I hired James Rippy (also DBA James Rippy Home Improvement Center) to put a new roof on my rental property. The house sat vacant for years and the roof and box gutters were in very poor condition. He said that it wasn?t a problem, and that he had a team of eight guys and could have it finished in three weeks. The very first day I received a cease and desist letter from the City because he did not obtain the necessary permits before starting work- something he assured me he would do. After that, I didn?t see him or his crew there for weeks. As the three weeks were ending he requested an extension, then another, then another. It is now week seven and he has not even completed half of the job. Also, he left a huge mess at the property that I now need to clean up (even though he also assured me that he would keep a clean worksite). I had an independent roofer assess the work that was done, and he informed me that it was such a poor job, that it would need to be completely re-done. I gave James Rippy half of the money up front for materials. I never saw more than a few packages of shingles and nail strips at the property, and now there are no materials on site at all. We agreed on a specific higher end shingle yet he used two different brands (one of lesser quality) that didn?t even match in color! I now need to pay someone else to fix his mistakes and finish the job. Basically I am back to square one, and he has over $5K of my money. In addition, I am losing potential rental income by the day.

I am suing James Rippy for non-completion of contracted labor of an addition to our deck. The deck had to be redone by another contractor and he still is in possession of the vehicle that was transferred in his name and he took possession of.
Description of Work: He was contracted to build a deck to specifications. We agreed to trade his labor for a 1994 Cadillac. The title was transferred in good faith and after that he stopped work on the deck. Materials where taken and he returned and stole another contractors tools/equipment. He made threatning phone calls and the work was done totaly wrong. The new contractor had to remove all work (if you want to call it that) and start over. The new contractor states that he knows nothing about building a deck in accordance with code.

He is not bad on the plastering but everything else he is. He masked up a house with duct tape. He was sloppy the whole way around. He had some clowns working for him. Everyone walked around with a telephone and didn't pay attention to what they were doing.
Description of Work: I had him remodel part of our farmhouse. He did plastering on walls and he did interior painting.

Could not do anything right, had to repair all roofing, electrical, plumbing, kitchen installation, floor installation, and repaint all of home. Should not be in the home repair business.
Description of Work: Claimed to be able to completely rehab a house from electrical, plumbing, roofing, painting, and general repair.
