The contractor that did the work on our house was responsible for putting in new wood trim around our new windows as part of his overall estimate. He obtained the woodworker, Mr. Stiner, for us. We had heard nothing but good things about his work and his perfectionism. While showing him the work that needed done on our windows, we decided to have extra trim put in the rooms, which would be at our expense and not the contractors. We also had a more expensive trim put around the windows, with us agreeing to pay the difference between the standard trim and the more detailed trim. But the contractor was to incur the basic installation charge. We got an estimate for the entire job. A few times Mr Stiner did not show up when expected, so I placed calls to get a definite scheduled date of arrival. When he did arrive with a crew of workers, they stayed until the job was done. The work appeared to be done nicely, but upon inspection of the windows, I noticed gaps between the wood trim and the window frame on several windows. Two of the windows had gaps as much as a half inch or more. I telephoned him to ask why the trim was not placed flush against the wall and he stated because of the way the windows were put in. I said it was not acceptable and wanted that gap filled in. He stated that it would simply take too long and be too expensive to eliminate the gap and that no one would notice it anyway, being that it was up so high. I said I would know and wanted something put in there. I assumed this expense should go to the contractor as he was the one that put the windows in. He stated he would return to put some spacers in. I also stated that one board was missed being nailed down, as well as multiple nail holes were not filled in. They returned to fill in the nail holes and nail down the missed board, as well as check out the spacing and decide how it could be fixed. After they left, and upon inspecting the nail holes, I noticed satin "swipe" marks on the glossy trim. I called him back to ask him what those marks were. He stated when they filled in the nail holes, the crew did not wipe the excess filler off and it could be removed with oil. I stated we wanted all those wiped off. It was several weeks to months before he returned to put the fillers behind the window trim, as well as to remove the "swipe" marks off the trim. I was at work when most of this was done. Upon returning home, I inspected the windows and the nail holes. The gaps behind the window trim was not filled in and some of the swipe marks were still left on the trim. The one was in a big archway and is very noticable when walking by. I did not call him back and was very disappointed with the service he provided. The work looks beautiful when you first see it, but when you look closely on several areas, you can see it wasn't done the way it should have been.
