When we need an exterior door replaced on the side lower level of my home, Lowe’s was a disaster from taking forever to do an estimate to then having the estimate range wildly in price spanning from $2000-$4000 then then telling me I needed a custom built door. We decided to go to our local talk page on Facebook to look for recommendations. DAVID CONSTRUCTION came highly recommended we called them and they responded to us immediately. James the project manager was a dream to deal with. He came right out, measured, gave us an estimate, and upon us getting the door they were just as prompt with the install. They honored their price, even though the door had some major issues and was cemented in place as opposed to installed with anchors. They did everything they had to do to get the old door out and get the area cleaned up, prepped and installed the new one like champs. We are over the top pleased with their service, their work ethic, and their communication. I will be using them for all future project as well as referring them to all friends and family. David the owner was accommodating and pleasant to work with and again James the project manager was absolutely amazing.
Description of Work: Exterior door removed (it was cemented into the foundation) and replaced.

I did not know this company when I hired them, I was taking a chance that they'd be reputable. I had David's remodel my kitchen last summer. I was so happy with their work ethic & expertise that I also hired them to put in new windows. This month I had them replace my back deck. As usual, they did an awesome job, actually exceptional. They deconstructed it and had the new one rebuilt in 3 days. The work crews are very hard-working. They took 1 break to eat their lunch, and it's been close to 100 degrees. I've never had a problem with them as far as money goes, I even pre-paid this time because I know they're a respectable, reliable company.
Description of Work: New decking. My deck is about 10 feet from the ground, and I had 2 sets of stairs put in. It required architectural drawings, and the deck is fairly large.

This company has some sketchy finances. The salesman Howard requested the check to be made out directly to him, and the processed check shows that he took it to a check cashing business in North Philly.

Response from David's Construction Inc
I want to give you an answer regarding this complaint. The company - David's Construction Inc., has never had such a client and has never been in contact with him. Our company attempted to contact Angi's support to find out this person's phone number, but it was unsuccessful. Angi's representative transferred our phone to different departments three times, but we still need an answer. So, this claim is pure slander, and it is interesting what the purpose of this statement was.

Renovate a bathroom! We had Howard come give us an estimate. He was awful. Because we were in that night he Said things to us that was not nice to reassure that we will not use them. Their price was high and he was a pompous ***. Stay clear

we thought the concrete wasn't bad and the price was fairly reasonable, but we have since been told most people think the price was pretty high. Our neighbor hired them because we referred them and they didn't put the spacers in her concrete sidewalk, she had to call them back to do it. My main complaint is the door replacement. We had a woodpecker problem so we paid extra to have some would repaired on frames and had them cover the wood with metal flashing. Our main complaint when we started was that you could see light coming through around the door and the weather stripping was finished on the bottom of door. When they finished the door it looked good, but when we closed it while they were there, you could see light coming through around new door!! really?? If I can see light coming through the door can't be very well sealed and imagine the air ? My husband told the guys' boss and he had them redo it after some discussion. It seemed to be fixed, but a few months later we noticed the weather stripping was coming off of the bottom of the door. My husband called owner, Howard Polinski, and he promised to send his window/door guys back out . The work was done in May 2017, we called him in Sept 2017. After numerous calls and promises it is October 2018 and we are still waiting for someone to show up. So the cost for 2 regular sized windows and 1 door (same door was available we found later at Home Depot for around $225) and flashing was $2700 and although windows seem fine, we have exactly the same problem as we started with our back door. A back door with the weather stripping hanging off and that isn't properly sealed. I gave them some C's because we still feel the sidewalk work was done reasonably well, (finish could have been better) even if we paid a premium price for it and window frames seem alright as far as we can tell.

They are out of Pennsylvania. They stunk. They came over here and everything that was on that contract, they couldn't do. They couldn't do roof leaks, they couldn't do the leak that was the most important thing; they couldn't fix the leak. I b***hed about that and they ended up having to take the backdrop off of the house again and put more flashing back there. That was the main thing; we wanted that leak fixed. We didn't need siding all around; we needed that back leak fixed. They put in a door - which this recently caught up with me - they put in a door up in the attic and didn't put that in right, so of course it was an Aamco door; they cut the door down; the door got wet. Believe it or not, this is a storm door. The door got wet and exploded because the inside of it was like diaper material - it gets wet and it explodes. This is a storm door; they're supposed to get wet. So anyway, this Summer I took it upon myself; I took the door off and Aamco was going to provide me with another door, unbekown to them that this door was cut down. It wasn't supposed to be cut down. You're not supposed to cut down those standard doors. Well this d**n Dave's Construction company did cut it down, never said a word to me. I got the serial number; another provider worked with me, they got that for me. Nobody said a word about taking off the z-hinge, so that z-hinge got left on the door that was turned in to that other provider; the door comes, no z-hinge. So now I have to complain about this because now you know what, the z-hinge was part of the door. Well you didn't complain about that in the initial crisis. Well you know what, I'm a layman, I am not a construction worker. So they did provide me with a z-hinge. Then this other guy comes to put the door up; he cuts it down because you had to and I did accept responsibility for that. I said look, I'm not dropping the door up to the attic any more; they're talking about $4,000 of work and I said that would be the right way to do it, but you know what, I need to just fix this so that the water doesn't get in past the thermal door again. So this guy puts it up - now this one will really crack you up - he ordered me a z-hinge. I bring out mine; I had the presence of mind to take the paperwork off the box. He uses my z-hinge, charges me for another one, and keeps the one that he ordered. So I called Consumer Affairs, and unfortunately I wished he would have just brought the z-hinge because he sent it back. He did do right by me; but he sent it back and of course because of the free stocking and the cost itself in shipping, for what was $58, I ended up getting I think it was $37 or something back. But he did do right; I mean he tried to do right. Although I'm a firm believer that if I didn't call him right after - I went out after he finished it - because I looked at the bill and it didn't look right. I wrote out the check when he left; I looked at it, I said wait a minute - this is way more than he had proposed - so I went out and found out that I didn't have the z-hinge in there, so then I called him on his cell phone right away and I said listen, you don't get three things for nothing. You charged me for one, I bought it, you used mine, and you kept the other one. I said that's winning three times; I said you can't do that. So he did do right by that. But I don't think if I hadn't caught that, I don't think he would have acknowledged the fact, and he knew right off what I was talking about. So I'm telling you something - these guys are unbelievable. They never got the permits right; I had to go back up to the Township -they charged us more for the permits that they actually got. So I went up there and they were supposed to start on my birthday, December 22nd of 2011, they didn't start the d**n thing until January. And on top of that, January we were going on a cruise. They wanted to work on the house while nobody was here and I said no; I said you screwed up the start and finish date now so you can wait until we come back because I don't want anybody coming around here, for insurance purposes, working on the house. Then they broke my doorbell, they screwed up the security light, which I did recoup that because I bi****d enough and I told them, I said look you keep ripping stuff of of this place and I said you know, there was nothing wrong with the security light, there was nothing wrong with the doorbell - that just disappeared. The awning that was over the back door, they took. It was a rag awning; they took the frame, took the awning and threw it in the back with the frame. I guess they didn't think I was going to put it back on. So of course now it had a hole in it. This past year I actually had prongs - put up one of those metal ones, those permanent things or quasi-permanent - because you know what they used between the awning and the house? Silicone. So you know eventually with the heat and everything, that's just going to disappear, so I'll be siliconing till I die with that thing. I had to call back three times to come back with more silicone because it was leaking down the wall outside. But it was still leaking. You're not supposed to have that - that's why it was put up there. When we called him back this Summer about the door, the guy told me it wasn't his problem. I said wait a minute - you did the work. It says on their card that they're licensed and insured, but they're lousy - they're just plain lousy. Hard lessons, I tell ya. I think the price stunk too. The door was crappy, the thing leaked - it was a fight right through the whole thing. The quality was terrible. No, I would not use them again and I have already told people not to use them. That was a really bad, bad experience and I would hate to have even my worst enemies go through that.

The workers were excellent. They were there early and worked until after I got home from a full day's work. The roof looks great and they were done within 3 days. Given the work that was being done they worked well and quickly. It seems that once the paperwork was signed and the sale was complete it was much harder to get ahold of the owner and our sales man to ask more questions. Because we had so much roof removed to have the new roof put on and because we have aluminum siding there were gaps left between the roof and the siding. We would have loved to have those filled in but our attempts at getting thru to the owner weren't working. We decided we would just leave it as is...as it was a month later and my husband and I both work and couldnt keep taking time off to keep calling. It was a little expensive but one of the lower prices we received for replacing our whole roof.

He was horrible. It took from August to May to put in a set of front steps. It was done 10 months later. He never showed up. It was constant delays and I have a whole 2 pages of phone calls to him to get him to come back. The price was way out of line. I am a senior citizen and he walked up to the front door, one of those walk in the neighborhoods, and at the time our front porch was in bad shape. He was a very fast talker and before I know it I had signed. It was a horrible experience. He got money released to him and we don't know how he did it because the money was released to him without me knowing it through the finance company.

I showed the gentleman the bathroom and discussed what I wanted done. This took about 5 minutes. We then moved to my porch to sit down to go over what I thought was going to be an estimate. The man starts to explain the difference between contractor grade and premium grade. He is actually putting this in columns on his legal pad. He then goes on to discuss what he thinks would be the best way to go about doing this job. He is listing things such as removing wall tiles and floor tiles. Putting down sub floor and green (?) floor, new plumbing and new wiring. He then starts to discuss fixtures and even pulls out a brochure. I tell him I don't need to see the brochure as I have been in the stores many times and have prices these items out. He tells me that the stores I'm referring to (Home Depot and Lowes) don't carry the better brands. He then goes on to mention some of what is in his brochure and one of the names he mentions is Moen. I tell him that my faucet set in my other bathroom is a Moen and that I purchased it at Lowes. He then goes on to discuss that the outside of the item is the same but not the inside and that is the difference. It is at this time that I tell him this is not what I wanted and thanked him for stopping by. He asked me what I meant by that. I explained to him that I asked him for an estimate on removing a corner shower stall and installing a new one. What he was going over what gutting the walls and floors, installing new plumbing and electrical. I actually had to get up and go back into my house and thank him again for stopping by before he actually packed up his briefcase and left.
