Multi State was supposed to: Remove damaged areas affected...main downstairs bathroom-gut down to studs/replace den outside wall dry wall and ceiling dry wall/living room ceiling dry wall/remove slate floors from living room into kitchen/re-sand-stain kitchen ceiling and kitchens cabinets. The project was to be completed within 8 weeks. The project stretched out from March 2001 thru July 2001 and we weren't even half way done with the renovations.... With all that said, right after we signed the contract, things started to go wrong. I found myself being the PM in contacting the workers...setting up the times etc for them to come to our house for work...fortunately I or my were able to be here every moment a worker was going to be in our home. After contacting the GC and speaking with the PM multi times about the lack of communication with the sub-contractors...only a few worked for the GC directly...we were forced to do one project at a time (rooms to be reno'd). The downstairs bathroom was the most challenging as it was brought down to the studs. Not knowing at the time...which I recommend to everyone having this type of work done...get the process in writing and up front so as not to get gouged...for the price of labor...parts etc. Focusing on the downstairs bathroom allowed us to contain the circus which our project had become....after getting the options/features/tile picked out for the bathroom we had Multi State install the green board etc and piping for the shower/sink etc...it was weeks to just get this completed via the sub-contractors etc.....the tile guy came into play. The tile guy was a sub-contractor who said he "specialized" in tiling and that there wasn't a thing he couldn't do after 30yrs experience....we had two major issues right off bat with the work performed by this "experienced" tile guy...The floor was looked like waves at the beach and the feature tiles...which were discontinued-tile guy was aware we couldn't get any more...were "crooked and dropping"...after our complaint he tried a second time by putting down floor lever to remove the tilt in the 12/12 tiles...needless to say...he made the batch of lever wrong and it seeped thru the crack in the floor and went onto the bsmt floor below and also didn't even out the floor....needless to say after multi attempts and failures we contacted the owner of Multi State William R. D'Amico and asked him to come to our home to discuss the issues we were having and the lack of answers by his PM and accountant about money spent and what was left etc.....He did come to our home on a Thursday....which we had received the filing of compensation to our insurance co. which we asked for because we weren't getting any answers from Multi State as to what was spent etc....this was eye opening.....some compensation was asked for which services were not provided....among other discrepancies....and we asked William R. D'Amico about these and he was going to adjust the amount and that he would personally take over our restoration. The project was to be completed within 8 wks. The project stretched out from March 2001 thru July 2001 and we weren't even half way done with the renovations. Funny thing....we didn't hear from him the next day as per our discussion... or the following Monday....which workers showed in the am to continue their destruction of our home....We sent a letter to William R D'Amico and filed a complaint with the State of RI Contracting Board. We are in litigation with Multi State because we fired them and they didn't complete the job. Crazy thing....they filed the suit not for non-payment but for breach of contract for not getting to complete the work and getting all the money. There are many-many other things that went wrong with this co. but this should suffice for anyone who is deciding to ask for their service in the future. We contracted with another contractor to complete the work and we couldn?t have been happier. Carlson Construction, Cranston RI.
