tv repair was expensive,so i decided to buy a new one

I have a LCD tv that I tried to fix myself in order to avoid having to deal with a tv repairman. After two months with the tv lying on the guest bed with it's back off and me being no closer to having it fixed than the day I laid it there, I got on Angie's list and relunctantly started looking for a tv repairman. I went with Arbat because it had the most positive reviews. I filled out their response form and got a call back within an hour. He was able to come over on the same day and within an hour and a half he had the problem diagnosed and fixed for what I thought was a reasonable cost. It made feel good that I made the right decision because I was going in a totally different direction to fix it before I contacted Arbat. If you can, ask for Mike.

It was an in-home repair that was done the afternoon of the morning I first called. When I called I was told it was probably a burned out lamp and if so the price would be about $320 for in-home repair. The repairman was personable and professional. I was so happy to have the repair done so quickly I was willing to pay the amount charged. I just don't know what a fair, reasonable charge for such service is.

The person gave me his professional advise on the "do's and don'ts" of my DIY repair. As soon as I told him that I was attempting this repair on my own, I expected him to end the conversation. Instead he gave me a primer on what I could expect, how difficult the repair was, and several options to consider.

Extremely well. I called to set the appointment and they said it probably could be done the same day late in the PM. The tech called and said he would be there in about 45 minutes, which he was.

Michael was very professional and timely in the response to our call. He explained the potential reason(s) for the TV problem and was honest in the possibility that the set may not be fixable. We decided to have him do the work anyway. He charged us for the call, part and labor, but gave us a few days to determine if his repair fixed the problem. Within a day, the problem returned. We contacted him and he agreed to reduce the charge to just the service call and minimal labor. Although we were disappointed in the final outcome, we were pleased with Michael's honesty and integrity in discussing the issues re a 9-1/2 yr. old set and his willingness to stand behind his repair.

Mike came out and took the digital board back to his workspace. He came back the next day after replacing a bunch of stuff. The picture was still bad so he tested it while connected until he found the bad section and replaced it. He is very professional and obviously knows what he is doing.

I was able to make a preliminary diagnosis using the Internet. I made a service request using Arbat's web site. They responded that my diagnosis was probably correct, quoted a price to fix the problem, and asked if I would like to schedule a repair. I responded with appropriate times for an appointment. I received no response for a day, so I had to send another e-mail. They responded to the second e-mail with a phone call and came out that day. My wife says the technician was very professional. He quickly replaced the parts, made no mess, and explained what he was doing. The bill was the same as the estimate. HDTV performance returned to normal after the repair. After one month, everything is still fine.

Mike from Arbat TV (may be the owner) was very punctual, responsive and professional. Our 52 in. TV stopped working and he came to the house to inspect it. He had to take off the back of the TV, found several fuses that needed replacing. He thought the real problem may be deeper inside the TV which required more involved analysis in his shop. He suggested replacing the fuses to see if that worked, but he was honest and said that might not be the real problem. He called 2 days later and said he thought the problem would require a more extensive replacement of the electronic circuit board. We thought the time and expense would not be worth it, so we gave him the TV to try to fix and we bought a new TV. Although he was not able to fix it, we felt he was honest, knowledgeable and professional. I would call him again if we have problems with any other TVs.

I felt really burned when at the end of the job I was stuck with a bill for $180. I was left with impression that it would be $80. I never would have hired this company had I know a service call, just coming to my house would be $80 and then an additional charge for the work. I wanted assistance in hooking up a blu-ray player to my hdtv and to have my cable working at the same time. Most of the home theater stores, in coming to someone's home, I believe really take advantage of consumers in what they charge so I thought perhaps a regular television repair service could do the job just as well and wouldn't gouge me. This company was the first on the list in Angie's List for television service. The technician did the job and some of it was tricky however I wasn't told about costs fully and I would have shopped around for a better price.

I wanted to to have cable connected to a second TV in my house. They showed up to do the job, but said that they didn't have the appropriate equipment to complete the job. They couldn't do anything. They charged me for this service call, which was over $80.00. Since it wasn't a repair, he couldn't help me out with what I needed. I ended up finding somebody else to complete this job. I think that they would have been able to help me out if I had needed a repair, but since it was just a cable service call, they couldn't.

TV picture and audio went out in the evening. I called next morning and Arbat TV came that afternoon. Repair man was very knowledgeable, cordial, efficient. I was pleased that they were able to come so quickly. Very pleased with the service, although thought the price was a little steep--but I guess house calls are generally somewhat expensive.

After checking carefully he had order a part and said he would be back in a few days. It took almost a week, but when he returned, he finished the repair. He kept at it until the picture was just right, and he even took it apart again (late in the day, too) to make it work just right.

Arbat TV told us (before they came) all the scenarios that may be wrong with the TV and how much they would cost. Ranging from the TV being to expensive to repair to replacing a single part @ about $100 (including labor). Since the TV was almost 10 years old, they gave me all the options upfront. I decided to still have them look at it. Arbat arrived within 90 minutes of my call. They showed me in detail all that had happened to the TV. It did end up being to expensive to repair. The damage was due to the power outage and subsequent low voltage. They also gave me suggestions on how to prevent such damage in the future and offered to help me carry the TV to the garage. The service call was well worth it.

It went great. Good advise. Diagnosed the problem quickly. Would definitely trust for future repairs.

Work was completed within two days. He took part on Tuesday and was back on Thursday to install. Very pleased.

I called to make an appointment for them to fix the audio on my TV. As someone else already reported, they were able to fix the problem over the phone for no charge! I thought I was going to have to buy another 27'' TV but they saved me $300. I will definitely call them if I need service in the future.

Very pleased with the help. I submitted my request in the evening and the response was early the next morning.

The technician was polite and stuck to the business at hand. He diagnosed the problem quickly and repaired it quickly. We paid $200 in labor, but it was better than paying $3,000+ on a new TV.
