Ray the Painter

He was prompt with the estimate, but we decided to go with someone else.

It went well. He was very professional, quick and on time. He cleaned up after himself and it was a nice experience. I would use him again.

The service turned out great. The price was a little on the high end, but after the work was completed I felt it was worth it. They were extremely professional. They were also environmentally friendly. They quality of their work was notch. We were very pleased with their service.

We chose a different vendor.

The painters did a great job, my husband and I were very pleased and we definitely will be using them again in the future.

They matched the color real well. They were real friendly and did a good job. They put plastic down and taped so as not to ruin the walls and covered the furniture.

As always the estimator came promptly but it took several weeks to start the job. The women sent was very professional, knew what she was doing, did her job very well and made our kitchen look beautiful. She knew she could not finish the job in two days by herself, so pushed for a help mate on the second day and both stayed about an hour overtime to finish the job on time. Both of them worked very hard and were pleasant and courteous.

I really liked him. He was excellent; awesome. He did quite a bit. The quality of the work stood out. He was efficient and prompt. He did everything he said he was going to do and he followed through.

Lynn Brueggemann arrived promptly at 8:10 am for an 8:30 appointment-so far so good. He quickly began to measure and determine areas of painting and prep work involved. After about an hour we sat and discussed his findings and a little about his company and their painting practices. He assured me of insurance coverage and said I could call the office for needed verification.(It would have been nice if he came with a copy of Certificate of Insurance with types and limits of coverage). In short order Lynn provided me with a verbal ballpark estimate and said he will e-mail me a written estimate with details that would be within +/- $100 of the ballpark estimate which was for $6700. My house had been painted twice before and each time for well under half of Ray the Painter's bid. I did say to Lynn that he "took my breath away" with that high a bid. Lynn was true to his word and e-mailed the estimate later the same day however the $6700 increased to $6900. I began to read through the estimate, all the while wondering why so costly. I began to get angry when I realized there was no way to reconstruct the bid based on the amount of paint required or any kind of breakdown for labor costs but rather just a bunch of individual charges for each separate area as loosly measured or eyeballed by Lynn. One half page of the 5 page bid / contract was devoted to a listing of areas on the left and cost per area on the right. The other 4 pages was language written for any kind of work project for Ray the Painter's firm only with several "GOTCHA" statements for additional possible charges noted as "additional repairs,necessary repairs, unforeseen conditions, color changes, any desired task changes, etc. etc. No wonder more than one of the previous reviewers thought Ray the Painter was not only expensive but more costly than anticipated. The "frosting on the cake" or more like "straw that broke the camel's back" was the written method of payment--1/3 down and progress payments for all jobs over $10,000. My research indicated some smaller companies might require a 15-20% down upfront payment for materials but most larger, reputable firms require only one payment at the completition of the job. To me, signing Ray the Painter's bid / contract was more like signing a blank check !! NO THANKS and let the buyer beware.

I'm completely satisfied. They were prompt and efficient, and did an excellent job. I know it was a challenge. As unexpected problems arose, they effectively handled every situation quickly and easily. They nearly finished the job working July 2 and 3, but they even returned on July 4, to be able to wrap up the job. They did a great job prepping the exterior wood and painting. There were some high weeds near the house that would have prevented painting in those spots -- so they even mowed as needed. Their initial estimate was the highest I received, but was professionally presented and, reading through the items covered, it was also the most thorough in addressing the aged exterior. It was well worth the money, and I will certainly return to them with any other paint needs.

I was never contacted. It is terrible for any company, let alone a locally-based business, to be so unreliable. Oklahoma weather is not known to be predictable or conducive for outdoor painting, and we were on a strict timeline to get the job completed. We ended up visiting one of the large home-improvement stores in our town and asking for a word-of-mouth recommendation for a local painter. We could not have been happier with their recommendation. Many local home-improvement contractors are tremendously backlogged due to the devastating tornadoes of May 18-20 in central Oklahoma. All it would have taken was for Ray the Painter to reply to our query in a timely fashion and, if applicable, let us know that they are backlogged like every other legitimate contractor. To this day (one month after our first message), we have not heard a word from them via e-mail, fax, phone, regular mail, or otherwise.

Ray did an awesome job with our master and hallway bathrooms. He was very meticulous and detailed in his work. He gave us a time frame of two weeks to complete the job. He finished right at two weeks. We love our bathrooms!!!!

The girls arrived on time (even with bad weather) both days. They did an excellent job of taping around the trim & doors. It only took them 1 & 1/2 day to get the job done. They were very sweet & very professional. They had me check everywhere they painted to make sure I was satisfied with their work, & I was extremely satisfied. They did a great job of cleaning up after they finished. Another thing I liked about " Ray the Painter" was when I received the estimate they broke up the bid for each room. This was especially great because you could have part of the work done now, and the rest at your convenience.

After the intial bid came in, I felt the price was a little on the high end, but ultimately chose Ray the Painter based on others' reviews and referrals. Due to the high price, I admit that I had high expectations for superior quality. However, this is where the company fell short of my expectations. The painter broke a door stop in the bedroom and did not repair. He also failed to remove screws and fill holes, which was agreed upon prior to beginning the job. There was also paint tracked through my hallway and entryway wood floors, which I had to scrape off after the job was complete. The walls were adequately covered in paint, the trim looked fantastic, and the end product was good. However, the lack of attention to detail is the reason for my "C" grading for Quality. I will note that the responsiveness and professionalism of the sales representative was EXCELLENT. Unfortunately, this professionalism was not upheld by the painters themselves.

Everything went exactly as scheduled. Price was exactly as estimated but seemed high. Work was very well done. I had to call to remind them to rehang bathroom mirror after everything was dry.

They discussed all paint colors, were punctual, respectful of our property, clean and pleasant. They did exactly what was described in the paint contract.

The end result was great. They were a bit lax in keeping me informed about scheduling. But, in the end, I am extremely pleased with the looks and, once they started work, they stayed with it, even through the heat wave, and knocked it out in two days (2500 S.F. house).

The fact that Lynn showed up 5 minutes early was a first in my experience with a painter. The reason I am taking the time to write this review is because I was so impressed by their professionalism. Over the past two years, dealing with the results of two hail storms and all of the workmen that go with the repairs, it is very unusual to find a business with this quality of service. As a matter of fact, I let this paint job go for over a year, because two other businesses did not show up to give me a bid. I have discovered Angie's List and my life concerning workmen has changed. Josh was assigned to my paint job, because of the wood grain matching to an interior door. He arrived three mornings in a row early and completed the paint job. I examined the final results, which needed some tweeking, both Lynn and Josh returned within hours and they perfected the final paint job. The work was excellent.

It was an excellent job. We had used several different painters for the other parts of the house, and we noticed about them that they did better prep work. They taped off everything and we had no drips or dribbles on the floors. I had to leave me handicap mom at home alone with them and I was not afraid to leave her while they were there working. They guys who came were really nice men.

It was a little too expensive and I didn’t use them. I would like to mention, though, that they came out on time and they were very courteous.

We received the estimate, thought it was a little high but decided to go with them anyway and then at the last minute they backed out of the job. Said it was too small of a job and would not be profitable for them. They actually did us a favor because we had other estimates done and both were over half less than Ray the Painters bid.

They weren't my favorite. They were expensive, they had to return back to fix something, and the paint is already chipping.

The painter showed up on time and took his time giving the door several coats-absolutely no mess and everything was put back in place. The work is awesome!
