Tendon replacement surgery April 15 took an hour as an outpatient. 4 weeks later my cast was replaced with a walking cast I expect to graduate to a boot in a few days. I dreaded this surgery but this team made it somewhat bearable.
Description of Work: After being mis-diagnosed by several orthopedic practices, Orthopedic Foot and Ankle accurately diagnosed a torn ligament. Everyone in this practice is professional, friendly and concerned about the patient. I have recommended this organization to everyone I talk to.

I saw Dr. Swan for tingling in my feet that had been going on for several months. She gave me an rx for B12 (without testing my levels- as tested later by another doctor, they were fine), night splints and orthotics. The orthotics were from the shop next door where you walk on a pad and they make them based on that. None of these recommendations solved the problem. I was diagnosed with uneven hips which was causing other muscles to try and compensate. I have been in physical therapy with good results. I also have and quot;realand quot; orthotics that have worked well to keep my ankles from shifting inward. I felt that Dr. Swan just guessed at what was wrong and didn't really spend the time putting the symptoms together to get a correct diagnosis.

After exam and MRI, Dr. Lee recommended surgery for Morton's Neuroma. I had the surgery and was put in a boot for a couple weeks. Then during my next check up told him I was still feeling the same sensations (pain and numbness) and he put me in a cast up to my knee for 3 weeks. LONGEST 3 weeks of my life. When cast taken off absolutely no improvement. Ultimately he said let's just see how it goes. Never any improvement. I had to go to another doctor, have the same surgery again and have more nerve tissue removed (this was not a stump neuroma). The second doctor told me the second surgery should never have been needed if the first one done correctly.

Mr. Thomas Lee is an fantastic surgeon. He has done 4 ankle surgeries on me. I am still able to walk and be active (somewhat pain free). I've been with the Orthopedic Foot and Ankle Center since 2002 and couldn't ask for better care. They have always been there for me.
Description of Work: I had ankle surgery 2 /2 yrs ago and thought I was having problems again. Dr Lee was extremely happy with how my ankle healed and recommended an ankle brace to wear when active.

I had a great experience at the Orthopedic Foot and Ankle Center on Polaris Parkway. I saw Mr. Philbin, and he was wonderful. All of the staff and team members I came into contact with were very helpful and I have made a complete recovery from my injury.
Description of Work: I sprained my ankle just before Thanksgiving last year, and went to the Orthopedic Foot & Ankle Center on Polaris Parkway. They were able to get me in the same day to look at my injury. The doctors I saw did a great job, and were very helpful in explaining the entire process.

Long, painful recovery with infection in one of the incisions that lasted 8 months. Surgeon was one of the Podiatric Fellows and each time I went to the office for a cast change or follow up visit, I saw a different doctor. Each one had a different opinion and didn't seem to be very interested in helping an old lady get back on her feet. Since then a year and a half has passed with two other doctor opinions and I still experience nerve pain and stiffness..

The first time he inserted several screws and one broke. The second atempt he put a rod through my heel up through my ankle and leg bone. After the operation when i got back to my room he told me he had to cut a half inch off my leg.Several months later the rod was backing out through my heel he said the fussion was good and he would remove the rod.We he visited me in my room he told me he desided to insert another rod in and had cut another half nch off my leg leaving me with one leg shorter than the other.During my follow up office visit i asked him why he had cut an inch off my leg instead of useing a cadaber bone to make up the one inch space and was told it was a last minute decission he made in the operating room. Now i have to have all my right side shoe sent out to be built up the one inch

I Went to get a second opinion for a surgery that was given by another doctor. I had reason to believe that the previous doctor gave me a surgery that should have only been given in extreme cases. My hope was that it could be reversed before the bones that were fused could fully heal. The doctor providing the second opinion was very kind and helpful although he had to give me disappointing news that the surgery that had been previously performed could not be reversed. They explained what had been done in detail and told me what I should likely consider doing to better support my foot since my foot would now be this way forever. They agreed to continue to see and recommended physical therapy to aid in the healing and better removal,of scar tissue.

So overall, I DEFINATELY WOULD NOT EVER RECOMMEND DR. Lee to anyone one to use. I have called on 100s of Dr.s (for my job) for over 25 years and I have only had two Doctors that were SO arrogant.....and Dr. Lee is second on that short list of 2!
Description of Work: I had twisted my ankle as I have numberous times over the years, but this time I knew that it was seriously injured and needed to see a Foot and Ankle specialist. I had an appt. with Dr. Lee and had an xray and an MRI. He was not friendly and did not explain easily or nicely what my ankle problem was...he yelled at me for not getting it Xrayed sooner and that I had torn ligments and tendons on my ankle/foot. He said that this is very serious and that I would need surgery and I needed to come back next week to get the MRI reading and to decide on having surgery. I could not believe how rude and condescending he was to me. I told my husband to come with me on the next appt. to confirm my opinion of this arrogant doctor. This appt. (before seeing Dr. Lee), I had my other foot Xrayed also, due to the fact I had also twisted it previously and thought I'd better get it check, while I am here and also since he yelled at my about my other foot. Upon seeing him with my husband in attendance I asked him if he could explain to my husband about my foot on the Xray (which he had on the Xray light on the wall). He explained very briefly without showing him on the Xray and was not friendly or nice again. Again, this confirmed my previous opinion of him. Then I asked him how was my other Xray on my right foot and I quote, "What are we working on your right foot or your left foot!!" My husband was shocked at his demeanor. With that being said, we agreed to part ways and I got another doctor to do the surgery. I was talking with a few ladies at my fitness club (one lady had surgery for the same thing last year) who both had ankle surgery similar to my. The one lady who teaches the class had Dr. Lee and she also stated she did not like his demeanor, but was afraid to change since she already invested in the xray and etc. Both women agree/confirmed my perceptions of him. I would highly recommend that NO ONE go to him or use him. He may be a good surgeon (which I have not heard either way), but I was not willing to compromise to find out! Also I forgot to mention after my first visit with Dr. Lee he DID NOT give me a shoe/boot to wear on my foot or recommend any thing until our next appt. So I left the office without any foot/ankle support. I had crutches that I was using. On my THIRD visit with a new Doctor I rec'd a shoe boot for support until my surgery the following week. For a Dr. that was so mad and yelling at a patient one would think he would of given or recommended some kind of support for my foot until surgery....wouldn't you...????

Description of Work: I had a previous break to a metatarsal and the immobilization of the foot contributed to a bunion issue. Dr Berlet was thorough and provided me with the alternatives to surgery in a very kind, caring manner. I elected to not have surgery.

Was able to schedule an appointment about a week out from my phone call. Delivery of intake materials was done on-line saving lots of time at initial appointment, front desk staff very personable and recommended MRI be done at alternate location that was cheaper than the MRI facility on site! Orthopedic shoe and orthotics store on-site makes shoe and adaptive equipment purchases easy. On the positive, I don't get the sense they are pushing patients to use this service but it does make it very convenient!
Description of Work: met with Dr. Swan for review of inflammation in big toe joint - this was a 2nd opinion to hopefully avoid surgery. Dr. Swan was thorough in her evaluation, requested new MRI/xrays, recommended more tiered approach to my care vs. automatic surgery. She carefully dictates notes of appointment so there is a detailed sense of condition, the treatment and follow through etc. I am satisfied with the care. Dr. Swan offers appoints as early at 7:30 am so I am able to get in and out and still get to work (25 mies east of Columbus) without disrupting my work day!

. It was not a good experience, but I'm glad we went---it scared me & was a big part of why we chose NOT to have surgery!
Description of Work: We went to see Dr. Berlet as a second opinion for my daughter who had severely sprained her ankle completely rupturing one of her ligaments and partially tearing the other. The first Dr. we saw recommended surgery but as a rule I don't go forward with surgery unless 2 doctors agree it is the best course of action. Dr. Berlet also recommended surgery, but he was very rude--he seemed to be irritated that he was our second opinion. He was arrogant and insulted our first doctor more than once. He refused to answer questions about the surgical procedure he was recommending saying that we should leave those details up to him. His office reminded me of an assembly line---the number of patients seen was tremendous and interaction was limited and not personal. The staff quickly moved you from one station to the next, and then guided you to the onsite "store" where you could purchase items needed for your surgery---at a very high price! The other doctor we went to would've supplied all the necessary items and billed our insurance directly---based on the price difference, anyone who purchased here would likely not get full amount reimbursed by insurance as the prices were crazy. We ultimately opted not to do the surgery and with physical therapy and prolotherapy my daughter, who is an athlete, has fully recovered in half the time surgery would have taken.

Nine years ago I sprained my left ankle and was told by my family doctor that it was a bad sprain. I was put in an air cast. 3 months later my ankle was still very swollen, so my rheumatologist did an MRI to rule out arthritis problems. She discovered a tendon tear and referred me to Dr. Lee. The surgery went well, so I have continued to see him (and one of his partners) ever since for problems with my feet and ankles. He identified an old injury from many years ago that was starting to bother me again and suggested surgery. The office staff is very friendly and eager to help you. I have recommended Dr. Lee to two friends and they too have been pleased with their treatments.

My surgery was very successful. It will be a year before my foot is totally healed, and i still have some aching, but the major pain I had before in my midfoot is gone for the first time in 11 years! Dr. Berlet is conscious of other medical issues that affect your healing, and believes in making the patient not just a patient, but part of the recovery team. I have been very impressed and know I did the right thing in having surgery and found the right surgeon to do it.
Description of Work: I first consulted Dr. Berlet in September 2011 due to a dramatic increase in the foot pain I'd had for 10 years following a misdiagnosed foot injury. Dr. Berlet was my 5th opinion! His opinion was different from the previous ones, but turned out to be the only one that mattered. He explained that the increase in pain I was having was due to a new fracture, and explained exactly what my foot problem was and what needed to be done to correct it. I scheduled surgery for November, but 10 days before it was scheduled, I was in a serious car accident and my foot surgery had to be postponed due to the more pressing injuries I sustained in the accident. Finallly I was recovered enough to have my foot surgery, which took place in April 2012.
