Ended up being no charge. They couldn't fix the TV for a cost that was worth the repair, but they were very good and professional.

I am extremely dissatisfied with the Carl?s TV repair. I experienced a lack of customer service, and I saw no evidence of a commitment to customer satisfaction on the part of management or hired employees. Some of this could have been eased with clearer communication, but that is lacking in Carl?s also. Here is my experience. I have a dual CD player in which worked, but one side which also played, would not open. To be clear, both sides played, but one would not eject. I called Carl?s TV, a man told me that they did fix items like that, but they charge an upfront fee of $39.00 to evaluate the problem. I brought it right in. I was charged $45.00 to my credit card, which really did not compute even with the tax, but I let it go because I was told that the evaluation fee was applicable toward the repair. I told the man on the phone that I had a $100.00 limit on the repair. I waited for the diagnostic, 3 days, a week, finally at 10 days, final, I called I was told ?Soon.? This must have stirred something because I did get a call the next day telling me that the repair was going to be an additional $105.00 for a total of $150.00. Clearly, this was over budget, so I asked if it could be packed up and I could pick it up. I waited the rest of that day, the following day was Sunday, and so I guess that doesn?t count. On Monday I called, ?Can I pick up my CD unit?? I was told, ?Oh the techs are on the road they won?t be back all day.? The next day there was a snowstorm that was predicted so I asked, begged and cajoled if there was any way that the unit could be put back together, NOPE! ?It can?t be done.? The next day, I had to drive in the snow, and pay $45.00 for nothing. Another thing, I was charged a $4.00 fee for something that has to do with the environment. I was never explained why this applied to estimates so, I was charged $4.00 for looking at a broken CD player. What impact does that have on the environment? To add insult to injury, Carl?s added sales tax to that tax. Here?s my parting shot to bad communication, - I asked, what was wrong with the unit. I was told ?some sort of a circuit problem.? Gee, I didn?t even get a reasonable, adult answer for my fee and my patience. Now, if I was told that the diagnostic would take almost two weeks, and had that questionable environmental fee and the problem been explained to me, then this bad review would never have been written. I can?t rate Carl?s TV quality as far as repairs go, because I saw nothing and got nothing for my money. Carl?s TV has a poor to very weak commitment to customer service and satisfaction and clear communication is virtually non-existent. Lansdale residents can make up their own minds, but I will never go back.

Response from Carl's TV & Vacuum
[removed member name] I learned about your review via email notification from Angies list and wanted to respond right away but our work load at the time didn't allow it. I was very disappointed to find you had posted in other internet forums with additional comments such as "I had to call I got stories, delays, in-store policy, excuses". Stories and excuses indicates to me that our intentions are bad. I can assure you we work hard every day, at the least 6 days a week to do the very best we can. I agree ten days is much longer then I like but to be fair to all customers we have to take them on a first come first serve basis. Some units take longer then we like and can sometimes hold up our progress. By the same token and to be fair we don't want to rush any repair through. We are blessed by literally thousands of wonderful happy customers that we are hard pressed to get a good review from. Most all happy customer just don't. But keep in mind we have people come in to our store from all walks of life. Bad reviews are easy to get. We have had customers threaten to write bad reviews all over the internet IF we don't give them a discount. I will not respond to this. On this very page is an unhappy customer that I conducted business with the wife exclusively, but the Husband is the one that is misstating everything that I said. Again I won't respond. Get this one. A couple that had a carpet shampooer repaired a while back brought it in again but out of the warranty period and physically broken from misuse. I told them I would still repair it and there would be no charge. Just yesterday I find a bad review from him saying he has to keep paying us and he is going to take us to court. Their unit is now ready to be picked up, no charge. Now I have to see them again. Having said the above, I am not comparing you with any of this but there is always a (gray area) when dealing with the public. For example, I called to give you the price of repair. You were clearly not happy with the price and kind of barked "Pack it up and I will pick it up". I'm not sure if you hung up at that point but I wanted to tell you we will call you when we have your unit ready for you to pickup. When you did come in to pick it up you asked, what was wrong with it? Well my theory is, it is not what is wrong with it that is most important, it is the cost. It always comes down to the dollar and we already got a (do not repair) because of price. At that point I did give a vague idea of the fix with no real specifics. Reason being, some people think we should explain exactly what the fix is so they can do it themselves. We do not offer this service. Another (gray area). I would have given more details if asked but you had no follow up questions. However, we do give an itemized parts list and detailed description of work performed for approvals. All (gray area's) aside, I think I learned something from your post (Wish it was only one) and clearly a communication problem. I would like the opportunity to address your other questions in person and do what ever I can to get the end result you are looking for. I sincerely think some good will come of it.

My HD CRT TV wouldn't turn on. Called Carl's and was given a very reasonable diagnostic price. I took the TV there and was given assistance moving it from my car to the shop. A week later, as promised, he called and let me know what had failed and that the part was packaged with the CRT and the cost. The TV was unusual and they couldn't find an alternative parts source. It was more than what I wanted to spend. I returned to the shop to pick up the unit and mentioned that I would be in the market for a replacement. It would have to fit in an entertainment center and I didn't think that there were many options, as it was too big for a 26" and too small for any 32" that I knew about. I was shown a display unit that would fit perfectly and had all the features that I wanted.. He gave me a price and I purchased a Sony 32" LED from inventory and took it with me. When I got home, I wondered about the price and found it available, and on sale, from a big box store. Amazingly, the price was within $1 of what Carl's charged me. I'll admit I've had bad experiences with big box stores, with sales people who thought they knew about the products and didn't. Bait and switch and high pressure sales of extended warranties. Carl's is a friendly, pleasant operation with no hidden agendas. They'll fix what they can and advise you when it doesn't make sense. I'm 100% satisfied with the experience and thankful that Angies list steered me to Carl's through an "A" rating.
Description of Work: Carl's diagnosed the problem, with my TV . Too expensive to repair, they recommended a replacement at a very good price.

Poor everthing
Description of Work: He told us the repair would cost $500 and take three days. It cost us $500 but never got repaired. Each time we called over the next two weeks to check the status of the unit he tried to sell us a new unit we didn't want. He never fixed the TV. We eventually just picked it up and took it some place else and they fixed it for $150.

He was great. He was very responsive to our phone calls and was quick to show up on the scene. He was also a professional and knew what he was doing. We did have to call him back in light of some issues with the cable box but other than that we were pleased.
