As usual, these folks are just great! They have serviced this vehicle many times in the past (and others we have owned) and I have always been very happy with their honesty, price, dependability and prompt service. They applied a coupon before I even presented it on my most recent visit. The technicians do a great job, and when their representative calls to get the go-ahead, they always are patient and fully explain the work recommended and its cost. The Rewards and Coupons are a big help, but it is the quality work and honesty I appreciate the most. I have used this Pep Boys location since moving to Pittsburgh about 12 years ago, and will keep going back. Sorry it took so long to provide a review; I just joined Angie's List a few years ago!

During the previous evening I got a bad flat tire after hitting a pothole straight on with my front passenger side tire. I drove on the flat tire for a short distance to get off the road at a safe location, which ended up causing the rim that was holding the tire in place to bend. Fortunately, I was able to drive to Pep Boys the next (Sunday) morning on the spare tire. I made an appointment online, and I got in at Pep Boys first thing in the morning. They received the online reservation, which made the check-in process go very quickly. Pep Boys was able to fix the bad flat tire and bend the rim back into place in a total wait time of less than one hour (I shopped at Wal-mart while they fixed it). They were also very nice. I was extremely pleased.

Provider gave me a coupon which was passed due. No happy about that. They had a promotion running, where u get a 4th wheel for free, I was interested in that promotion, but I was told, the deal I was getting is much better. But now, since the coupon has expired, my deal is not all that good.

Went in for four new tires on my minivan. Left the van for three hours and returned when service was completed. After traveling about a mile, my car was shaking and hard to turn. I returned and waited another 45 minutes to learn the tires were not properlt seated (??). Assured everything was OK, I took my van home. The next day, I experienced harsh shaking on the highway. I returned AGAIN to discover the tires were also improperly balanced. They were quick to fix on the second return, but two returns = totally unacceptable! Buyer beware!

Tires were as ordered ... but the walk out the door price was about $100 more than I had expected when it actually came down to buying the tires than what I had been quoted over the phone earlier in the week. They "forgot" to tell me about the installation costs. Tires came in as promised. Went to have them put on. BTW, I paid for disposal of the current tires in advance when I ordered the tires ... but when we picked up the vehicle, we noticed that the old filty tires were inside the vehicle ... naked ... dirty tires in my vehicle ... no bag, just four dirty tires shoved in there where I put my milk and other groceries ... you know before I put them in the fridge? We took it over to the service bay and the guys just looked at us so we removed them from the vehicle ... no offer of help!! They said they "forgot" that we had paid for disposal. The more I thought about that the madder I got. Oh, and Pep Boys were saving a sticker from the tire for me, so I had to go back anyway to retrieve it after I got home because the service counter person did not give it to me ... even though he said it was in the papers he handed me upon complettion. I finally did get it when I went back and spoke with the guy that originally pulled it for me. So since I had to go back anyway .... I spoke with manager Dave whilst I was there too about the dirty tires inside my vehicle after I had paid for disposal. He was sorry. It is winter and was too cold to go home and scrub it out. ... he apologized and said he could have one of his guys clean it up but dh had already gone back to work and taken the vehicle with him so that was not really possible ... not that I would want one of those that did to do the cleaning anyway. Temperature got up to 50 today and I was able to hire a neighbor boy to clean it out for me for $40 ... cost for these tires has sure added up! Extra money and extra aggrevation ... will not go back there.

Service manager stated it would take 45 mins. It took almost two hours. The cost was out rageous, and to add insult to injury when I was walking back I saw EVERY service bay had ZERO activity in them, one grease monkey was asleep on a chair! When I went in to ask (after an hour of waiting) I was told it shouldn't be much longer. I milled around in the store, and after an hour I walked back, asked the manager if it was ready and he shuffled a few papers on his counter, then said, "Hey, you're in luck, your paperwork was just dropped off." I didn't tell him I'd been observing his 'desk' for over 15 mins and didn't see anyone from the 'work' area come in. Avoid this place at all costs!
Description of Work: Battery needed to be replaced, I asked them to check the alternator as well (just in case). The car needed a jump, and the battery was indicating a lower charge on the dash as well.

Very poorly. Service department manager called 40 minutes after leaving truck and reported that the leaks were coming from transmission cooler and brake lines and stated that he would not allow any work on the truck until the brake lines were replaced. I told him that the rear brake lines had been replaced recently and the fronts passed state inspection in January, 2010. Also told him that I had observed - and reported to the service writer - that the fluid leak was coming from the line leading from the power steering reservoir to the pump and that I had filled the reservoir twice since the day before. He adamantly insisted that the brake lines and the transmission cooler were the culprits and asked me to come to the store to see for myself. I told Dave that I fully expected he and his staff to show me how the fluid from the transmission cooler could flow UPHILL to the power steering reservoir when I got there. He called back 30 minutes later and reported that he and several technicians had looked at the truck again and determined that my version was correct - the line coming from the reservoir had corroded and caused 'most of the leak.' He said that he would call Ford to see if the lines were still available or if alternate repair processes could be recommended. He insisted again that the brake lines needed to be replaced before any other work would be done. I told him I'd be at the store in the morning as he had requested. When I arrived the next day I learned that Dave was off and that Josh would take me back to see the truck. After a brief discussion to review the prior day's events, Josh took me back to the last bay where my truck was on the lift. He pointed out the steering lines where they connected to the pump and said that Dave had not called Ford before leaving the day before to learn of availability, etc.. Josh stated that Dave's primary concern was the brake lines - they were rusted and Dave apparently feared they would leak when I was pulling out of their shop. When we looked at the front brake lines together, neither of us saw anything to be worried about. Josh then said that Dave was talking about the rear brake line and pointed to a rusty old tube on the inside of the frame. I told Josh - as I had told Dave the evening before - that the rear line had been replaced within the last two years - Josh was able to confirm that there was a new line in place and stated that no repairs were needed to any of the brake lines. Josh agreed to get me a price on the repair of the power steering line. He called later and reported price of parts and labor to be around $180 but that the truck would not be ready until Friday. I authorized the repairs. When Josh called Friday afternoon to report that the truck was ready, he told me that the final bill was around $225. I responded that this amount was not what he had quoted earlier - he then stated that he had FORGOTTEN TO TELL ME ABOUT A $25.00 LEAK EVALUATION CHARGE! They expect me to pay for their flawed 'LEAK EVALUATION?' This is actually the 3rd serious problem we've had with this store - I brought another vehicle in last year and was told brake repairs were needed to the tune of about $700.00. The service desk staff failed to 'recognize' the warranty details for the brakes that were clearly in their computer. I sense that this store has fallen into the practice of fishing for revenue by reporting needed repairs with the assumption that the customer doesn't know what they are talking about. CORRECTION: The 'Fluid Leak Evaluation Fee' actually totaled $34.99 - $29 for the 'evaluation' and $5.99 for "oil dye." What a rip off! All they had to do was open the hood and look at the lines coming from the power steering reservoir to see the leak. This fee was ultimately cancelled by the service department manager.
Description of Work: Brought 1997 F-150 in for repairs to leak in power steering lines.
