His communication was excellent - quickly responding to any questions.
When Tim and his crew showed up to do the job, all power went off in the condo (through no fault of theirs). They rolled with the punches, running extension cords out to the hallway and adjacent units until the power was restored.
They showed up on time every day and the job was completed on schedule. The quality of the work on this large job was excellent - some areas of the condo had not been touched for thirty years. They did great work with attention to every detail.
One room had been wallpapered and we removed the wallpaper ourselves. They washed, spackled (lots of spackle) and sealed the room before priming and painting it. They also caulked the trim which had pulled from the walls. The room looked perfect and there was no sign of the added destruction we did with the paper removal.
The second room was a dining room that was painted deep red. We wanted it painted a light blue. There were accents that were already in place which we wanted to be left the way they were. The had to paint around columns and other parts. When they were finished, the the blue was vibrant and the lines were perfect.
The final room was the bathroom where the drywall tape had started to pull away. They fixed it and need to match the existing paint. Everything matched perfectly, and you could't tell any work ever needed to be done.
When the work was done, the paint had been labeled and left so we could use it if we needed it in the future. At first I though the price was a little high, but when we met at the end (two days later) he let us know all the extra work he did, I thought it was a steal. Even though extra work was done so the final product was perfect, he didn't charge us extra over the estimate.
Tim was a pleasure to work with. His estimate was accurate and he really knew his stuff. I highly recommend Prep Prime and Paint if you want something done the right way, the first time.
I am an artist and very fussy about craftsmanship. Tim really knows his craft and does not need to be prompted to try for perfection. If you want a slapdash job you can surely find a cheaper painter. But we are delighted with what he did for us. Our 1940's house looks much better for his work. Everyone was polite, prompt, neat and a pleasure to work with. We will hire Prep, Primd and Paint again.
On each occasion they they arrived on time, did the work professionally, finished on time and cleaned up after themselves each day.
I would hire him again.
[1] They used my new stainless steel kitchen sink and my new granite countertops to clean their brushes. Plus they left paint on my granite countertop and in the sink. I then told them to stop and use the utility tub in the basement.
[2] After they were told to use the utility tub in the basement, they used a sink in a newly installed bathroom. Paint stains were left in the sink. After I complained a second time they used the utility tub in the basement.
[3] They left paint stains on my kitchen cabinets.
[4] They left the place a mess. Paint on the floor of the Family Room, dust all over the house, dirt marks on the rugs.
[5] When Tim Chapman [the owner] was leaving he told me he couldn't cover a stain, despite painting the trim 3x. SO HE LEFT ME WITH PAINT SO I COULD FINISH !!!
[6] When I asked why they didn't caulk certain areas Tim said it wasn't included. But "Prep" is part of their name. They filled some nail holes, but left others.
[7] When Tim gave me the final bill it was over $200 higher than we had agreed. When I questioned the raise in cost, he smiled and said "That is why they call it an estimate". When I further complained, he became angry and stormed out of my house.
[8] Despite raising the costs of materials, I wasn't given any receipts.
"Unfortunately, the above review is either completely false or extremely exaggerated. Firstly, we never used his kitchen sink or bathroom sink to clean out our paint brushes. We did use his bathroom sink to clean out our spackle knives a few times, but spackle washes away with water and we always ensure that sinks are clean every day before leaving a job site. Secondly, the paint that was left on the kitchen cabinets was green, we painted the kitchen yellow. We were not contracted to paint the kitchen cabinets, so we cannot be blamed for another painter’s poor work. Thirdly, and most importantly, we did not leave his house a mess. The CORNERSTONE of my business is the assurance that your house will be cleaned every day before we leave, regardless of whether it’s a one day job or a one week job. Every day we make sure that our work areas have been thoroughly wiped down and vacuumed. His house was a mess before we started the project and I will not be blamed for that. The bill was actually $300 higher than we had initially agreed upon because he added work to the estimated project. Dental crown molding was added to a 25’ X 15’ room which was caulked, primed, and painted twice. Also, a third coat was needed in the living room and kitchen due to the yellow paint the customer chose. When giving the estimate, the customer said he was going with a neutral color for these areas, and yellow is a tough color to cover even slightly dark colored rooms, so I charged him accordingly. I gave him many price breaks for this project, from the initial estimate to the additional charges because he was a past customer of mine and I knew he was on a tight budget. We painted 6 rooms top to bottom for under $2,000. I was definitely taken advantage of from start to finish from this customer. Lastly, we provided many services to this particular customer for free because he is trying to sell his house and I wanted it to show as positively as possible. We painted his stairs, railings, and a few baseboard heaters in the entryway for free because I wanted a prospective buyer to have the best first impression of his home as they walked in the door. After providing about 3 hours of painting for free, this customer complained that what we had painted for free had not been caulked. This customer did nothing but compliment us for the first 2.5 days of the project, going as far as making us lunch one day as a thank you. As soon as I presented him with the bill his tune changed and he became very combative and unreasonable. Before leaving he told me that this was “an A job, just not an A plus job,” but yet he gave my company a D. I want anyone reading this review to know that we take pride in every job we do, no matter how small and customer satisfaction is paramount. That is why I do what I do, because I love doing good work for good people."
Very professional and efficient work ethic. The result was outstanding.
I wouldn't even think of calling another painter.
