I was SO impressed with Rich, installer Randy, and the company in general. For competitive pricing, outstanding quality of work, promptness, professionalism, friendliness, and accommodation, I don't believe I could have found a better company to do our floors. The way the fairly-complex carpet pattern in the 3 bedrooms was matched to the hallway carpet was awesome! Plus, I would defy anyone to locate the seams. The work they did in our great room was equally impressive. I would HIGHLY recommend Floors4u2--especially for those living in southern York County or northern Baltimore County. Only wish all businesses were as outstanding as this one.
Description of Work: Replaced old wall-to-wall carpeting and padding in 3 bedrooms, a hallway, and a great room with brand new carpeting and padding. Disposed of all old padding and carpeting. Made two custom, bound rugs to match the new carpeting (for use near outside doors, where an often muddy dog goes in and out).

On day of completion, he didn?t give me a paid receipt, so I called him for one. Because he erred in not ordering enough padding & carpet, we offered to pay for the add?l carpet, he said he?d absorb the padding and he offered to install it free of charge. He seemed very grateful that we offered to pay for the carpeting considering it was his error. So, I wanted a paid receipt showing documentation of all the transactions for my records. But he totally disappeared. I emailed his wife/owner and she sent a paid receipt. Noticed she charged for labor that her husband promised would be free. I asked for a paid itemized statement breaking everything down and a copy of the warranty. She sent an itemized statement, however it was not right. I had to make several more requests for the proper itemization. I asked about the additional charge for labor which her husband said we wouldn?t have to pay, and her response was that they had already given us a break with the original price quoted, which was prior to her husband?s mistakes. As to the warranty, she told me to go online and get it myself. When putting the house together, we noticed gouges in the newly installed baseboard in every room from the kicker. The door frames were also scratched. While my hubby was putting the dining room/music room back together he noticed the carpet didn?t seem to be the same grade that we ordered. The carpet was also coming up at the transition strip between the M.B. & bathroom. I emailed her and scheduled a day and time for them to come to resolve the problem with the transition strip. This would be funny, if it wasn?t so sad. We weren?t going to be home in the morning so scheduled it for 3:30p.m. When they arrived, her worker slipped around the back of the house and put another statement and a note in the door stating, ?we were here to take care of the problem.? But we were home and watched them pull up in the driveway expecting them to come to the front door. When he went to get back in the van to leave, hubby went out and intercepted him. They came in and fixed the carpet. We showed her and her installer the damage to the baseboard and they blamed it on her husband, then told me how to repair the damage they caused. Said we should have waited until after the carpet was down before installing the baseboard. We were told otherwise by her husband. They knew it took us 3 months to cut, stain, poly and install the trim. The very reason they had to wait to install the carpeting. We told them several times, when they called to install the carpet, that when we had finished with the woodwork, we?d contact them. I then confronted her with the fact the carpet wasn?t what we ordered. She blew me off and walked out the door Emailed her on many occasions and wrote to her twice, (certified mail, which she refused to sign for & regular mail) and she claimed Shaw sent the wrong carpet. Hard to believe because that would mean Shaw sent the wrong stuff twice. I contacted Shaw and have written documentation she ordered the cheaper grade, not what we ordered and paid for. This was verified by the Product # she gave me and I compared it to the number Shaw provided showing what she ordered. At the same time, I was advised by Shaw that she had never filed the warranty information. They had no documentation at all. Also told her that when they moved the furniture, the workers slid the mattresses and box springs across the sub-floor and ripped holes in the allergy covers. Her husband was supposed to give us credit for it but didn?t. She did send a check but until all issues were resolved I wouldn?t cash it. In one letter to her, I told her I wanted to hire someone to come in to repair the wood or she could reimburse me for our time and labor for $500.00. She continually ignored my requests, so I reported her to the BBB 6/16/2011 and I filed a civil complaint with the District Justice on 7/11/2011. Tried to deal with her for almost 3 months. She did not show up for either hearing with the District Justice and got an attorney. From the time of her letter to us and to date, all she has offered to do was replace the carpeting. Nothing said about a refund for labor, nor would they repair or pay someone to come in here to fix the damaged woodwork. I wrote and told her that if I allowed them to come back to install the original carpet, I wanted a written and signed guarantee from her saying they would fix or have fixed any damage they caused. I also wanted written proof from Shaw guaranteeing they had sent the correct carpeting for the second installation. No response. Also told her she?d have to hire someone to come in to dismantle the organ and relocate it, and the piano, as we weren?t able to do it again as hubby?s MS had progressed and he can?t do that stuff anymore. She wrote to the BBB telling them we relocated the piano and organ the first time and we could do it again. Also in her letter to them, she claimed I spent hours on my hands and knees looking for ?minimal? smudges in the wood. A physical impossibility because of a bad back, and a bad knee which would eventually be replaced. In a later letter to the BBB, she told them she was on her hands and knees and couldn?t find anything. She didn?t even look at it. Scratches and gouges in the wood aren?t smudges. We have tried non-stop to resolve the problems. Over 17 months. A letter was again sent to her in July, 2012 suggesting we resolve the case. Again, No Response. The carpeting is now coming up where they created seams. Glued improperly? They tell you to work with local merchants. There is no guarantee they?re anymore honest or reliable then the big box stores. We feel we are victims of a scam. It happens all the time. If you?re in PA, make sure they?re PA HIC and if not, don?t deal with them. If they claim to be members of the CFI or Certified Flooring Installers, contact CFI to make sure it?s true. When purchasing your carpeting, check with the manufacturer to make sure the warranty will cover installation if they use a kicker as opposed to a power stretcher. In most cases, they need both, but a kicker alone isn?t recommended. There?s the possibility a kicker installation will null and void your warranty with different manufacturers. *We recently discovered that it?s against the law in PA. to collect sales tax on the purchase and installation of carpeting. http://www.pacode.com/secure/data.061.chapter58/s58.13.html We were charged $148.09 in sales tax. We are currently working with the Department of Revenue to get that back from her. All we can hope is that other?s will read this review. We want to prevent this from happening again to anyone else. UPDATE We had new carpeting installed by Weckers out of York October, 2012. When they ripped up the old carpet, they discovered in one of the bedrooms that they pieced together 10 pieces of used padding. I have pictures of it. Prior to that, we ripped up the carpeting in the hallway and discovered they put down used padding there too. As Wecker's went through the house ripping out the old stuff and prepping to install the new carpeting, they discovered Riley used tack strips for concrete floors and our floors are plywood. Tom, our new installer had to go through the whole house and reinforce all the tack strips to make sure the carpeting didn't come up when they used the power stretcher to install the new carpeting. You don't use concrete tack strips on plywood floors. I can safely say the tack strips came from previous commercial jobs Riley worked on as he offered to sell us "left over" blue carpeting from one of his commercial jobs in MD. We were charged for tack strips and new padding and he installed USED padding or strips that were previously paid for by someone else. I have written documentation from the installer and Wecker's about their findings.
Description of Work: Bob Riley, husband of Shirley Whitmore, owner of Floors 4 U 2, Inc. came to the house and measured the floors to be carpeted at least 3 times several months prior to installation. On one occasion, he brought along another installer. We also gave him a “to scale” diagram of the house and showed which floors were to be carpeted. Stressing the rooms with new baseboard trim got carpeting. Arrived 4/18/2011, ate breakfast, nailed down new tack strips, installed padding, then installed the carpeting in the 3 bedrooms and living room only. Riley came up to us apologizing saying he didn’t order enough carpet to do the Dining Rm./Music Rm. He called his wife and ordered more carpet. I asked when he was going to do the hallway and he said it wasn’t supposed to be done. His co-worker reminded him that we told them we wanted the hall done. All I did was point to the newly installed woodwork. He again called Whitmore telling her to order 4’ more for the hall. Even though he was here many times measuring and having the diagram, he still neglected to get it right. When he measured he also forgot to order enough padding to do the hallway and dining room/music room. The padding for these remaining rooms was brought in from what we thought to be another job as they were in pieces and not in the original wrapper. Returned 5 days later to complete the job. Left without finishing the edges of carpet at the living room, hallway, kitchen foyer and bedroom hallway foyer, leaving ragged edges, whereas hubby had to nail down old strips of wood trim to keep it from fraying. He told me because the belt on his vacuum cleaner had broken, I’d have to do the clean up.
