In the initial phone call the receptionist took all my information and said an estimator would get back to me. I received a call from the estimator but after a little over a week and 4 phone calls later (2 to estimators cell phone, 2 to company receptionist) I was never able to get anyone to return my calls. With this in mind I would certainly not want to enter in to a contract with this company as the customer service was severely lacking.
Description of Work: No work done because I could not get anyone to return my calls.

Sundeleaf did a great job for a fair price. Sam Sundeleaf made several trips to the paint store to try different stains on cedar shingles in an affort to help us match the color with our existing shingles. He recommended a stain product that provides good UV protection and is available in a stain color that we wanted. The Sundeleaf crew showed up on time and although they were delayed for a couple of days by rain they completed the job in a timely fashion. They were very conscientious about protecting our plants and shrubs and thoroughly cleaned up after the job was finished. What impressed me most was a crew member showed up on the Monday after they completed the job and spent a couple of hours cleaning up trim and touching up areas that had absorbed all of the stain. Great attention to detail. Our shingles look great. We would definitley use Sundeleaf again.

I had heard great things about this painting company, especially in regards to lead paint abatement. Since I have a 1 year daughter I was especially concerned about this in choosing a good painting contractor. Unfortunately Sundleaf never called me back despite attempts to contact them through their website and leaving a message at their offices. Two strikes and you're out in my book.

Sam Sundeleaf, the owner of Sundeleaf Painting, kept emphasizing he did "detailed work" on the phone with me. Apparently, he forgot a certain big detail with my project in that he never got back to me with a bid after his visit. He never even did me the courtesy of calling me back to let me know that he'll pass on my project. Please don't waste your time soliciting a bid from Sundeleaf unless you would like to be treated in an unprofessional manner.
Description of Work: Sundeleaf did not perform any services. Please see my explanation below.

Sam Sundeleaf came over the same day I contacted the company to give an estimate. Good listener, helpful. Worked out an estimate on his laptop before he left. Painter Nemorio started the next Monday. It is impossible to say enough good things about this painter -- he was quiet, punctual, a good communicator, incredibly efficient, absolutely immaculate and an awesomely skilled guy. In our bathroom, he did doors and trim in oil base that turned out impeccable. Even careful of my cat! But you should see the clean edges on these accent walls, and the beautiful job he did on wall repairs. When I added a few things to the job, I asked Sam to add another man to get things done while my husband was out of town -- no problem. Really a remarkable job. I've had cheaper painters but they've always done cheaper jobs. . ...
I received bids from 7 different companies for this job, ranging from $5500 to $21,000. Sundeleaf was not the highest nor the lowest. The reason I picked Sundeleaf was not the price, but the professionalism and knowledge of the owner, Sam, who gave us the bid. He came out to the house 4 times before we made a decision. The first was to quickly look over the job while he was on his way to another job in the neighborhood. The second time, he did all of the measuring and answered questions from us, including a lot about the lead paint removal, which they don't do. That was a big deal. But unlike the other companies who gave us the number of a lead paint remover to call, Sam not only gave us their name, then he called himself and made an appointment with them to look at the house, AND he came back out with them. THAT was impressive and saved us a lot of time. Finally, he came back out a fourth time to present his bid. This was going to be the sales hammer, I was sure. Why couldn't he just email it like the others? Nope, he said he wanted to go over the estimate and the contract and answer any questions on the spot. And that's exactly what he did. None of the "lets sign this today", or "what do I have to do to get your business?" or "what do you need to think about?". He didn't even ASK us to sign a contract or make a decision. What he did do was answer questions, cover the contract in detail, and ended with something along the lines of "call me when you have made a decision". We knew in a second we had found our painting company. How did it go after that? Superb. They told me the name of the man who would be in charge of the project, Mario, and wrote it down on a paper with contact information, and room for the names of the other painters that would come in on different days. When they came, the first thing they did was cover the garage floor with plastic in case anything spilled while they were storing their supplies there, and the first box they brought into the garage was a bright yellow one with emergency supplies in case of an accident or fall. Thankfully, they never had to dig into that box. Mario worked almost a week on prep work alone after the lead paint was removed, and it looked like he was working on his own house. Never rushing through to get it done. Being meticulous with every detail; sanding down the rough spots and filing all the holes and cracks in the siding, which was really beat up and weathered. Some of the boards they even replaced. They showed up early and on time every day. (Before they began they asked what time we would like them to start in the mornings.) They let us know what they were going to be working on the next day. Mario answered questions before they were even asked. Nobody said a word when we decided (after the primer coat was applied on one side of the house) to change the color and make it darker. It was not a problem. Nothing ever seemed to be a problem for them. And no surprises at the end with "well we hadn't expected this and it will cost extra...." All in all, it was a much bigger job than I had imagined and yet took only a bit longer to finish than I had originally expected. But the work done was nothing short of spectacular and if we ever have anything that needs to be painted in the future, inside or out, Sundeleaf painting will be the only one we will bother to call. They were that good. And the house looks absolutely beautiful.

The work went very well. They spent a week prepping, priming and painting the house. The other companies anticipated taking any where from 2 to 3 days for the job, whereas Sundeleaf put that much time into prepping the house. I got a full 5 plus from this company for the full job. They were punctual and worked steadily. I appreciate their thoroughness and attention to detail. When I was not happy with how the paint looked on the metal security door, they came back and redid it. I would definately use them again.
Description of Work: They painted the exterior of the house including a metal security door and a detached shed. I chose them over the other bids for several reasons. Sam spend a lot of time with me while doing the estimate and when we signed the final papers. He explained exactly what they were going to do and why. The work that was proposed was more thorough than the other companies that I had gotten estimates from (I got 5 other estimates in addition to this one). When I called their references, I heard the same thing repeatedly -- although they were more expensive, they were thorough, very focused on details and came back quickly to address any concerns. And, that it was the best painting experience they have had with a painting company.

They painted some book shelves that were very tricky to do. They just came in and nothing was too hard for them. They didn?t argue about how they were going to do it. They just did it well and did it quickly. They weren?t exorbitantly priced. They were reasonably priced and in line with the other bids that I got. The owner was fantastic. The guy who came to paint was pleasant. I would use them again in future.

They were very professional and they cleaned up everyday. The quality of work was so good, it was perfect and it couldn't be better. Punctuality was great. They showed up and left on schedule. There is nothing bad about them and their price was competitive.
Description of Work: They painted our interior of our entire house including the ceilings and some drywall and did some trim work. (4 or 5 different colors) They also did some trial walls to see what they would look like in the process of choosing colors.

Sam Sundeleaf came to bid on the project and first sat down with me to ask what I would consider a good experience and outcome. It's the first time a contractor has asked me how I would measure success. The bid involved the option of painting only the damaged portion of the kitchen cabinetry and wood counter trim (which was all peeling), or all of the kitchen cabinetry. It was less expensive to do the partial kitchen, but there was the issue of color matching. I had another cheaper bid for the entire kitchen, but didn't trust the quality level of that vendor -- who refused to do just the damaged cabinets because he said it would be impossible to match the paint and have it blend in. I asked Sam whether he really thought he could match the paint. He offered to try and let me approve the match before signing the contract or paying anything. Sam took two doors with him to match. The first match wasn't good. He ended up taking a couple of weeks and I was a little concerned it was taking so long and whether it was going to work, but on the next match we were close enough that I approved the project; Sam said they'd try one more time to get the match even closer and bring that paint when they started the job. I was assigned a head foreman and an assistant painter. The foreman gave me a sheet with his contact info including after-hours numbers in case we had any concerns. They put up two paint samples, and then removed all the cabinet fronts and doors to paint them off-site: they have a spray shop which is SO much easier that having all that work done on-site. They spent the rest of the day doing prep work on the wood trim that needed sanding. When the samples had dried we picked the better color match, and it is a pretty exact match (i.e., no one can tell which cabinets were re-painted). They spent the next three days finishing the job, which included some extra touch-up I requested on a few other spots around the kitchen, and it all looks great. My only complaint is that more drop cloths should have been used; not only was some dirt tracked into the entry and back hall, but I had to point out a few paint drips on the floors, which they removed. That all could have been easily avoided with more drop cloths. After they were finished we found some small paint drops around the kitchen sink area on the counter and faucet -- very tiny and we did not notice them until after the job was finished. To their credit, the foreman did give us ample time for inspection each day and offered to fix anything we found; we just missed these spatters and so did he. They're very small and I will probably remove them myself with a little paint thinner. Overall we were very happy with Sundeleaf Painting. The cabinets match and look great and they were very professional and easy to work with.
Description of Work: Repaired water-damaged cabinetry in kitchen and bathroom and painted to match other cabinetry in kitchen; also painted walls/ceiling of a bathroom's toilet enclosure.

AS I LIVE WITHIN 6 BLOCKS OF THIS COMPANY, I CALLED THEM FIRST TO GIVE ME AN ESTIMATE ON FINISHING/TOUCHING UP EXTERIOR PAINTING ON MY HOUSE. IT NEEDED TO BE DONE BEFORE WINTER. I REALIZE THAT THIS MAY BE TOO SMALL OF A JOB FOR THEM TO BE BOTHERED WITH, BUT NO ONE HAS BOTHERED TO EVEN RETURN MY CALL TO TELL ME THAT. I FIND THIS TO BE ALL TOO COMMON IN OREGON. IF YOU ARE PROVIDING A SERVICE, YOU NEED TO RESPECT YOUR CUSTOMERS ENOUGH TO RETURN THEIR CALLS! I WILL PROBABLY NOT CONSIDER THEM NOW FOR BIGGER PAINTING JOBS.
