Description of Work: I needed a new water heater which needed to be moved from attic to the garage (my preference) since there were new specifications on water heaters. I was given two options and that is the one I preferred. They were extremely knowledgeable and courteous. I will definitely use them in the future

Description of Work: Abacus cleared a main drain line and charged over $400 to do so. I have had this service performed on the same house for less than $200. I had a coupon for drain clearing for $150. When I attempted to use it, the technician stated that it did not include drain clearing service when the technician had to leave the ground. The technician advised that he needed to go through the roof vent, so the coupon didn't apply. In the past, the drain service has been cleared through the exterior drain line access. Because we had standing water in our bath tubs and could not flush the toilets, I felt compelled to accept the extremely high price and have the job done. I believe the technician intentionally used this scenario against me. The job took 30 minutes with a power snake. No toilet removal, no digging, no breaking of any plumbing lines. I'll never call Abacus for any service again.

Description of Work: Service providers were considerate. Was some miscommunication between contractor and subcontractor that meant job took a day longer than anticipated. I am happy with the final results

Description of Work: They replaced a water heater. It went well but there was a problem with the permit. They finished the work and I replaced all the shelving in front of the door behind which the water heater was situated. About a week later I get a phone call saying that the work needed to be inspected. I asked why they didn't tell me that before I put all the shelving back, because it takes hours to disassemble and reassemble all the shelves. |The end result was that the work was never inspected.

Description of Work: Dishwasher not draining in new house. He punched out the place in garbage so water would drain. This was not done in the original installation by someone else. He quickly determined the problem and fixed it. The charge was for the service call.

Description of Work: here was something wrong with my A/C, and my regular repairman was unavailable. Unfortunately, he indicated he would be unavailable for a short time due to personal reasons. I searched Angie's List and came across Abacus Plumbing, A/C & Electrical. The reviews on the site rate the company with an "A". Since Abacus had this rating and I had heard local radio ads for them, I contacted them. The technician was unqualified and has now cost me an extra $500. He came to the house and asked what the problem was. I told him the system wasn't working and the thermostat was flashing "searching". He said it was a bad thermostat but also went into the attic to make sure everything else was ok. He came down from the attic and said the system was fine. The technician said he could install a new thermostat for $582. I authorized the service. The technician went to his truck, got the new thermostat and came in to install it. He had to call someone else to find out which wires on the thermostat should be connected to which wires in the wall. In the meantime, I began further research on Abacus and found bad review after bad review. Comments were that the techs weren't qualified, their prices were 30+ percent higher, and they indicated all kinds of things were wrong that really didn't need to be fixed. I was beginning to worry but let the thermostat installation continue, feeling like I was paying a higher price. (I found the same thermostat online ranging in price from about $270 - $550.) The thermostat was installed but still continued to read "searching". The tech returned to the attic to reset the system. He was up there for quite some time an then came down stating the new thermostat was not compatible with my A/C system. While Abacus did not stock the thermostat I needed, he said he could get it, quoting me $1250 (or $1100 with the purchase of and Abacus annual service membership). I told him I'd think about it and might try getting my old thermostat. I then called my regular repairman and told him the diagnosis. He offered to get the new thermostat for less than 1/2 the price Abacus quoted (I did not tell him Abacus's price). He got the item and came to install it the following weekday. Unfortunately, that didn't solve the problem. He checked the system and it turns out my blower is not working. It also turns out my old thermostat is under a 10-year warranty and could have been replaced at no cost. All the Abacus technician had to do was call the company (which my regular repairman did)!
