It was a nightmare.  Although I've seen Dr. Darrah 2-3 times when he examined my teeth after a cleaning, and he filled a tooth once or twice, I have always been put off by his behavior -- totally cut and dry.  This man has no compassion, concern, personality, or bedside manner whatsoever.  These traits are an absolute requirement of being a good dentist.  Not to be funny or mean, but I believe Dr. Darrah suffers from "Little Man Syndrome" and has a "Greater Than Thou Attitude".  He is very arrogant, self-rightous, and unapologetic.  After waiting 10 minutes for Dr. Darrah to come into the cubicle, he finally came in and checked my chipped teeth and said that he would have to fill in the spots instead of just sawing them down. His assistant put some numbing solution on a Q-tip and put it in my mouth.  After ~ 5 minutes, Dr Darrah came back and proceeded to inject numbing medication into my lower front gums.  I was obviously not numb enough because it caused severe pain and I flinched and jerked.  Dr. Darrah's response to my discomfort was to comment "Do NOT flinch while I'm injecting you".  He didn't ask if I was in pain, or even show any concern at all.  Then he injected me again on the other side of my bottom gum.  Same thing happened again, extreme pain and of course I flinched again.  Same response from this Dentist, but even more stern and agitated with me.  This seemed to take forever and when he was finally done, I turned around and told him that he sucked at this procedure.  He was so stunned that anyone would question his capability that he couldn't respond.  So I told him that I didn't know if he didn't numb me enough before he injected me or what, but that it was extremely painful and uncalled for.  He responds defiantly by telling me that you're always going to feel a little pinch when he injects the needle.  I told him very firmly that was no little pinch.  To which he answered, "If you don't trust me to perform this procedure, maybe I shouldn't work on your teeth today".  It only took me 2 seconds to tell him that NO, I don't want you to work on my teeth today or ever again.  There was never an apology from him for the pain and fear he caused me, or anything else.  I left his office and was consoled by the dental assistant.  I stayed in the waiting room until it was time to have my teeth cleaned.  I made Staff aware of the incident and made an appt to come back next week to finish my appt with Dr. Lorenzi.  But after consideration overnight, I made the decision to end all contact with Carolina Smiles (former Southern Dental), and cancelled all appointments.  I was told by the Staff that Dr. Darrah wouldn't be working there much longer, but it didn't appease me.  My recommendation -- Do not schedule any appointments with Dr. Darrah.  He is a total a*s.

The hygienist was very rough and sloppy.  Water and teeth cleaner
product in my hair. Was relieved to get out of there.  Dentist was
pretty good but said he was going to do all of the work I needed on the
bottom right side so I only had to be numbed once.  He finished up and
said for me to make another appointment to finish up the work and said
he ran out of time.  I looked at the clock at saw it was noon.  I went
out to pay and saw the dentist leave like he was running out to get
lunch?  I was very frustrated I had to make another appointment when he
promised that I wouldn't.  Then I asked the woman to see how much dental
insurance I had left for another appointment.  She said she would check
and call to let me know and schedule my next appointment then.  I never
received a call back.  I was very excited to find a new dentist and after two visits, felt I needed to continue my search.

The dentist took the time to explain everything that needed to be done and what to expect.  The deep cleaning was necessary due to gum infection.  I was expecting a lot of pain but it turned out to involve very little pain and everything was done flawlessly.
I have some more work on my teeth to get done and I am trusting them to get it all done.   I would recommend this dental practice to anyone.

Dr Lorenzi is great.  He works fast and checks to make sure that you are okay during the entire time.

I am happy with them.  It has always been great.  I see the hygienist and the dentist comes in when the tooth cleaning is finished.  I am been fortunate since I have not had any major work done in while.  The hygienist is great and that is the reason I go.  I went there the first time because of the location and they were on my plan but I kept going back because of the hygienist.  They are professional and you are in and out, getting them cleaned, and they do a good job.  I would not have stayed with them if they were not good.  I am too old and cranky to put up with a lot of nonsense especially with the million of choices that we have these days.  Right now I would not use anything else.

If there was an A+ rating for communication, they would have received it.  From the receptionist to the dental assistant to the Dentist himself, everyone was so knowledgeable and informative, it was an amazing experience, for both of us, and we each had a different dental assistant. We learned things we hadn't been informed of in over 50 years.  We absolutely LOVE these people, the entire staff.  They are knowledgeable, professional and very caring.  We have definitely found our dentist here in South Carolina.

They've got good ratings on Angie's List, which is why I used them. The experience was very good. I like them. I'm going to take my children over there. Their staff is very friendly and accommodating. They're real helpful. I like them.

We have been going there for six years and more.  It worked very well for us. The experience had been good with the staff and the nurse and everybody.

The cleaning and exam went well. Everyone there is very friendly and professional. They try to make the procedure as painless as possible. After the cleaning and exam they recommended another 3 month exam and cleaning. I think if you eat anything at all, there will be some tarter build up on your teeth, therefore 3 month exams may be a bit excessive. No co-pay this time around.

Appointment times are met. Usually you are in and out without a lot of lost time.

I was most impressed with the ability of the billing and insurance office staff to teach me the nuances of my insurance plan and how to upgrade the plan by contacting our human resource department as soon as possible.  BCBS misled us to believe that they pay for 100% of the cleanings when in reality they only pay a small percentage of each service which in the end leaves a substantial balance for us.  The office staff provided discounts on several of the services per child, then provided a discount for paying in full, then honored their Angie Member exclusive coupon of $50 off of the service per patient!  The total savings amounted to $215+.  I had even paid in full and remembered as I was walking to the car that we were Angie Members and their coupon was actually the reason why I chose them over the others.  I came back in after I had already picked their brains over the excruciating amount  due after accounting for my lousy insurances coverage of the services rendered for my children's cleanings and they swiftly honored their coupon and refunded me $150!  They didn't bat an eye or give me hard time for the noise my younger children ages 2,4, 6, and 8 added to the usual quiet environment during the time I spent with them trying to make sense of the charges which seem reasonable for the services rendered.  I was just taken back by my insurance companies false claims to paying 100% of cleanings, which in fact is a lie.  I greatly appreciate the expertise in the matter of my particular insurance coverage and the charges of their services, which they actually reduced in order to accommodate me as a paying customer.

The desk staff was friendly and helpful. The dentists and hygienists have the latest technology and equipment to work with and you get to see your x-rays and pictures of all teeth immediately on a computer/tv screen. The entire experience was a pleasure and I was treated respectfully. I don't have any dental problems, so I only experienced the evaluation and cleaning, so i cannot speak to how procedures are handled. I am very happy with Southern Dental and look forward to going back for my 6 month visits.

They have a periodontist, as well as an orthodontist, and a general dentist in the same office.  It's extremely convenient.  My cousin had a very good experience with them.  The only question I have is with their billing practices. I know my cousin plans to see them again.

Office staff was friendly and helpful. I completed the necessary paperwork and waited a very short time before Michelle called me from the waiting room. She was very professional and cheerful. After taking x-rays she checked my teeth and made notes. Dr. Smith came in and introduced himself. He studied my x-rays and the notes Michelle had made and then checked my teeth. He was thorough and informed me of the work needed. I set an appointment to come back for a cleaning and the recommended work.
