Bottom line, they held our property for 6 months and cleaned none of it, except one small rug. Our property was returned to us in the same condition it left our home after the fire. The electronics are ruined because they never cleaned them and let the corrosive nature of the smoke exacerbate the damage. For this they charged us approximately $1711. They added insult to injury by sending a letter from their attorney certified mail declaring the matter "closed".They are a total unmitigated di-sa-ster.
The house was immediately locked up after the kitchen fire was put out and they had placed a lockbox so only their employees had full access to the "boxing and gathering" of our things. Through the Better Business Bureau, the main company who is a member has negotiated their part of the many missing items from our home of $3791.00. Therefore, I will sign a waiver not to speak regarding that company. I felt that the loss should be shared by both of these companies. However, Restoration Cleaners is not a BBB member and continues to deny any wrong doings. Of course, it is not known who is or are the perpetrator(s) of the stolen goods. From what can be ascertained, the list totalled approximately $9275.00 worth of personal property that is lost/missing.
The other company has covered boxed contents items except the U.S. Cizenship certificate, the U.S. Passport, the full bottle of Eternity Perfume, HP computer retrieval cd's, gold colored metal lifpstick applicator, 55 gallon fish tank with several tropical fish, (3) Zippo lighter collection, and the 4 x 6 1/2 Oriental rug. The 24" yellow gold chain, jade cuff inks which were both in a pocket of one of five (5) Italian suits with Italian shirts in a garment bag is also missing. Also, an Italian made tuxedo with cumber bun. Most items which the main company did not cover were garments and the oriental rug which Restoration Cleaners would've handled. Restoration Cleaners states that all that was picked up from our house was itemized and have been returned. However, if items were taken for personal gain, of course they would not be on their list. Duh! As for the list of items missing, we had to go through all of our boxes to unpack upon moving back into the restored house to know what else may have been missing. The unpacking took awhile after we moved in so we finally got organized, possibly by mid-August.
Their customer service on the phone was also fair. When the fire occurred on January 8th 2011, I was in California. I could not get to my personal belongings. It was only in March when I was told by my mother, Kiyoko Melton, that my collectible dolls were outside laying in the drive way that I became concerned with my belongings. They were packed neatly in my large luggage along with most of my jewelry. Other set of jewelry was placed in my armoir inside top shelf in my red beret hat. Upon my return to Texas on April 14th, I called Restoration Cleaners regarding my jewelry, the phone support, Nancy smarted off by saying the fire was in January and you're just bringing it up now? In truth, I had contacted mother's insurance agent, Mr. Buddy Roach in March from California when I heard about my dolls in the drive way. Mr. Roach called both persons in-charge of those companies at that time I believe. After Nancy checked her records, she could see that we had inquired of my jewelry and she said "No, we have not found your jewelry."
When I spoke with Mr. Roach, he advised us to wait until we could go through all of our boxes before we made any claims but to make a list, which we did. As I had stated earlier to BBB, a company should answer for their employees good or bad. When their employees do well, they get praises, and when things go wrong, they should be just as accountable.
Overall, I would not recommend this Restoration Cleaners to anybody. The company from the top cannot be trusted.
