It was awful. It would take me a week to tell you exactly what was wrong. When I initially contacted him for the installation, I was concerned about him being able to lay the floor level and flush. Before I hired him, he told me he could lay the tile beautifully and without any problems. I ordered the tile and he picked it up, then he and his crew came to install the tile. They tore up the carpets and the vinyl flooring and began to lay the subflooring. They left to bid another job and left their employees here to lay the subflooring. They didn?t check the levelness of the floor before the left even though that is a standard industry practice. When they got back they found out that the floor isn?t level and that there is a hump in the dining room. He told me that he couldn?t level the hump in the dining room and that I would have tipped tiles there. I told him that I couldn?t live with that so he started to sand it and screw around with tiles. He told me that I would be able to feel it but not see it so I had him do it anyway. They destroyed a chair from my dining room table, they had total disregard for my furniture, they through my appliances on the driveway and then threw them into the garage at night, and they scratched my brand new dryer in the process. The contractors would leave the employees to do the job and those two kids were totally ignorant. Now I have tipped tiles everywhere, grout the wrong color, no baseboards, and mortar on my walls. He wouldn?t fix it when I asked him to; he said I hired him to lay a floor and that?s what he did. I am told the floor is laid wrong from the bottom up but no contractors will write a bid against them. I told him that I would sue him but he said he had an excellent reputation and there was nothing I could do to hurt him. More than once he told me that some things were state law; he told me there was nothing he could do about the hump in my floor and he told me that he had to stop the tile two inches away from the vanity. Other contractors told me otherwise so I believe he was telling me tall tales. I couldn?t wait to have him out of my house and I didn?t want to pay him. You can?t see the problems in the dining room if you aren?t sitting in the chairs or if it is the right time of day. You can cut your feet on the tipped tiles because they are so far out of place. I will never use him again and I wouldn?t recommend him either.
