PermaClean sold the work on the basis that it was a contractor who does superior work justifying a higher cost than average. The paint job on the house was acceptable, but several matters detracted from the image of higher quality and service. 1. Wash water, from the roof fell on our forty-year old azaleas, which had bloomed beautifully this spring, and were decimated. When brought to the attention of the PermaClean owner he shrugged his shoulders and replied, “prune them back and they will come back.” In the interest of protection of customer property, and having the experience PermaClean claimed to have, its workers should have covered the bushes or alerted us in advance at least. Had we known the possibility existed, we would have covered the bushes ourselves. 2. On the weekend of March 11 our Austin son had planted many plants in flower beds around the house and garage which met the same fate as the azaleas. My 85-year-old wife would later spend several days on her hands and knees replanting. I was recovering from an operation and could offer little help. The purchase and replacement of plants should not have been our responsibility. PermaClean’s response did little to calm my ticked off wife. 3. I allowed PermaClean to purchase lumber required as replacement siding using my credit. Three purchases were made but I have yet to receive a detailed invoice. 4. It seems PermaClean would have provided its workmen with ladders and other tools to do the work. My extension and step ladders were used throughout the project (and not returned in original condition either.) Tools were requested from my workbench numerous times. How does a company touting superior work conduct business without the appropriate tools? 5. There was quite a pile of left over lumber thrown against a side fence. That was ok since the contract states removal of material is not included in the work. It’d been nice if they would have asked the best place to leave it however. Customer care! 6. We’re still picking up nails off the driveway and from the lawn. More PermaClean worker care was needed! A safety hazard! 7. The painters cleaned tools in a half a dozen places from the front yard, to the side yard, to the back. One spot would have been better where little damage would have been done. All they needed to do was ask where. Additionally, in the side yard, painters damaged our neighbor’s black iron fence which was situated behind a rose bed. The workmen had either thrown the bucket (my bucket by the way) of paint water into the roses or flicked the brush that way because there is an extensive amount of paint on the fence. Careless! I had an angry neighbor. I’d missed this when doing the final punch list due to it being hidden by the bushes – but the damage never should have happened I sent the President of PermaClean, photos of the problem and he agreed it needed fixing. He promised to send a man to meet with me and correct it. After following up with PermaClean twice during the following days Permaclean’s response has been silence. There has been no action by PermaClean which does not speak highly to its “5 year labor warranty.” We had the fence repainted ourselves and now have a happy neighbor. Readers of the above must judge for themselves; but when I am asked would I hire PermaClean for any type of general contracting, my answer will be a loud NO!
Description of Work: On March 29, 2018, we contracted with PermaClean General Contractors to power wash our concrete pavement and house. Damaged siding on the house was to be repaired or replaced, window frames recaulked and two coats of finish paint applied to the exterior.
