This is the detailed story that I sent to Elkins Park Court, who ruled in our favor, minus email transcripts and phone call records which I have. In the interest of time and making our closing, our Realtor recommended ?A guy that does jobs for him all of the time?. It seemed like a simple job, so we agreed and within two hours Mike Keenan of Summit restoration was offering us an estimate. The previous owners put $2500.00 into an escrow account at closing, to cover repairs. Mike told us that it could be a simple repair, or possibly a major repair, so he would write us a worst-case estimate to secure the funds. If it was less than the estimate, the balance would go to the previous owners when the work was completed to our satisfaction. Nearly a month went by without hearing from Summit when I decided to investigate the leaking ceiling on my own. I discovered a leak in our tub caulking, not a pipe, and cut away ceiling debris to make it look more presentable. This is detailed in the August 11th email that I sent to Mike Keenan (attached). After close to another month of not hearing from Summit to schedule a repair date we decided to use another contractor. My Wife contacted our realtor to ensure that we had the funds available to pay another contractor and we found that the ?Invoice?, not the ?Estimate? that Summit restoration sent to our Realtor and that he then passed to Escrow company asked for immediate release of the funds which had Summit Restoration immediately paid the worst-case scenario estimate amount, before anyone even showed up to begin work. A day or two later, I received the next email from Mike on September 14th, 2010 (attached). Late in September, Summit showed up to start work on the ceiling. My regret is that I did not document the exact dates that their crew worked on the house. I traveled for work extensively through most of September and October and was never home when they showed. My Wife said that they were at the house 4-5 times patching the drywall hole and painting, but never addressing the seal in the tub, which is the source of the leak. Each time the crew showed, my Wife reminded them that this needed attention, but they never had the materials on hand, so it was never addressed. Also, two out of the 4-5 times scheduled, they did not show up on the days that they were scheduled to be there, simply knocking on the door on a random day close to the one scheduled. This began an entirely new series of phone calls to get our tub fixed, detailed on the email on November 10th 2010 (attached). I immediately received a call from Chuck Beaudet , who sent two guys out to do the caulking of the tub. I asked for the balance of the money, as they had it all and had not performed the work detailed in the invoice and I had complained about the rippling in the ceiling because of the leak not being fixed before the patch. He said that we will ?Work something out? when he came out to visit the house to write up a final invoice. He never showed up. I was forced to constantly call and email, threaten legal action and try to get our realtor involved, to no avail. On May 26th 2011, my emails were no longer just going unanswered, but were now being rejected by Summit?s server (see attached). On several other occasions I caught Chuck Beaudet on the phone asking him to simply come out and look at the work that was done. Each time, he agreed and I took a day off work to meet him, and he never showed up. This was March 10th and June 29th 2011, that we were supposed to meet. The last conversation I had with Mr. Beaudet was on June 26th, he ensured me that he would be at our house at 8:30am on June 29th to resolve the issue and come to an understanding. He never showed up. In the end, we have no detailed invoice of the work that Summit restoration performed, we are dissatisfied with everything they did and the circumstances that they were performed under. They were paid for a job that they did not do without us signing off on any work. No Summit Restoration Managenment has ever stepped foot in our home since the first day that a crew came in, in the end of September 2010. Given the time that this has passed, dissatisfaction with work performed, our patience and amount of stress generated, my lost days of work for meetings that Mr. Beaudet never appeared and us now having to find a new contractor to fix the rippling in our bathroom ceiling due to the poor work and communication between Summit Restorations crew and management, we are filing for full amount of $2483.64 that Summit restoration received and my day rate of $xxx.00 X 2 for the days that I needlessly took off to meet Mr. Beaudet, minus the $125.00 emergency fee that Summit charged to come out to provide the estimate. I feel that over the course of the year and the literally dozens of efforts that I made and chances that I have given Summit to do the right thing and resolve this issue, we are entitled to our money back to start the process over again. $2483.64 +$xxx+$xxx--------- $xxxxx.64 -125---------Total 2xxx.64 We have never seen a dime of this money. They essentially robbed us of the balance, knowing that it costs more money and hassle for us to try go after them than it was probably worth. I joined Angie's list specifically to share this info and will happily pay for years of membership to keep this review here. It is my obligation to warn others of dealing with this company. Please feel free to contact us if there are any questions regarding our experience. Best regards, Jeremy Myers
Description of Work: On July 16th, 2010 my wife and I were doing a final walk through of our new home, at XXX Woodlawn ave., Elkins Park Pa. when we noticed a leak in the ceiling of our downstairs bathroom. It was a simple caulk / drywall job. Please take a minute to read the story before considering using Summit Restoration - http://www.summitrescue.net/ for any work on your home. We sued for work not completed and balance of funds not refunded and won. Summit restoration has made no effort to contact us, complete the work or pay for damages won in court. This is 100% factual and not contested by Summit restoration.
