The most horrible experience. Brad Howell was totally unreliable, unprofessional, little he did had to be redone. Lied to us all the time, never held any of his commitments. Job was to take 3 weeks, 6 months later only 1/3 done and he dared to ask for an additional $1000.

Lousy service,it took them 4 days to do 2 days worth of work. I dont think he was a qualified roofer. They came out a couple of times to fix some of the problems they created. They did not clean , I had to have the neighbors help me clean up aruond the house. They left the dumpster in front of my house for 25 days after the job was completed. I called the dumpster company they told me the Howell over filled the dumpster which is why they did not pick it up yet. Dumpster company had to have two guys come unload half the dumpster so they can remove it from my property. I am still cleaning up and pieces of the roof are still falling off. Apparatently it was only glued and not nailed down. I had to call on numerous occassions to get things fixed but did not get responses in a timely matter or at all sometimes

Run, I repeat run, don't walk away from Howell builders and remodelers. (Based solely on our experience) Where do I begin... (I have all this documented by video and photos as well so if anyone wants further details, just ask!) Estimate was very vague and no specific breakdown of work or materials was provided. Project was supposed to take 2-3 weeks as per Brad. I had to fire him after 6 MONTHS had passed and the deck was still not finished. 2 entire homes were built in my development, one after the other, from start to finish while our deck was still not done! I am in the process of filing a law suit now and cannot wait to have this heard in court. The quality was horrific. Almost every composite board was either cracked or had mushroomed because they didn't drill pilot holes. He refused to replace most of the boards, citing that is would be "too hard" to do now. He pieced sections together from smaller pieces (both decking and railing) to avoid having to purchase additional materials without letting us know he was going to do this. This compromises the structural integrity of the railing and presents a safety issue. He never properly flashed a portion of the deck and this caused water penetration into our basement. We brought this to his attention when we first hired him and 6 months later, we STILL have water coming into the basement. He just kept ignoring our request to address this issue. His men were very unprofessional and they left the work site a trash dump despite repeated warnings to clean up. Nails, screws, trash and debris all over the job site which were never picked up. My wife, who was pregnant at the time and I were on our hands and knees cleaning up the area while they walked around refusing to assist. They did not respect us or our property, constantly slamming tools down onto our finished basement and breaking things without admitting any fault. Major bait and switch as well. Promised upgrades are in fact materials that he purchased on closeout without disclosing or passing any savings onto us. Things that we discussed as being included ended up being extra (back-filling and restoring the land that was excavated, composite railing to match the decking, lighting, touch-up flashing among others). Price jumped over 50% from original estimate. He worked other jobs on our time and was only here when he wanted to be, providing no notice whatsoever that no one was showing up to work. He also continued to ask for more and more money up front. This is because HE USES YOUR MONEY TO FUND HIS OTHER JOBS! He has no money in his company so this is his business model. He did not disclose this to us and many things that we were expecting to have done, he simply did not do and told us he "didn't have the money." Our entire experience with Brad and his men was the worst that my wife and I have ever encountered with any contractor. We hope this review will save someone the trouble and aggravation that we have had to endure. Good luck!

We had problems from start to finish.
Description of Work: This was a bathroom remodel. We were given an estimate that sounded good but in the end was not. Brad claimed to be a good at all the crafts like plumbing, electrician, tiler, etc. He hires people to do those things. The contract was made up of materials and labor. We were given catalogues to pick out the things we wanted. We were the only ones who signed it. Found out later that the alot of the things on the contract which we were given the impression were included were really only listed as installed not bought and installed. These were the expensive things like the glass shower doors,Fan and light assembly etc. After the walls were torn out, installation installed, and walls created they started the electrical and plumbing . Brad constantly left his men without necessary supplies and they were asking if I had this or that to help them out. I also had to drive them to Home Depot to get paint and supplies. After the plumbing was (done) using bread , we saw that the shower was very loose and not secure. Had to be redone. The bread was never removed after and when we hooked up the washer no water came in. We didn't know what the problem was so we had to pay a repairman to come out and fix it. Bread clogged the water in filters. Brad then brought in two men to do finish work. It was awful. Later he claimed they claimed to be finishers but weren't. All they did had to be redone over and over. Brad did eventually fix most of those things. This job was to be three weeks. It took three and one half months. We even did the ceiling ourselves as we didn't want it ruined. We chose him to keep the cost down. It ended up costing alot more.

I couldn't get anything in writing from them. They would just leave us messages and wouldn't give us a break-down of the cost. They always showed up on time.

It went awesome. Brad is very up front and honest when it came to communicating his ideas, the snags along the way, and was willing to work with us the best he could. He did such an excellent job on the design and construction, securing the load (1/2 bumpout roof is concrete slab.), The tile job was very impressive, he knew and educated us on what satillo was, placed special tiles in visual areas, and handled the tricky install. Came out really nice and added warmth and rustic western quality to our country home. The deck and railings looked great to and now we have two sets of doors to look out and walk out onto a nice clean cedar deck, the spiral stairs were equally impressive. They put it up in about three days then primed and painter the entire thing. I love a good spiral. The patio, though it took long than anticapated, looks like a mosaic work of art, the repointed foundation came out "so so" matching the old style was hard. The lights and swtches really worked out for us, and except for the lack of wall space to actually put outlets, he made it work, as to the electric baseboards. Basically the complete remodeling of our entire1st level and entrance way to our home went way better than I planned. I became frustrated with the time it took but my wife was constantly changing her mind and adding on more work, and adding ideas... Brad was understanding of this and did try to keep as many guys on the job as he could, due to other work. I would highly recommend if not insist on using his company for any remodeling, construction, additions, decks, anything really. This guy is really down to earth and friendly, and his crew has an eye and lots of skill. My wife really appreciated his lay out ideas, and his willingness to collaborate. His crew was polite and tidy as well. They are skilled no doubt, and they even looked our dogs and after my 4 year old as he would wander off into the site from time to time. Although Im sure it was annoying, they worked around our lives (dogs and kids and limited space for all our stuff.) and they were happy to help us with what ever we needed. They worked many a long days and nights on our project and it came out looking even more incredible than we both imagined. Feel free to email me and I will send you some before and afters.
Description of Work: We have an old stone farm house built around 1860. inside... The first level basement in our house was a walk in with two entrances. It was finished in the 60s and really showed its age/wear...It was a carpeted, chopped up three bedroom/ hallway and large rec room with one door. and a couple of windows We wanted to open everything up in the finished basement and turn it into a meet and greet office/guest room for inlaws/guests. My wife is a dog trainer and Im a lawyer and we needed a good place to meet clients and my mother who stays with us from time to time. We gutted the entire thing, moved all wires into ceiling, built one switch post. Did away with the old windows and doors, ripped open two long walls and put 6 double french doors. (or 12singles), along with big headers to support the wieght of our concrete deck above 1/2 the basement(hard to explain) we also put two more windows where there we non. we repointed 1/half of the old foundation previously covered over by stud walls, and had accent as well as high hats put in the ceiling. You could say Brad needed to turn our musty, dark, cramped living space into a one of a kind, greenhouse like open floor, with views of the gardens from every vantage point. which really brings in the natural light. We wanted the old stained carpet removed and 600sqft statillo tile throughout, He was to also put new high hats and run wires back to the panel. Outside. Our front walkway was like a Pressure treated sidewalk with pacasandra everywhere. We loved our outside shower but wanted to again open up and do flagstone. A 450 sq ft patio of flagstone outside with walkways, and extended the deck (above the renovation rooms) 5 ft out with all new cedar post, rails, decorator ballisters, and a spiral staircase. We also needed a another rotten door replaces and four 6x6 posts out front. (What? it was built in the 1800s) All phases of this project was under the care of Howell Renovations, including finish work and painting.
