This company started out making promises about quality that were never kept. Their contract is the standard Greater Houston Builder's Association contract which is written to give him the most power. Get an attorney to review the contract before signing it or Jack (owner of EnvisionDesign Build) has the ability to essentially hold your home hostage and do bare minimum work to prolong his schedule as he completes other customer's homes. His workers tried to hide code violations in walls (electrical connections inside the walls not in a junction box accessible from outside the wall cavity, open electrical boxes in the attic area, etc). The cabinet maker he uses installed the drawer slides not level so the fronts of the drawers actually tilt backward at the top. His foreman and plumber did not install the in slab ducting for the downdraft vent in the correct location and the vent did not fit after the cabinets, countertops and tile were all installed. He refused to make this correct. The garage door that was specified to be 8 ft tall is 7'6" and Jack claimed his engineer said it needed a larger beam across, but in the contract it was specified to be 8 ft tall and we did not agree to a change order to this. Jack did not want to change this and made no concessions for this mistake. He was extremely rude to my entire family as he strung the project out from 3 months to 12 months. All while he kept telling us we could move in and he knew that in the contract that if we did he would be released from any work not completed and still be able to demand full payment based on how the contract was written. He had to tear out part of our driveway and had no intention of replacing it and did not tell us from the beginning that this would be required. Ultimately he felt it was acceptable to leave dirt between our driveway and the car port area. The foundation of the garage was poured much lower in elevation than the old one he removed which ultimately required us to replace the entire driveway and cut it into the ground to allow for water drainage (otherwise water would have drained into the garage when it rained). His workers damaged a tile wall in our master bath while demolishing an interior wall and only pushed the tiles back against the wall and called it fixed when in actuality it was not. His foreman was rude to us when we pointed out mistakes or poor craftsmanship areas. We supplied the sink model for the granite installers and the cabinet maker and neither bothered to look at the installation requirements. This became a major problem for the cabinets since the sink cabinet needed significant modification to even support the sink at all. His flooring installer for the floating floor did not level the floor at all and there are places where the floor has a significant depression under it. The windows on the back of the house are not level and can clearly be seen as not level. There are significant electrical problems with the wiring that was in his scope of work. He claimed that painting the garage was never in the scope of work even though it was claimed to be a finished exterior. These problems are just some of the problems we have found. I had two inspectors write up the deficiencies in his work and both were approximately 80 page reports just for his scope. Like I said previously, he and his foreman were extremely rude as his schedule kept getting pushed out. We believe this was due to him taking a much larger project on at the same time. At one time we even had to install a security camera to see when the workers were showing up. We have a recordings showing that a worker would show up and install a single door handle in a 14 day period just so the company would not fall into default of contract. Ultimately we had to hire an attorney to help us get our home back from this company. We can NEVER recommend them to anyone.

Description of Work: It was such a pleasure working with Envision. Jack is very responsive, friendly, and was able to deliver the project in time, as promised. A few things here and there were not exactly like we would like, but he is by far, the best contractor we worked with.

Jack Knowlton and his team at Envision Design remodeled our home and transformed it from an outdated, inefficient, uninviting house into a spacious, better-than-new dream home with all of the modern amenities. Jack is truly exceptional at what he does. We would highly recommend him to anyone interested in building or remodeling a home. Jack's attention to detail is second to none and he takes great pride in his work. Because of Jack's creativity, we have all of the conveniences of new construction, including light and open living spaces, large closets, and beautiful bathrooms, with the charm of a 1950s home. Even more impressive than the quality of Jack's work, though, is the quality of his character. From our first meeting with Jack, he was completely open and hones with us. Jack helped us make the best decisions to get the most out of every dollar and treated us fairly during the entire remodel process. He never took shortcuts and did not view change orders as a way to boost his profits. Jack delivered on every promise he made throughout the remodeling and consistently went above and beyond to make sure that we were happy. He was available and responsive and truly made us feel like our's was the most important job he had ever worked on, even though he was working on a much larger job at the same time. The design skills and building expertise that Jack and Envision Design offer are unsurpassable, and it was a pleasure to work with Jack because of his honesty, integrity, and fairness.
Description of Work: Envision Design designed and executed the remodel of our 1950s home. The house was completely gutted, taken down to the studs. Electrical, plumbing, framing, flooring, sheetrock, cabinets, counters, painting, exterior siding, windows, trim work, and many other details that go into remodeling a house were all handled by Jack Knowlton and his team.
