I hired Matt based on recommendation from a friend. He does great carpentry work but bathroom remodeling is another story. He did not communicate or plan this project well. He also never gave me a final work order/receipt. I probably should have held the final payment until he gave me this so I accept this was my fault for being too trusting. When the job was finished: - Tiles uneven, many stick out more than others. - This is an even greater issue around the faucet because it doesn't lay flat up against the tile. - I purchased expensive tile for the corners, the unevenness makes it just look sloppy. - Shower door was uneven at the bottom and the side. - When the door closed there was a big enough gap at the top for me to slide my hand through. - Matt said this is because my house is crooked. (Just to point out - I wasn't hiding the fact that my house is crooked. It's a 100 year old house on a hill. Anyone walking into the house notices this so I would expect a professional contractor to provide suggestions on how to make the proper adjustments especially if he is the one who pushed for shower doors and he had the chance since the wall was stripped down to the studs and bathtub removed.) - Matt finally agreed to fix the shower door by bringing in a company he works with who does custom glass and tried to make me feel guilty about this expense coming out of his pocket. (If he would've planned the job correctly, it could have come out of my pocket.) It's still not perfect, water still splashes out from under the bottom of the door so we always have to lay a towel down, but it's better than it was originally. - He did not use the correct grout-caulk between where the tub meets the tiles. The grout he used started cracking within a few months after he completed the job. Now, about 1.5 years later, we are having the floor remodeled and found tiles alongside the tub are popping off and the metal corner bead is all rusted because water has been leaking behind the tiles through the cracks. My only positive from this experience was that he recommended a great tile store - Renaissance Tile & Marble in Willow Grove, PA.
Description of Work: I hired him to re-tile my bathtub area which involved gutting the shower area, installing new cement board, installing new support under the bathtub and install a Basco shower door which he highly recommended.

Overall they did a nice job. They had no jobs lined up at the time, so it was done FAST. Price was high. Matt is a VERY HIGH PRESSURE SELL. Good job on dry wall. Great job redoing the cement in laundry room. Tarkett floor turned out far below our satisfaction. It squeaks and crackles excessively. Job involved a lot of re-routing of plumbing and this turned out great. There was a major re-doing of a beam (to allow head room). We are noticing lots of cracks now upstairs and hope it is not due to the house shifting. If I had to do this over, I would not do that. Very nice job with redoing stairwell access. A major problem is they built the powder room out too far from the rear door, it restricts access; moreover, the door catch is hitting the drywall and it has created a hole in the wall. He came back to address the issue with but it was not resolved. We have not heard from him since and are not happy with this at all. Insufficient outlets int he office area and no dimmers (we discussed this but did not specify in the contract). The job did not include painting. After the job was done they gave us an unreasonable estimate to do the painting. Basically, we think they did not want to do it! We feel we were gouged on "after" add ins. For example, they charged us $800+ to put in a slop sink. Materials were maybe $250 (up pump, plastic sink, cheap faucet, pex) and it involved hooking up a plastic drain and water supply - maybe a 1 hour job for a pro. Again, overall, they did nice work and it was done fast. Be sure you specify EVERYTHING in the contract. I do not think I would use them again.
Description of Work: Convert unfinished basement to finished basement along with powder room.

We have had extensive experience with contractors. Matt is the best. Matt has done extensive remodeling for our home. He communicates well and, compared to most contractors, hits his deadline dates. Some of his work is now four to five years old at this point and there have been no problems with the quality of his work.
Description of Work: Matt has remodeled most of the rooms in our house including the kitchen, library, living room, family room, play room and kids bed rooms. The family room remodeling included dealing with a cathedral ceiling. He has also done outside work for us including replacing windows, fixtures and siding.

We have a good deal of experience with contractors, and Matt is pretty good. We have recommended him to friends. He is a small shop, so may not be able to handle some big jobs, but he was good for us. He is very conscientious of costs, good subcontractors, very professional, and works to code. He's a pleasant fellow to work with.
Description of Work: They did a complete make-over of an apartment, including two baths and a kitchen.
