty. He was able to have his people pick the arm up and com by our house to install it the next day. All told. I called on Tuesday afternoon. They cam by Wednesday afternoon to get the part. They called Thursday afternoon to let us know the results and to plan the fix. Then they came by on Friday afternoon to make the fix. All in all, a great experience. I would highly recommend Sigma Co.
Description of Work: They came to my house for general service call to determine what was wrong with my automated gate system. They were able to determine which part of the system was faulty and took it with them to test the part and see if could be repaired or if a new part was required. The part was tested and it was determined that I would need a new swing are for the gate. They returned with the new swing arm and installed it.

 + -1 moreOverall Sigma did a great job. I called on Aug 31 and within a week and a half the job was completed. Contractors are reluctant to come to my house for smaller jobs because I'm so far out of Houston, but Sigma had no issue travelling to me. I mostly communicated with them via email and they were always prompt with responses.
Description of Work: Sigma replaced the automatic gate operator, patched and painted the holes left from the previous arm. They also repaired the latches and hinges on three walk-through gates in other parts of my wrought iron fence.

Description of Work: I called on 11/6 and they made an appointment for 11/7. Alex, the owner was the person I talked to and he gave me an estimate over the phone and came in about 15 dollars under the estimate. It was a lift master electric gate mechanism that my daughter broke when she backed into the gate. It required welding to reattach. In addition to the welding hey serviced the fence, provided 2 additional remotes and helped me program the key pad. They attached a pad to the close so it would not clang anymore. They were extremely respectful and took pride in thier work. I asked them what other services they could provide. I would definitely recommend and hire them again.

 + -1 moreAfter calling several companies who were not interested in servicing a GTO opener I tried Sigma. Alex was extremely sympathetic, helpful, thorough and professional from the moment he picked up the phone the first time to when he wrote me a detailed close-out email explaining the work that had been done and what we needed to do to keep the newly installed LA-400 gate opener operating well for years to come. Although he too didn't like working on GTOs, he suggested we first try to fix the unit to save money. While I was disappointed this wasn't possible, I knew it had nothing to do with Sigma and everything to do with the lack of GTO service support in our area. Alex provided a discount on the call-out / troubleshooting work they did on the GTO unit and applied it to the already competitive cost of the new Liftmaster LA-400 which also includes a 3 year parts / labor warranty which gives me piece of mind while the house is being rented out during our overseas assignment. I have never come across someone in the skilled trade business with Alex's honesty, desire to please, patience and thoroughness. He spent considerable time writing me several long emails to keep me informed on the troubleshooting, tell me my options for repair and replacement, and keep me posted on the progress of the work. All this was done within one week under time pressure before the tenants moved in and the ultimate results were fantastic. I would highly recommend Sigma to anyone.
Description of Work: Sigma dismantled the control board and the arm of my existing GTO Pro 4000 XL to take it to the local suppliers for testing to try and determine what was preventing the unit from working. They were unable to determine the exact cause without having some replacement parts shipped from GTO. In the end I followed Alex's recommendation to avoid spending more money trying to fix a unit which was difficult to have serviced and had them install a new Liftmaster LA-400 unit with a full 3 year warranty including parts and labor.

 + 1 moreWe contracted with Sigma to do a plain welded panel gate and fence panels. While they were here getting ready to pour the track and footers, I was telling them about a gate a friend of ours has. It's laser cut steel and we've always really admired it but didn't think we could afford it. A couple of days later, Sigma called to say they'd like to work with us and do a laser cut steel gate for close to the same price we'd negotiated. We were surprised and just delighted. We designed the steel panel design ourselves, which took a few weeks, and then the steel fabricators took a few more. This installation ended up taking longer than we had expected, but we can hardly complain. The quality of the installation is great and we couldn't be more happy with the way everything turned out. Definitely one of the best contractor experiences we've ever had.
Description of Work: Poured footer for automatic gate opener, call box and track, and handled all electrical connections. Fabricated and installed fence panels between gate and existing fence. Fabricated and installed locking walk through gate. Fabricated frame and worked with steel fabricator on laser cut steel panel. Welded steel panel to frame and installed gate and motor to open and close automatically. Did a great job caulking and touching up after installation. Programmed call box to house set up, and remote openers.

 + -1 moreAlthough they were very late the first time, they did fix the gate and gave some observations on the overall condition. Also, on the phone, they were very helpful in discussing what might be the issue and how to solve it. The price was fair, so the initial experience was positive. However, the gate did malfuction again (not sure if this was their fault as it could just be that something new had gone wrong--it's not a new gate). So I called them back, and again they were very helpful, offered to fix it for free or apply the original money to a more lasting fix, which was very decent of them. He said he would be out that day or the next and would call me. Unfortunately, no one ever showed up or called. It's been about a week now and I have tried calling their office--no one has picked up, but I left a message which has not been returned.
Description of Work: Our driveway gate would not shut all the way, so had them come out to fix it. They did get it fixed, but it broke again a couple of weeks later. It now only shuts half-way. Called them back and they said they would come out and fix it again for free, but they did not come out when they indicated and have not returned my call.

Description of Work: Sigma chose not to do my welding job for me because of the nature of the metal to be welded. They referred me to two other companies. One of these did a very satisfactory job for me; I;m confident that the other company would have also.
