sump pump: The man, who was nice, checked our sump pump and was done in less than an hour. It seemed high to me for less than an hour and he really didn't fix anything, just check it. He then started trying to sign me up for their club. I had never had experience with a company that had a club before. I have not called them for plumbing problems since. I found a great plumber after that. Estimate for tankless water heater: The man who came was nice but much like a car salesman. He answered most of my questions, looked at our situation and then wrote up an estimate. When he then proceeded to tell me they might not have to do a certain thing and if that happened he would "knock off" a certain amount of dollars. Well, the amount he was going to knock off didn't seem to correspond to the cost of doing that certain thing. In other words if he had given me an estimate for not doing it in the first place, it should of been less expensive than the credit he was going to give me. I had already gotten several estimates so I had some previous knowledge of the situation we were looking at. The salesman was not the man who would install it so it seemed he was giving himself some leeway for mistakes. I did not care for him. We never installed a tankless water heater.
Description of Work: I called them once to check a sump pump when we bought our house in the fall of 2005. I don't have an exact date. I called them in 2009 for an estimate on a tankless water heater. I do not have an exact date.

Billy was great! He arrived right on time, and took his time to assess the situation and provide me with all my options. He was prepared to discuss important factors to consider with each option, and he came well prepared with photos of other installations. The company was offering a discount for Angie's List members which he factored into the pricing as soon as I mentioned it. The installation crew showed up same day, dispatched right after I made my decision, and they finished up within the estimated time. All of the debris from the old water heater were removed and the work site was neat as a pin. Billy also carefully provided education about my new system. And I love my new tankless system! Billy also explained about the tax credit because this is a "green" system. The warranty and owner support and service is great. I definitely recommend Benjamin Franklin Plumbers!
Description of Work: This company installed a tankless water heating system for me. They also dismantled and removed the old water heater. The installation involved re-routing the exhaust system and plumbing because the tankless system was relocated to the crawl space under the house versus taking up space in my garage.

Greg Slade, our Service Technician, should be requested by name. He grew up in a plumbing family and knows his business. He was professional and listened well before recommending solutions. He was able to solve several issues that other plumbers took my money to fix but did not resolve. Not only was the work successful, Greg also took the time to explain what would be done so that we had great confidence in what would be done. This company must be good if they have someone so skilled working for them. Thanks to Benjamin Franklin Plumbing for doing a good job for us.

Technician Justin was finishing a job when I called. He was here within 30 minutes. First he looked at the problems, then estimated the cost for the complete repairs with options for using his parts or parts we had bought. Obtained my approval and signature before starting. Cost ($1028) sounded very high, but I wanted it done and done right, so agreed. I had not moved a stack of boxes which blocked his access to the rear of the outside faucet. He willingly helped me move and re-stack the boxes outside, and changed out the faucet with a new one from his truck. Total time for this repair: 1 hour, could have been 30 minutes less if boxes had been moved in advance. Upstairs he had to remove towels and paper goods from closet shelves and remove shelves to gain access to rear of faucets. He did this very willingly and carefully. He removed entire faucet assembly and replaced it with new one from his truck. The rusty, decomposed state of the old faucet and drain valve made them very difficult to remove, but the task was done with no damage to the tub or wall. When job was finished, shelves and contents were replaced. He cleaned up all water and other debris, explained charges, got paid and left. Extra work to remove boxes, cut away wooden obstacles, remove shelves, etc were not added to bill. Total time here 3 to 3.5 hours. Total cost $1,028.00. Bill does not specify cost of materials or hourly rate for labor. Each job is estimated with or without materials, homeowner's choice. Conclusion: If you want your job done professionally, expertly and right the first time, this is the place to call. Remember, you get what you pay for.
Description of Work: Replaced one (1) leaking, worn-out outside faucet with a new frost-proof faucet. Replaced all hardware in upstairs tub/shower combination: 3 piece valve/faucet, waste & overflow drain.

Very pleased with the technicians and the service. Technician was very conscientious in making sure nothing was tracked into our house that had to be cleaned up. Worked continuously until everything was completed. Extremely pleased with the overall experience and service.
Description of Work: They came out on a Saturday when we discovered our water heater had sprung a leak. Decided to go with a tankless system with a whole house carbon filter, but it could not be installed that day. The technician went ahead and installed a new water heater so we would have hot water over the weekend and we did not have to stay in hotel until the new system could be installed. Temperatures over night were below freezing. They did not charge me for the use of the temporary water heater even though it was out-of-the box new. Came out the following Monday and ran the needed gas line, water line and had everything installed in 6 hours.

All work was done quickly, professionally and with great skill.Their plumber arrived within one hour of my call (at 8:00 AM) and had the pipe repaired in another hour. He convinced my that a tankless water heater might avoid future problems and arranged for a sales representative to come out the next day. He also helped me find a restoration company to repair the water damage from the pipe. Their sales technician was very knowledgeable and sold me a tankless system which was installed the next day. As usual with this excellent company, the installation was professionally done and the work was completed on time. All emplyees of this company are extremely professional and skilled

When Gary went over my options he informed me how a tankless saves money on your gas bill. I also like that is a green unit and the tax credit with my unit is a bonus. Ben Franklin Plumbing installed my unit in 1 day the same day I authorized the work to be done, they had their install crew on site almost immediately. Everything was done professionally, timely and I paid exactly what was quoted no hidden charges. I
Description of Work: My water heater was out and I called Benjamin Franklin Plumbing to come out and look. My water was 12 yrs old so I was not surprised I needed a new one. Gary went over my options between a regular 50 gal water heater and a tankless water heater. I chose the tankless water heater..

They do all my stuff. The toilet was old and was leaking around the floor. They also put new seals. They are not the cheapest, but they tell you up front what it is going to cost. I choose to use them because they come when they say they will. They are professional and they don't mess up your floors and they wear booties in the house. They asked me if I had any coupons and they let me use those. Everything works good and I don't have any complaints. I've had good luck with them every time I've used them. They have a service club that you can join and I joined it. The technician was dressed neatly and was very polite. He was very neat and cleaned up after himself.

My water heaters were operating 'on borrowed time' - we knew it. The timing (one day after the TN floods - and 7:30 pm) was awful! Our crawl space was still drying out from 15" of rain that weekend and I came home to find one of the water heaters spewing water. Turned off the water to the house and I called the plumbing company - requested the come in the morning. The Benjamin Franklin Plumbing rep was at my home early the next morning. We discussed options and we decided on a tankless - which included 3 years of maintenance. The installation team showed up the following day! They ran into a few glitches, as they found some 'creative' plumbing on our 1979 house, but proceeded with professionalism and good humor. They even called in another technician who had just finished another job, to help them troubleshoot a problem. They got the system up and running that evening, however, anothertechnician followed up the next day to troubleshoot low pressure issues. He worked diligently, answering any questions and willing to keep working until I was happy. He fixed the problem. Within the next week, I had two more follow-up calls relating to the installation. 1) My kitchen hot water pipes started banging - seemed to be an 'air in the system' issue. 2) Then I thought I smelled gas near a pipe junction... the technician was at my home in no time and discovered a miniscule leak... he happily took care of it! And brought to my attention an unrelated plumbing issue that would need taking care of in the future. It was in the crawl space. Typically, I would probably discover such issuew when it is "too late!" What home owner doesn't appreciate that extra effort??? Overall, this company operated with customer service in mind. No question. I would gladly spend more for a company that employs well-trained/knowledgeable technicians, that do good work, who KNOW CODES, and treat the customer with honesty and respect. I will call them for future plumbing needs.
Description of Work: Two fourty-gallon electric water heaters removed from a crawl space and install a gas tankless water heater in place of them. This was an involved task due to the way the 2 heater system was set up. The technicians were very knowledgable, personable, professional.

See abiove. I have a square cut out of my kitchen ceiling, a shower that will still leak and I am out $624,00. $610.00 for the repair and $14,00 for the monthly club membership for priority service. I do not want the service they provide given this quality. They have already debited my account but no two can agree on when I will get my money back. I am extremely unhappy with this company.
Description of Work: The plumber said that he replaced our shower drain and recaulked the shower. We couldn;t go into the shower for 12 hours due to the wet caulk. When we inspected his work- he hadn't even unscrewed the old shower drain cover. In short he did absolutely nothing. We called a supervisor to inspect his work and the supervisor agreed. He agreed to refund the entire amount on Monday of this week. This is Thursday and I was just told that a check would be going out tomorrow. Do not use this company. They don't do the work and you can't get two people in the company to tell you the same story. Needless to say, we are very disappointed.

Heard water leaking in the crawlspace. Ben Franklin came out the same day I called. They said 2 pipes were disconnected from the main sewer pipe. Quoted $600 to fix. Not to replace, only to repair/reconnect. Expensive but it was urgent and I couldn't get anyone else out same day. Day after they reconnected pipes, we had drainage problems in our toilets, showers, sinks that had not previously been occurring. Called BFranklin back. They came out and said there 'might' be a clog in the main sewage line. Said they couldn't find my clean out in the backyard so it would cost $279 to take off the toilet, and then $359 to put a camera down to see what the problem was. So that was $600 just to look - not including any work at all. I kindly declined. I went out and found the clean out they couldn't find in 30 sec. Saved myself $279 right there. Next day had a guy come out w/ a roto rooter and unclog my main sewer for $100. BF seemed to be all about making $ w/o the customer benefit in mind.
Description of Work: They repaired 2 pipes that were leaking in the crawlspace beneath the house with 2 year warranty. - $600 Next day after new problems, they estimated the cost to remove toilet and put camera down to diagnose clog.- $600. I declined that service. I had not previously had the problem, but according to the plumbers it was completely different than the problem that I paid $600 the previous day to have fixed.

The job went very well. We had several plumbing projects that we had questions about and Jerry was very polite about explaining things thoroughly and didn't seem pushy. We thought we had a clogged sink, which Jerry offered to take care of for $245, but after he looked at the plumbing underneath the sink, he realized that the garbage disposal was just plumbed incorrectly. Some plumbers would have just kept quite about that and made a little more money, but he didn't. Jerry is very knowledgeable and trustworthy. He did a great job and cleaned up after he finished. We will definitely call him back when we remodel our kitchen.
Description of Work: Jerry moved/added plumbing in our master bath. It was originally plumbed for one sink and had been poorly plumbed for two sinks by the previous homeowners, which took up the entire inside of a 60" vanity. Jerry cut out part of the drywall and re-ran the plumbing inside the wall to accommodate two sinks.

I noticed a leak so I called them to come out and take a look. They decided I needed twenty feet of pipes replaced. It was an all day job mainly because my house is old and it took them a while to get to it. They did great work but were way to expensive. I paid about fifteen hundred dollars and I am not sure where all that went. They also tried to sell me a lot of things I didn't need.
Description of Work: Benjamin Franklin Plumbing replaced twenty feet of pipes underneath my 2,300 square foot home.
