I had used Larry's a few times before over the years and was always pleased and impressed with their technician and their service. This last job, all started well except that they brought the wrong door sweep. They called me the same day and told me the would bring out the correct door sweep and install it within a few days. I paid for the whole job of which the sweep was one small part (about $20 materials). However, after not hearing from them for a week, I called again. They said they had the part but didn't have me on the schedule and would correct it and be out in a couple days. Never showed. I called again. Now they said they didn't have the part but would in a couple days... Eventually started dealing with Larry himself. He said it would take 6 weeks before they would come out to my area again! I'm only 25 minutes from pdx. He was quarelsome, dishonest and belligerent to both myself and my wife when all we were asking was for them to install the part they made a mistake on and that we had already paid for. After about 3-4 weeks, we finally got them to come out and spend 10 minutes to correct their mistake. We didn't even mention how when without asking they put their obnoxious self promoting stickers on our garage wall. It took off a large chunk of paint when we removed it right by the door so we had to repaint. I think Brandon, their technician, is a great guy that knows what he's doing and is quick and professional. However, the company and the owner are dishonest and very unprofessional. There are too many other good companys to waste ones time dealing with Larry's.

The lady I spoke to on the phone at Larry Myers offered to send someone over to free the car from the garage but I declined. I called on a Friday and they were able to send someone over the next day on Saturday. The repairman arrived within the time window I was given. The door that was repaired doesn't seem quite right when closing. It seems to hang up a bit when the door is about a foot from being closed. The door opener slows down a bit during that last foot of travel. Possibly the spring is binding. It opens okay. I haven't called them yet.
Description of Work: My garage door torsion spring broke jamming the door shut. He replaced the spring and even was nice enough to adjust the tension on the other door's spring to balance it.

It went well. I was no to impressed with the responsiveness of the office. I will say that this all took place over the holidays. So I don't know when they were closed. But the work was done as promised when promised. Andy did a great job on the installation.

right on time for estimate and work completion. Installed in one day, sent me an invoice for payment and told me to pay when I felt completely satisfied. They wanted me to "take them for a test drive" so to speak to make sure I was happy with the work. High quality product, clean install.

They were recommended to me. They were on time. They did a great job. The price was better than the other company I got a bid from. Their price was right in the ballpark. We were happy with everything they did. The service was better than other companies. They even went the extra mile because he had to figure something in about our old doors. It was out of pocket for them to correct a job that another company did wrong. They told us that the spring on the door would get a little loose over time so they're coming out this afternoon to tighten the spring. They did the work efficiently and they're exactly what we wanted. We got a top of the line door.

The work was done to our satisfaction. Worker didn't leave until I was totally satisfied with the way the door worked. He dialed it in perfectly. I did have an issue with the scheduling though. I was leaving town and my time was tight, I didn't have the extra time that it took to finally get them out. It was a major inconvenience. I scheduled it twice and they were a no show, after the third try at it they finally got it right. It all turned out well in the end.

Called because my garage door was not working. The lady on the phone walked me through some solution to see if it could be fixed. When that did not work she sent an appointment for a repair man to come to the house. He showed up on time and found the issue a broken belt. He said he was confident he could fix it even though he had never seen a broken belt before. He found the part for $4 but said it would take a week to get it, cost $100 in labor to replace it as he had to take a part the whole thing apart to access the belt and he could not guarantee that was the only problem. He suggested a new opener. The idea of buying a new opener when it only needed a new $4 belt seemed a little crazy but my garage door was in need of some serious help and my husband was trying to repair something on it with super glue last year so I figured I would get it fixed right and have a warranty so I would not have to worry about it. Not only did I get a new opener He fixed my sloping door by adding a metal support beam to it. Also he moved the opener guide so it would open better and my door no longer slams into the ground when it closes. He even helped me program the key pad and took the time to explain everything to me. The new opener is nice and quiet. Very professional.
Description of Work: Installed a new garage door opener with 2 remotes and keypad. Also added a metal beam to support the door and moved the guide to the correct position so the door would open better.

Garage door opener broke on Friday the 13th!! Perused Angies List & found favorable reviews for Larry Meyers, now I know why. After speaking to Larry on the phone he sent one of his techs to assess the job requirements. Was given a firm estimate, unfortunatley for me they couldn't do the job until the 18th. Two techs showed up on time and got the job done quiclkly. We are very pleased.

Well, I was surprised and initially pleased that Larry himself appeared for the estimate, which was handled extremely quickly. So quickly that if I hadn't already known some of the details from another estimate, I might have been left in the dark about some things, but since I did know details, I didn't worry. I think it was the fact that the bid was slightly lower than one I had gotten previously coupled with the fact that he had obviously been in the business quite awhile that sold me on using his company. However, there was a slight mixup with the date agreed upon (though it was easily resolved) and then they sent one person to do the job (Adrian, who did a fantastic, careful job), when two were expected, so the job took all day. I had a question afterwards, and Larry came out very promptly - but he acted like a doctor who had a whole list of patients to see that day - didn't even let me finish my sentence about my concern before he jumped in with "I know what the problem is....". Told me to wait and see if it solves itself by October, then call him again if it doesn't. So, I have mixed feelings about this company. Think it was a competent business, and know they are busy, but a slower pace might result in better attention to detail and customer service. Price was definitely right, and the product does work very well. Extremely pleased with the work that the installer, Adrian did. Update as of 8/2013: Very surprised to have received a phone call from Larry immediately after posting this review. Though disappointed with my review, he did thank me for my input and seemed very eager to make sure I knew he was sorry he had seemed hurried, and that even though he is a busy guy, he realizes that maybe a few more minutes spent might not be a bad idea. After this call, i felt it was appropriate to upgrade my rating.

I initially emailed them with a description of what I wanted: replace old single car garage door with a new one, uninsulated, manually operated, with windows with obscured glass. The estimator lady gave me an estimate for an insulated door with plain glass. I later realized these mistakes and had the estimate changed. The price seemed pretty good -- I considered installing the door myself, but with all the hassle, it seemed like a good deal to have it professionally done. I was told the installer would be there in the morning on the day of the install. By afternoon, he still hadn't showed up. I called them and they said he'd be over in something like 30 minutes; he arrived something like 60-90 minutes later. He ended up having to come back two more times to finish the job. Each time, he said he'd be back tomorrow, but didn't show up, then we'd call, and he'd finally show up the next day. Each time I talked to him, he complained about having a bad day. I'm sorry if he was having trouble in his personal life, or whatever it was that was troubling him, but it was not a very professional interaction. Each time, he just sort of appeared and disappeared without saying anything. I had to go out and introduce myself. The lock installation in particular was done quite badly. The cables were installed in such a way that they slip and grind through the rear side of the T-handle as you rotate the handle. I'm a young healthy man and it made me feel like I had arthritis trying to twist that thing. The latch mechanism on one side also required a hard "slam" to get it to close/lock. Eventually, after a month of this annoying behavior (but telling myself, "hey, maybe it's normal"), the door got stuck while I was slamming it. When I finally got it unstuck, I looked at the latches to figure out if I could do something about it. The little flipper things that hook into the latches were installed very sloppily. One is a quarter inch in from the edge of the door, while the other is hanging off the side of the door a little bit. They're both obviously crooked. Because one was installed so far out, the lever mechanism required more force to push over the latch on the track. This is why I had to slam the door. I filed these parts down a little (not too much) and now it's pretty smooth. I also completely re-did the cable installation so that it actually pulls the cables, instead of grinding against them. Now the handle is very easy to turn. Another sloppy thing I noticed was the little plastic handle at the bottom of the door is noticeably crooked. Was this guy drunk? Did he just not care? Was he over-worked? I don't know, and I guess it's not really my place to know. I just know that he represents his company, and he represented them quite poorly. Update: The owner followed up with me after this review was posted. He gave a very sincere apology and insisted that my poor experience was not acceptable, and that he is taking measures to make sure it doesn't happen again. He was very genuine and was actually thanking me repeatedly for the honest review. He also sent a bit of money back to make amends. I was very impressed by his response. He had a great attitude about the whole thing, and clearly he sets high standards, and was sorry that they weren't met in this instance.

One of the springs on our garage door broke Saturday evening, trapping our cars inside. I talked to the company Sunday morning and scheduled an appointment for Monday morning between 9:30 and 10:00. Doug called at about 9:30 and said he was on his way and would be here in about 30 minutes. He replaced the springs, lubricated the door parts as necessary and even fixed our sticky front door. He was done by 10:30. The price was exactly as quoted. I was very pleased.

Description of Work: Called to ask if they repaired the brand of door remote that I have. They indicated they did. Set up an appointment that for the next day. The service man showed up on time. After looking at my system he indicated that he could not work on the door opener nor my wireless remote as his company did not work with this brand. He then spent time helping me work to reset my remote by reading my manuals. He gave me the name of the company who worked on The brand of opener that I have. He did not charge me for his time nor advice.

A couple of months back, I called Larry Myer's Garage door to come out to inspect and service (tune-up) our garage door and move the sensors closer to the floor. Larry Myers himself came out, and while he wasn't the most personable person I've met, I was happy with how prompt he worked, and I seemed OK with the job he'd done. I don't recall exactly what the bill was, but I believe it was around $100. The next day, however, I came home from work to find our garage door wide open. It had been open all afternoon, as my wife took off before noticing it close all the way. I looked at the brackets and track, and noticed that the brackets were pressing on the track, causing some warping and impeding the door from closing all the way. When the door hit it, it would re-open. I called up Larry Myers and told him (he answered the phone) what I saw. He told me sternly, and with little explanation, that I was wrong and that couldn't be the problem. I must have caught him on a bad day. I'm not a garage door expert, but it was pretty obvious to me what the problem was. Rather than argue with a man who does this for a living, I swallowed my pride and he quickly offered to send one of his workers out the next day to look at it. Now, having worked in various customer-facing jobs, I'd probably handle the situation a little more courteously rather than risk the loss of future business, but that's me. The next day, one of his workers came out (Craig I believe?) and was fantastic. He adjusted the brackets, which fixed the problem. He showed me where they were impeding the travel of the door, which is exactly what I had thought the problem was. He also tightened-up the loose tracks that was missed the first time around and made sure everything was tight, greased and inspected. Would I ever do business with Larry Myers Garage Doors again? Probably not, but if I did, I'd have someone other than Larry come out. I don't need a contractor to be friendly or personable, but I DO need them to get the job done. His employee came out and not only fixed the problem, but handled a few other maintenance items on the door that I had just expected would have been done the first time, but weren't (tightening the tracks, for example).

I have a rental property in OR and was referred to this company by a friend before I joined Angie's list. I left a message for them to call me back to schedule an appointment for a possible repair. They worked with my tenant to schedule a time to come out and determined that there was an issue with the sensor. The total cost to repair was the service call charge - $75. I'm happy - my tenant is happy and all is right in world of my garage. Would definitely recommend this company. They could have easily told me anything to make me believe there were major issues and charged a ton since I am clear across the company. Thanks!!!

Our garage door when activated would raise slightly then go back down. I called this company due to the good reviews on Angie's List and the nice lady on the phone asked me to go into the garage and was able to point me to the problem. A broken spring. We organized an appointment with a 2 hour window. The technician arrived 30 minutes into the time window and was very informative about garage doors and friendly. He said the other spring would likely break soon too. They have a six to eight year life depending on how often you open and close your garage door. Our house is 8.5 years old so we were right on schedule. He replaced both springs and applied lubricants to the garage door mechanisms. From the initial phone call to the work being completed, there were no problems and I would use this company again.

Excellent experience! I sent an email from Angie's list the evening that my garage spring broke and received a phone call the very next morning. I was scheduled at my convenience. He came out and replaced the springs. My garage door was making noise so he took care of the rollers. When it was still making noise, he replaced the cable. It was all done quickly, professionally, and the garage door is working very well. I highly recommend this company!
