The work that he did the first day was worth every penny, he did a great job. After that he drew up a contract for repeat business/work. The contract was for $9,000.00 plus supplies. After the contract was signed, it was almost impossible to get them to come out. We did have a major storm and figured he was handling some tree work but this went on and on. It was ridiculous. He will say one thing and then weather it was 5 minutes later or days later, he would deny he even said it. He changed the contract terms as we went, telling me that things that I decided not to do and was never done was included in the final work/price. He said that I owed him $2500.00 on top of everything, even though I didn't do everything that he had listed down. He came back and told me that they don't work for free. The walk way he did in the front of my house looks bad. He did a lot of stuff in a hurry and wasn't done right. He would tell me that there were issues at the bank and that he had bills to pay, etc. On the final day, I wrote his check and his worker came back saying that they got to the bank too late and that they couldn't accept the $5500 check in one payment. I had to write 3 different checks to make sure that his workers got paid and had to rip up the ones that I had already written. I had to write another check for his foreman who had to take it to his bank in order for it to get deposited. They took a portion of my fence out to get the tractor in and out, leaving ruts in my yard that he didn't fill in, and put it back with bungee cords. When I said something to him, he said that he would fix it. When I asked him about the ruts, he told me that there was grass seed down. There was a rain barrel that never got installed either. The workers were good, I even bought water and snacks for them. He had his 12 year old son there and was working him to death in 97 degree heat. The owner on the other hand, is a ripoff.
Description of Work: Install walkway in the front of my house, take down retention wall in the back, level out a hill and plant some plants I already had, and work on some shrubs in the front.

Complete disaster. We signed a contract on November 2, 2007. By the end of December, 2007, Mr. Coppola completed a portion of the demolition, poured one footer, applied some of the exterior insulation board, he then abandoned us and the project. We made repeated phone calls to get him to restart the work, once or twice received return calls with promises to start on a day certain, but he did not reappear. Finally on March 29, 2008, we sent him a termination letter via Certified Mail, Receipt Requested to the record address, and it was returned undelivered. We resent the termination letter again via Certified Mail, Receipt Requested to another of his addresses that he gave us (P. O. Box 368, Ardmore, PA 19003), and again it was returned undelivered. We quickly located and hired other contractors, and the work has since proceeded very well, and is now nearly complete. The work of the contractor started with demolition of much of Mr. Coppola's work which was poorly done and unacceptable in many respects. Immediately upon sending the termination letter the first time, we called his business numbers and his cell phone number to tell him of the action we were taking, and instructed him to immediately remove his ladders and miscellaneous other tools and equipment from our property. He had left all of this equipment at our residence for all of the months for which he was a no-show, from the end of December 2007 to the end of March 2008. He never showed up to reclaim his ladders and equipment, and we have since learned that he had actually borrowed one of the ladders from a mutual acquaintance. To this moment of filing this report, we have had not one word from Mr. Coppola. He was disrespectful to my wife (called her "hon"), lied to us, performed sub-standard and incompetent work, and owes us money. He made promises he couldn't possibly keep, and was way in over his head. Beware of this guy.
Description of Work: Improvements to our historical home, including applying a stone veneer to a portion of the house and related carpentry, and other subcontracted services including roofing, insulation, and tree removal.
