BUT price was about double what the repairs/maintenance would normally cost.
5.7 hrs labor at typical $84/hr shop cost = $479
Cost at Crabtree = $807, which translates to $142/hr shop cost.
Timing belt kit w/ water pump (typical): Around $200
at Crabtree: $373
OEM Thermostat: $25
at Crabtree: $41
Add in $95 fee for diagnostics and some other miscellany, and the Crabtree price came to $1295, compared with AutoMD estimated shop price of $622. The lower price also comports with estimates I've seen in mechanics' discussion groups online.
Before ordering the work, I asked about the high price. The answer was something along the lines of, and quot;We are definitely not the cheapest in town. But the quality of our work and our great customer service make up for it.and quot;
I have always used the Toyota dealerships for my normal checkup and work and it always has cost me over $200 or $300. I'm not saying Toyota is dishonest, just that this family owned business didn't try to sell me extra things or add on stuff that really wasn't needed. They gave me advice and were friendly, courteous and knowledgable.
The office is nicely decorated, coffee on hand while you wait and the website is really great for feedback, making appointments online and checking out what they do. But of course, the main thing is that service is good, fast and fair.
