We needed low voltage lighting for a poolside cookout and birthday celebration that would go into the night.. We reached out to several providers, and unfortunately the contractor we wanted to use could not schedule us due to prior commitments. They offered flexibility in payment methods, including a credit card payment option. Given the other expenses for the party, we were looking for a company that would take credit card payments, but unfortunately Nightfall did not. We tried to negotiate a deferred payment plan that would work and came up with a schedule that had us depositing half before the job, 1/4 the day of the job and the final 1/4 in about a month. The initial work was handled by two men, one of whom was the contractor. To their credit, they worked hard and got everything in and initially (at least for the night of the party, everything worked ok). It was explained that the fixtures and workmanship were covered by an initial warranty, and we had issues merely weeks after the party was over and attempted to contact Nightfall multiple times to address the issues. The case can be made that our delaying the final payment for the last 1/4 of the job caused Nightfall to decide not to respond to us. However: 1. The products and/or workmanship required follow-up to the degree that our late payment was more than warranted. They should have found out what was wrong before indicting us to the degree of rendering no follow-up. For example, the spotlights mounted on the roof stopped working 1 week after the party. The walkway lights were not sunken deep enough in the mulch-covered ground and started leaning crookedly. There were a few calls made and despite my concern, we did get the final payment in, albeit late. This part of things was our issue and my decision, but consider that 3/4 of the job was paid before work was completed in order to mitigate their risk. 2. Addressing the issues under warranty could have been handled better than the childish non-response, especially after four calls were made to alert them of problems with the system and even to approach them about further work in a calmer, less stressed environment with no need for any financial extension. Simply having some dialog to clear the air would have been appropriate. Unfortunately, we never received the benefit of this dialog and never heard from them again. They then never knew of the issues that we faced after their installation, and that we had a legitimate reason to delay the final payment. In fairness, I believe them to do quality work. My biggest issue was the pretentiousness exhibited by the contractor that implied we had no reason to delay our payment. They should have returned the call to find out what was wrong instead of assuming we were deadbeats... It was very unprofessional and presumptuous.
