We called them, they came out promptly, gave an estimate, began working--even late into the evening (house was vacant) . Very happy with work, and the house is sold!!
Lior got my number from Rodger and called the first day, a Sunday, and offered to come out. I was delayed in returning the call, so he was soon engaged in another job, but he came out the next day. They got to work immediately, mitigating the water damage. There was a week delay, because the new laminate took a week to ship. On 7/20, they were working on painting, laminate placement, etc. By 7/21, they were finishing up. He thought they would be done by 10 a.m., and we agreed to meet him at 10:30. This is a rental house, so we drove into Dallas from two hours away. They weren't quite finished at 10:30, but his assistant stayed with it while we waited there. By the time they finished it was almost noon. I spotted some places that still needed caulking. There was some gap under the baseboard surrounding the washer that had not been noticed. The dining room had not been caulked where the quarter-round meets the laminate, and this did not match what had been there before. I asked them to caulk this, so that it would match with the rest of the quarter-round in the house, and they did that. They also filled the gap under the baseboards around the washer with a rust-colored caulk or grout to match the tile flooring in there. Lior was polite and willing. He personally felt the caulking along the laminate detracted from the beauty, but I still felt he should have noticed this difference in final effect and said something before I brought it up. Once the caulking was all done as I'd requested, it looked very good; his assistant had done a really nice job. All the work seemed to be expertly carried out, and I saw nothing amiss when they finished. I could not see where they had replaced materials, because the work was smooth and seamless.
There had been initial confusion about the replacement laminate. It was one that had come from Home Depot two years ago. Lior went to a nearby Home Depot where he and the floor specialist looked it up and found it had been discontinued. So he told me it was not available anywhere (as she had informed him) and I would need a whole new floor. There was one he found that looked extremely close, but the size was not the same. I immediately found the one we were looking for on Home Depot's website. It was available by online shopping only, so I assume the in-store floor specialist had no interest in telling us about the online possibility. When I talked to her on the phone, she said the online sales have nothing to do with the in-store sales--and not in a friendly tone. It took me all of one afternoon to get it straightened out, about what laminate and t-molding to order, and email the information to Lior's office. The main snag had been about the mm size. What is now called 10 mm in Cashmere Cherry (Pergo) is EXACTLY the same product as the "8 mm" Cashmere Cherry I'd bought two years ago. They are now including the 2 mm attached padding, to get 10 mm--or so it was explained to me by Home Depot Online.
Then I was directed by several Home Depot phone reps to a cherry t-molding which looked like the right color match online. Online colors are often deceptive, and this was no exception; it did not match at all. Lior returned it to Home Depot for us. He spent a few hours locating the best color match for t-molding, visiting several Dallas-area stores before finding it. It does look very good. He bought two of those and replaced the ones that had been damaged. (We'd originally wanted all the t-molding in the house replaced, so the original order for it was larger. Lior discovered that what we already had there was actually very nice, and so we're leaving the undamaged t-molding as is.)
After we knew what the total would be, I requested a 10% discount for my time spent finding the right laminate planks (Cashmere Cherry by Pergo); although, my choice of t-molding had turned out to be a mismatch. Lior respectfully declined, explaining that, as a homeowner, my involvement was expected. He also said that he'd spent considerable time (without charge) picking up the shipment (which is not as it's typically done) and finding the best t-molding. He sent me the final invoice and agreed to meet in the morning for final inspection before charging our card. I was a little disappointed about this, but it seemed fair enough. I explained that I had not meant to imply he was trying to deceive me about needing a whole new floor, though he turned out to be incorrect, as I found by going to Home Depot online. It was a confusing situation, but Lior had worked very hard to get everything right.
Also, he had initially said we could pay the full amount at completion. Soon after, he requested some prepayment for materials, and we paid $500. Then he needed more to cover the laminate order, and we paid another $397.14, for a total laminate cost of $897.14. There were other materials he had to purchase, but the laminate was the main expense. Then his wife sent an invoice for the water mitigation part of it, explaining that it's normally paid in stages like that. We explained why we wanted to pay the full balance at completion, and she immediately agreed. I told her that they needed to be more clear from the outset about what they expect in payment increments. There was no argument, just some polite explanations back and forth, by email.
Overall, I think they're very honest people and that their work appears to be excellent, from what we can tell. They communicated promptly. It was not at all difficult to reach them by phone or email. They could have been more clear from the beginning about how they do things, but I did not sense any bad intentions, and they were reasonable. Lior impressed me as a shy, serious man who speaks with a foreign accent. He made every effort to speak clearly and seemed accustomed to repeating things for people. His wife does not have an accent and is very easy to understand.
I would recommend them with a few suggestions: 1) get details clear about payment increments, at the beginning; 2) check work carefully for possible missed details; 3) some minor delays might be expected at completion; 4) avoid if you have particular trouble understanding foreign accents--but this was not a big deal for us. Generally speaking, it was a pleasure doing business with them.
