The work turned out beautifully. It is one of my favorite things from my kitchen remodel. If I need stone work in the future, they will definitely be my first call.
Description of Work: Kathleen helped me find a specific color profile and size for marble remnants. They fabricated it to the exact size I needed and installed it to the table base I already had.

Kaileen in sales was incredibly helpful in deciding on layout, edges, etc. Measures and installers were always prompt, courteous, and skillful. Coutertops looked great. Service above and beyond expectation.

It went very well. Kaileen was so professional, but fun at the same time. They got our job done in no time. We love the final product too- soapstone counters that are beautiful and perfectly installed. I would HIGHLY recommend Portland Marble Works to anyone fixing up their home.

I worked with Kaileen to select the perfect remnant for my small counter. I brought in my box full of wallpaper, tile, and paint samples, and she was really wonderful at helping me find a slab that would work with my decorating scheme. As the process developed, and I unexpectedly needed to match a floor sample to my counter, she was there again with a good eye and good advice on choosing the flooring sample that would work well with the already chosen marble counter. I even brought in my tile and grout samples and received great design feedback for choosing a grout color. The craftsmen that measured and installed the counter were prompt, courteous, quick and professional. It was a really good experience all in all.
Description of Work: Measured, templated, cut, finished and installed a small marble counter in the bathroom.

We had to have the whole thing ripped out. It was terrible. The product was inferior and they provided terrible customer service. It was honed marble and the honing was done wrongly in the shop. They had to have somebody come out on site and rehone it. It was never done right, so we had to rip it off after paying them $15,000 for the countertop. I don't think there's anything that they can do at this point. I thought their representative, Joe Bayliss, was misrepresenting their product. She worked directly with Portland Marble Works and completely misrepresented the product, yet she got commission to sell it. They were expensive. The countertop wasn't scribed to the wall right. We ended up not paying the last $1500 of the bill. One of the owners, Dan, knew that. He knew that we were not paying the last $1500 because the marble was terrible. We could see the honing marks. They were unwilling and unable to fix it. They were very unprofessional and their workmanship and craftsmanship was terrible. They were also always late, which made other contractors get behind in their schedule. I would never use them again.
Description of Work: We used Portland Marble Works to install a countertop in the kitchen. They did the scribing and installing.

Response from PORTLAND MARBLE WORKS
Our reputation for treating our customers with respect and fairness is recognized through out the building community. It’s very troubling to read the enclosed review. It is not in our culture to walk away from a reasonable concern. It simply does not happen! The countertop surface in this particular case initially met with our in house quality control. The direct sunlight in the homeowners kitchen, unveiled a slight disruption of the surface & our company was quick to take action. We did not walk away from this homeowners concerns. After the site assessment it was determined that the best solution was to hire a well known restoration expert to resurface the counter. We offered up the best quality solution to this client and spared no expense to resolve this situation, because that was the correct thing to do. The resurfacing was successful and the countertop surface was brought up to our standards which far exceeds the industry standards. Once we received approval from our client and only then, did we close out this account. Portland Marble Works, Inc. has been in business for over 28 year and we have a very good reputation as one of the leading custom natural stone fabrication shops in Portland. We are also in good standings with our client base, because we continuously meet our scheduling commitments. With our years of experience in the field, our skilled craftsman in our shop, as well as the support from our educated showroom staff we are able to offer an exceptional product & service to our clientele. It is our policy to educate our clients before we install a delicate material like a marble in a kitchen environment. Many of our clients who have enjoyed their marble kitchens counters for years, embrace the patina that comes with daily use & do not have unrealistic expectations. In this case, we can only assume that additional surface issues were created long after we supplied a solution and our work had been approved. We are truly disappointed. Portland Marble Works, Inc.

Horrible. Countertop cracked within two weeks of installation. Floor was gouged in process. I felt the company refused to assume any responsibility for these issues and had very poor customer service. Neither owner of the company would talk to me or come to see the damage. This finally had to be mediated by the Construction Contractors Board to get resolved. I was very frustrated with the entire experience. The customer salesperson was very polite but had no authority to effect any resolution of the problem. This took over five months from the date of installation.

Response from PORTLAND MARBLE WORKS
We completed the installation of the Member counter tops on 3/15/06. The quality of the fabrication and installation on these counter tops was flawless. The Member was present the day of installation and was very pleased . We gave specific instruction not to install sink, cook top ect.. until the next day at the earliest, giving our mastic time to set up. approximetly Two hours after we left the job the Member called to tell us in the process of re-installing the sink her handyman chipped the Island . It is standard policy to inform our clients that no work should be performed on countertops for a minimum of 24 hours after installation. By not following these instructions the countertop installation could be compromised. When we completed the project and left the job site on 3/15/16, Member was at home and the countertops were not chipped or cracked. On 4/4/06 the crack by the cook top was reported. The crack in question is located on the island near the back corner of the cook top cut out. We can only conclude that our installation was compremised when the sink and cook top were installed with out the level of expertise needed in working with this specialty material. In refrence to the Members statement regaurding the picture frame and the hardwood floors. We believe this is irrelevant to her claim and can only be mentioned with the purpose of discrediting of this company. There fore our response is yes, we knocked the picture off the wall. We brought it to her attention, apologized, and offered to pay for a new frame. Without doubt or question we did not gouge her floor. The three installers from Portland Marble Works noticed this gouge shortly after arriving and certainly prior to moving the refrigerator. The refrigerator is on rollers which could not have gouged the floor. To prove this our crew reenacted the motion via rolling the refigerator in and out to show her the motion could not have caused the gouge. We cannot begin to understand how she determined that somehow we had caused the damage. To difuse the situation, we asked the Member to have a Hardwood floor professional look at it and get an estimate for repair. In hindsight, we made a mistake by offering to cover the cost of a repair that was clearly not our fault. I think that has set a precedant that has lead us down this road. We have always been sensitive to the Member situation. Many of us are homeowners. Yet the fact remains that there was nothing wrong with either our fabrication or installation.

Everyone we had come into contact with this company was very professional. The crew that came out to measure had this down to an art and has a very efficient use of time. The installation was done in a very timely manner and looked wonderful!
