Jim Hunt and his team were exceptional. We had a tight deadline to complete our basement renovation, and his team sped through the work required in record time. They even came in on weekends to work around our schedule. After our basement flooded, they redid the drywall, vinyl flooring, re-painted, etc. All of this was completed in <10 days. Jim and all of his team were professional, speedy, and all of the work was top quality. I?d recommend them to anyone.
Description of Work: After our basement flooded we contacted a few contractors to fix the damage and Hunt General Contracting provided the lowest estimate to fix our basement (including complete floor replacement both vinyl and carpet, drywall patching and painting) and was able to do it within our tight timeline.

What a GREAT find! Hunt General Contracting is definitely the contractor to hire! I needed 2 textured ceiling torn down and new drywall ceilings installed. Jim responded to my email right away and from that point on it was a great experience! The job was scheduled at my convenience and they arrived every day on time as promised! I never once heard a complaint about running into a problem. Each day Jim would end the day on a positive note by saying " everything went smooth today". Each day Jim introduced me to his guys as they entered my home. That made for a great feeling. Everyone was very polite and focused on making sure the job was done the way I wanted it done. Each day before they left, they told me what time they would be back the next day so I could schedule my day appropriately. I am so pleased with the way my ceilings turned out. The work was done quickly and looks fantastic. There is not one thing I could say bad about my experience with this contractor, his work, or the men that work with him. I waited 2 years to find a contractor I felt comfortable with doing the work. The wait was well worth it! To Jim and his crew...... you have got it right. What a way to run a business!

Very well with Hunt. The manufacturer of the doors, not so much. They were warped and had to be re-ordered and there was some confusion over who was to do the job. The manufacturer had a very limited warranty policy and Hunt finished the installation in professional fashion.

Part of my front bedroom ceiling came down and I needed some work done on my back bedroom ceiling. They replace the whole front bedroom ceiling and painted. They repaired the back bedroom ceiling and painted that. Clean up was also included. I took a chance with Hunt General and I'm glad I did. I would definitely consult with them on any future repairs I made need in my home.

Jim and his team came back to help us around the house. We needed trim work and a closet done. Again I was very pleased with everything they do. Very personable, professional, and overall caring. They went above and beyond accommodating family needs around there work when I had to reschedule at times. They kept communication up to find the best time to finalize everything.between sick kids and different commitments. I really appreciate all they do again and again.

I used Jim once again after having a great experience with drywall installation. Jim responded to me right away as he did the first time. Work was started and completed in same day. All his guys have been very professional and down to earth. I left them alone in my home once again with no problems. The floor looks awesome and the guys did a great job cleaning up what mess was made during the installation. I have already recommended them to my coworkers. Thanks again Jim, Ted, Bobby and Greg!

We had water damage due to the extreme ice produced during the various winter storms. One wall in our press room suffered water damage. We contacted Jim and he came out to our business the same day. He approach to correcting the problem was very reasonable. He provided a quote which was accepted by our Ins. Adjustor and Ins. company. The repairs to the pressroom required coordination as the roof suffered damage. The various snow storms delayed the roof repairs. Jim was very flexible when scheduling our work. We arranged for the work to start on 3/24/14. Jim and his crew arrived on time and did a nice job. They were neat, professional and completed the work as promised. In addition, Jim replaced an outside door on our building. This required rebuilding the frame. This was completed on the same day. In summary, we are very pleased with Jim and his company. We will continue to use them for work at our business.

UPDATE: Jim Hunt's response to this review is filled with inaccuracies. For example, Mr. Hunt never provided a "detailed" invoice, rather a fabricated invoice that did not include the entire contracted scope of work nor an accurate reflection of the work done on my property (such as charging for trash removal, when I had to remove 15 contractor bags filled with tile and debris and stuffed into my closet and chimney - causing damage to the brickwork - myself). Additionally, Mr. Hunt did such an unacceptable job and was so unprofessional in communications (telling me I should not call or email him at all - even when he built shelves not cut the correct length, nor all cut the same length, nor hung to specification - because I did not know what I was taking about), I could not allow him to continue work on my property. I can only imagine where his positive reviews came from - friends and family? I would sincerely recommend all Angie's List subscribers steer clear of Hunt General Contracting. I paid an initial deposit of $2,500, but had to terminate the contract for reasons outlined below. At the time of termination, I requested that Mr. Hunt invoice me for services rendered and return the excess payment paid through my deposit. Mr. Hunt provided an invoice fraught with discrepancies. It included a breakdown of material and labor totaling $4,850, the full proposed cost of the project, yet the included categories (demo, drywall, floor, electric, trim, paint, trash removal, gas, insurance) did not cover the entire scope of work nor did the accrued total reflect the work that was actually done at the property. I made numerous attempts to resolve the issue amicably; however, Mr. Hunt indicated refusal to communicate with me about this issue. I have supporting documentation outlining the unacceptable work and unprofessional dealings I had with Mr. Hunt. With no other recourse available, I have filed a complaint with the Pennsylvania Department of State and plan on filing a complaint in small claims court as I need the excess funds I provided Mr. Hunt to complete this project on my property. Reasons for Termination Outlined in Letter of Termination: -Work did not start on the project in a timely manner. The original project start date was scheduled for 2/18/14. Work did not begin until 2/21/14. -Work is not being completed on the project in a timely manner. When work commenced on 2/21/14, two workers were at the property for less than three hours. When work continued on 2/24/14, one worker was at the property for roughly three hours. I was informed on 2/24/14 that work would not take place on 2/25/14, and would not begin again until 2/26/14. On 2/26/14, two workers were at the property for roughly six hours. -Workers have not arrived at the property at the specified start time. I was told that a worker would arrive at 8am on 2/24/14. I received a text message at 7:51 that morning stating that the worker would be late, with an estimated arrival time of 9:30am; however, the worker did not arrive until after 10am. -Specific concerns about access to the main water valve have continually not been addressed. Workers covered access to the main water valve on 2/21/14. The worker that arrived on 2/24/14 was informed that it would be necessary to create an opening to access this valve. The worker made a small hole extending from an existing outlet hole that did not provide proper access to the valve. I addressed this concern again on 2/26/14; no progress was made and access is still insufficient. -Open shelving plans were discussed in advance of the written contract. You indicated that the shelves would be hung without detectible supports. On the morning of 2/26/14, you indicated that the shelves would be hung with a 3/4 inch piece of wood underneath for support. However, the shelves were hung with L-brackets, which I had specifically mentioned during both previous conversations (prior to receiving the estimate and on the morning of 2/26/14) that I did not want. You stated that the shelves would be redone as they did not meet the specifications, and the materials could not be reused. -I spoke with you and provided a diagram for the desired measurements for the open shelving, indicating 82 inches for the new counter length on the wall below the cabinet. The shelves were to be centered above the counter with six inches free on either side. I also stated that I wanted the space to be equal between the shelves. The shelves were not cut to the proper length, leaving six inches on the left side and NO space on the right side. Further, the shelves were spaced 10 inches apart and 10.5 inches apart. There is also a gap along the backside of the shelves. -Drywall installed next to the exposed rear wall is not level on the sides or on the ceiling. -Careless plastering has left plaster on the exposed wall, on existing stained wood trim, and cabinets that it was known were being reused. -No effort has been made to put down drop cloths or protect kitchen appliances or hard wood floors in the living room. -No trash has been removed from the property, and the space is filled with full trash bags. -Work completed to-date has been careless and unacceptable. Work is also being completed in haphazard way. The open shelves were installed on walls that are damaged and unfinished, rather than on finished, painted walls. -I have attempted to communicate my concerns about this work on several occasions. I have email documentation of both email communications and phone conversations that have taken place. I have not been treated with respect during our phone conversations, and I do not feel that my concerns have been adequately addressed.
Description of Work: I had to sue Jim Hunt to get a return of the deposit for work his team did not finish. The court sided in my favor and I am currently waiting to receive a court-ordered payment of $1,800 + court fees. I hired Jim Hunt to complete a general contracting project on my property following water damage that occurred due to a burst pipe at a neighboring property. Work was to include: removal of an existing wall to expose a stone and brick wall behind it; pointing and sealing of newly the exposed wall; drywall repair and painting; removal of existing floor and painting of floor with concrete paint; installation of GFI outlet; removal of upper cabinets, countertop, sink and backsplash; installation of new countertop and sink; installation of open shelving; installation of toe kick and trim; painting of cabinets, toe kick and trim. I had to terminate my contract with Mr. Hunt prior to completion of the project due to unacceptable and untimely work and unprofessional dealings that resulted when I attempted to communicate my dissatisfaction with the work.

Response from Hunt General Contracting LLC
In a letter dated March 3 ,2014, (as well as through numerous (over 50) emails and phone calls previously) all of these issues were addressed (see below). A kitchen cannot be demoed and rebuilt in 3 days, especially when the dimensions (approx. 150 sq. ft) clearly do not allow for more than 2 workers at a time, with materials and tools. Our work was abruptly terminated by the client after merely 3 days of DEMO work before any finishing work had started. We stand by our work completely, as well as all details outlined in our contracted scope of work-- signed in agreement by the customer. Additionally, we stand by our invoice with detailed documentation of work completed, man hours, expenses, and materials purchased--even offered to return $200.00 of the initial deposit. Although you mention that your attempts to resolve this issue were amicable, threatening legal action and complaints with the state licensing board can hardly be considered "amicable". As I informed you I was advised by my legal council to no longer respond to your threats. We are very appreciative of our numerous OUTSTANDING reviews (on the basis which you hired us...) and loyal client base. I guess this just speaks to the unfortunate fact that you can't please everyone. Good luck with the kitchen. March 3, 2014 [removed member name], To address the concerns noted in your letter: As per your email 2/19/14—you were informed in advance and you provided consent for our delayed start date: Hi Jim, It's okay - what's one more day? I'll have everything ready to go for Friday morning.------ DIRECT QUOTE FROM CUSTOMER EMAIL Thanks, [removed member name] As for the number of workers, and hours worked—please see contracted scope of work. As you will notice there is absolutely no reference as to how many workers may be present in the home or for how many hours. We are under no contractual obligation to you to provide a certain number of workers or hours. It is important to note that notice of your desire to terminate our signed contract came after merely three days of working. A kitchen renovation cannot be completed in three days. Work that was done consisted of demo and rough finish work. You did not allow us to begin the finishing stages of any of this work, therefore yes; it does indeed appear to be unfinished. Minor spackle marks caused by the taping stage were on your stone wall, which I repeatedly told you we would take a wire-wheel to. (worth noting, spackle can be removed with simply water…) This common process would essentially sand down all stone and brick, and would have absolutely no problem taking down a bit of drywall, compound (no plaster was used, contrary to what you referenced in your letter) prior to us pointing and painting the wall. Again I must reiterate—the drywall was unfinished, I can understand why you would not like the look of the project in that state, but we were not allowed the opportunity to provide any finish services. The water main valve--I truly do not understand how you can say this was not addressed when I repeatedly informed you that we only needed to install an access panel to cover existing hole for water main valve which is normally completed on the final day of projects. In my over ten years of experience I am well aware of the sequence necessary to complete all items on my contracted scope of work. After repeatedly addressing the shelving issue over the phone with you I am surprised by your account of my response. Not only did I explain numerous times to you the reasoning for attaching the L brackets--there was no support on either side of the shelves you designed, therefore I had to install the L brackets to ensure the safety of you and your family based on the weight of the items you expressed you would like to put on the shelves. Over the phone, you were not happy with the design of the brackets, however, during our conversation we discussed an alternative--to put a side piece on the shelves and to make the shelves 6 inches bigger so we would have another side support on the adjacent wall. I informed you that we would not be able to reuse the material, but assured you that I would cover in full the cost the new material. Unfortunately, although this conversation ended amicably, you did not allow us to reenter your home to provide the service discussed. Additionally, you were well aware of the alternate method for hanging the shelves—see your email dated 2/26/14 where you “recapped” our phone conversation clearly referencing the new shelving agreement and that I would cover the cost of new material. Finally, to address your issue with communication—we have an email thread of over 48 messages including my collaboration with you to provide a detailed scope of work for not only you, but also an additional scope of work to submit to your insurance company. I responded to your phone calls, which were made after each visit to your home—your tone often accusatory and requiring multiple explanations of the exact same projects. I assured you that all would be taken care of to your liking, however, you presented as impatient and unwilling to listen to my expertise. Although you may not like it, I am under no contractual obligation to communicate daily—my sole obligation is to complete my contracted scope of work with the highest quality—you denied us that by only allowing us to work for 3 days. You do not get to dictate the hours worked or work completed—I am well aware of the necessary process needed in order to ensure the highest quality of work. In regards to the $2500.00 deposit— as part of our signed agreement, you are required to provide this amount prior to us starting the job. We provided man-hours, materials, gas, insurance coverage, etc. I was more than willing to accommodate your excessive needs, however, due to your own impatience and inflexibility this project has come to a halt. However, I stand by my work and obligation to you as my customer to complete my contracted scope of work and would like the opportunity to finish the project in its entirety. (We were denied the opportunity to complete our scope of work.) Regards, Jim Hunt Owner, Hunt General Contracting, LLC

Jim was great and his staff worked hard to finish all the projects in a timely manner. At the first visit Jim will let you know what he can do, what he can't and will offer a very fair price quote. He always gets back to you and will work on getting you materials, really he will try to assist with whatever to get the job done. I would not hesitate to use Jim for future home projects.

I love those guys, they did a great job. I have an 11/2 storey house and the second floor was like a dorm bedroom, really long narrow bedroom with a lot of paneling and drop ceilings. They took down the drop ceiling, they put up dry wall, they skin coated the paneling, painted everything and added baseboards. It looked really great when it was all done. They also cleaned up really well. They did not leave anything lying around. They are really nice honest guys.

Jim answered my first e-mail within minutes. From there we exchanged information which led to him providing me what I thought was a very fair price. He started when he said he would and finished in a more than reasonable amount of time. His crew were all very professional and polite. They worked hard and did a great job! I have already given his business cards to co-workers and he is probably coming back in the near future to do some additional work for me. I would highly recommend him. This is the first time I used Angie's List and it worked out great.

Jim Hunt and his crew were courteous and punctual. They removed all trash and left the room clean each day. Jim kept to the calendar schedule he projected for our remodeling and finished when he planned. He kept to the proposed price of the project. He was the low bid but the quality of work was high. Jim and his team finished our basement this winter. They did an excellent job with all areas of the construction. Jim handled coordinating permits and code standards with the township, and also worked with us on the design and floor plan. We had two rooms (den and bedroom), an egress window, a full bathroom, a finished closet, and two unfinished rooms (storage and mechanical) put in. Jim subbed out the electrical, plumbing, tile, and the window well dig-out to reputable, insured sub-contractors. Jim seems to ?know a guy? for any aspect of the job. They also did a bunch of custom carpentry including cubbies under the stairwell and built-in bookcases and cabinets for the entertainment area. We are very happy with the job Hunt General Contracting did, and would definitely use them again for future projects.

About 3 months ago, water leak from my neighbor's house caused damage to my kitchen ceiling. The contractor I hired prior to General Hunt did not complete the job. . At that time, I contacted General Hunt and Jim return my phone call promptly. He completed the job within 2 weeks. The job was done to my satisfaction. After finishing the job, Jim and his workers cleaned up the area very well. There were 2 times when Jim had to cancel my appointment, but he made up the time by coming to work on Sunday. I will hire General Hunt again.

Jim Hunt and his team did an outstanding job. We could not be more pleased. His team arrived on time each morning and were clearly dedicated to their trade and dedicated to their customer. They were receptive to our scheduling needs as we wanted to remain at home as long as possible during the floor job. The floors were done in two phases as directed by us without question by Hunt and the floor company. The floor company used by Hunt also gets and A for all categories. The entire job was completed in a timely manner and the home was left neat and cleaner than we imagined it could be after a hardwood floor sand/refinish job. And we are always very concerned with cleanliness when selecting contractors. Price was fair for both the family room job and floors. Hunt also made great suggestions to enhance final appearance. Furthermore, upon arrival the first day, we added two relatively minor jobs and after hearing them stated he would not raise the price given at original estimate. It is evident he prides himself in customer satisfaction. I highly recommend him to any member reading these reviews.
Description of Work: Removed paneling and old insulation in family room. Installed insulation and drywall and crown molding. Added recess lighting. Painted walls, trim, and ceiling. Subcontracted hardwood floor refinishing job(entire house) which included 7 rooms, hallways, and stairs. Painted and installed shoe molding in entire house after floors were finished.

Jim and his team were extremely professional. They showed up when they said they would and completed all of the work in a timely and efficient manor. Any issue that came up Jim quickly resolved. He was always very responsive whenever I had a question and was very willing to offer suggestions on what would look best. They gutted my entire upstairs and downstairs, as well as my basement. They built 2 spacious closets, drywalled and painted all bedrooms, and completely remodeled the bathroom. They knocked back 2 walls in the downstairs and refinished the hardwood floors, drywalled and painted, and installed ceiling fans. They laid new tile, installed all appliances, and built a custom pantry in the kitchen. They waterproofed the basement as well. The entire project was about 6 weeks and Jim and the crew did an outstanding job. I would most certainly hire Jim again. Many thanks to Joe, Ted, and Bobby for their hard work. The house has now become a home.

We did not end up going with this contractor, but he responded very quickly to my call, set up a free estimate in a timely manner, and arrived when he said he would for the estimate. He emailed the estimate the next day. I would definitely consult him again in the future.
Description of Work: He provided an estimate for scraping popcorn ceilings in two rooms, preparing the ceilings for painting and scraping and painting ductwork in one room.
