"Thank you for your kind words. It was a pleasure working with your family. We wish all our clients were as as welcoming and compliant as yours. It is always an enjoyable experience for us when we can make a home improvement end with a satisfied homeowner. We look forward to working with you on your future projects."
In mid April we contacted Slansky Builders again (since we had not heard from them about completing the work we had agreed on) and received an email that said 'we will not be available to install the door for you in May or anytime in the future."
We can only assume that Slansky Builders was offended by our request for a revised invoice and a 1/2 day delay in paying. The owner, Rich Slansky, did not contract us after the work was completed to see if we were satisfied so it appears that money is more important to them than satisfied customers.
"Obviously this is not the norm, as you can tell by the other reviews from non-abusive clients. In addition, the delays were due to the blinding snow and ice we received at the time. The homeowner was rude and demanding of our workers. He cursed them and bossed them continually. It was obvious that his wife was embarrassed by his behavior and apologized for him. Since he never ordered the door so we could install it while there, we felt we should not return for more abuse. We will not subject anyone to being degraded. No money was given in advance as usual, but we do require payment upon completion, not the next day. Try that at Wal-Mart! He got what he paid for and sent me an email stating how happy he was with the work, buyers remorse, maybe. There has been no request for any other documentation. We do not mark up our materials, the homeowner pays actual retail and has the opportunity to purchase on their own, if they choose, he did not want to be bothered. We are a small family business and the "runner" is our daughter, and she only runs errands and answers the phone. It is also stated in our contracts that there will be a late fee if not paid upon completion, he forgot to mention we waived that. Our small company has the right to refuse work to anyone,as well as, anyone has the right to choose any Contractor they wish."
"Thank you [removed member name]. You and your family are an absolute joy to work with. Good luck with your new ventures in life."
"[removed member name], thank you for the kind words. We value our clients and enjoyed working with you. I appreciate your understanding of not always hiring the "lowest" contractor. Since we live where we work, we prefer to leave our clients happy and satisfied. We pride ourselves in being fully licensed by the State of Tennessee, and the county of Blount. We purchase our insurance from local companies and purchase our materials locally also. It is important to us to be part of the community and we look forward to seeing our past and future clients out and about in town. So Mr. Crannis, we look forward to completing your next home improvement!"
"Thank you for your positive feedback. You and your wife were very easy to work with and very gracious to us while in your home. We greatly appreciate your business and look forward to completing other projects with you."
project came in on the estimate provided.
"Thank you. You are one of our most valued clients and a great friend. We enjoy transforming your ideas into your home improvements."
"Thank you for your kind words Member. Yes, Rich is very honest when he provides an estimate. He will not cut corners and would rather tell a potential client the brutal truth than sugar coat the the quote just to secure a contract and come back later to say it will actually be much more involved. Because we live in the same community in which we work and may run into you at anytime, we wouldn't want to feel ashamed to face you. So therefore we find it better to quote the actual repairs needed and help with financing or let our clients save for the repairs/renovations. It was delightful to meet you and hope to be able to work with you someday soon."
The day after I submitted this review, one of the Slansky's called me. He was belligerent and confrontational. He defended all of his actions and offered no apology all the while saying that he had apologized and fixed other people's problems in the past. It seemed he wanted an apology from me. After talking again to my Mother-in-law, I changed the punctuality from c to d since the workers did not show up till 10am or later on most days.
"First of all, this review is from a NON-client. We had no contract or obligations with this person. The person with whom we had the contract for at this address, and who paid for the remodel in full, seemed to be very happy with our work. While there were some changes made during the process, the client was made aware and was charged only an additional $180 for the extra framing of the door. This was a 1000 sq' basement remodel, not just a door/window replacement. The two week time frame seems plausible for this type of renovation. The client tried to be helpful by purchasing a door returned by someone else at the home store instead of ordering the custom sized recommended. This would have been acceptable if we had been made aware of the change prior to the framing. Since it was a true error on her part we waived the normal fees associated with losing a day to changes. The original signed contract was altered by the client many times and we honored her wishes at a loss to us. The exterior finish was to be vinyl, thus framed for that material, then she changed her mind and decided to have a brick front. Brick masonry work is more intense and more costly than vinyl. We did this for her at NO profit, only our cost to change. As stated prior, this was a COMPLETE basement remodel, including electrical, HVAC, plumbing for a living space to include a kitchen, bedroom, living room and storage area. It included all trims and new drywall. There were some modifications that had to be made such as the HVAC return was a modified file cabinet, not to code. We do not offer shoddy workmanship and therefore would not leave that as is. The client was informed of changes when she was available but our contract states, and was signed with the understanding that, some hidden conditions require changes and must be addressed for safety reasons and codes. We did contact the NON-Client in an attempt to understand why he is placing this review nearly a year after the fact and why we weren't contacted prior for a possible resolution. As professionals, we have no patience for giggling adults, (per our phone conversation, we couldn't talk because of the outrageous behavior), who have nothing better to do than attempt to damage the reputation of a small business in a small town trying to provide jobs for a few people who want to give homeowners a better home to live in. As for the punctuality, we arrived daily as expected, following shopping for materials for the job-site. The area being remodeled was to be cleared of the items being stored there but were not so we had to shop daily since we had no where to store materials. The client was very pleased upon our completion and never expressed anything except a gracious appreciation. I attribute this review to a miscommunication between family members. I will be providing a copy of the signed contract and scope of work to Angie's List for review, maybe then the NON-Client will see the err of his ways. Furthermore, we complete dozens of projects yearly and have a BBB rating of A+. While you can't be a member of Angie's List as a contractor, they should verify all derogatory reviews as they do the accolades."
"Thank you! We are glad you are pleased and look forward to working on your house again in the fall. We appreciate your confidence in our company. It is a pleasure to work with you."
