ARCO - Affordable Roofing & Chimney Options

I purchased this through an Angie's List deal and was contacted very quickly about getting on the schedule. I was given an arrival window of 1-2:00pm. Greg and John arrived exactly at 1:00 and got right to work. They completed the sweep, inspection and estimate then explained what they found. While I felt the estimate may be a little high, I appreciated the time they took to explain exactly what needed to be done and why. Most of what they found was consistent with what our home inspector noted when we purchased the home over the summer. They answered all of my questions and showed me exactly what I needed in order to do a minor repair myself. The cost of the Angie's list deal was great. The estimate for future work seemed a little high though. My rating for price is based on the actual service performed today.

I was very pleased with the responsiveness with which we got the first appointment with ARCO. It was less than a week between when I contacted them and when the first work was performed. After that though, things became a little more convoluted. Without rambling on about the details I will summarize. The front office and their repairmen don't appear to communicate well with each other. If the office tells you someone will be there on a certain day, you have about a 50% chance of them being there on that day. The work they did was good, but I just don't have the luxury of sitting around waiting for people that don't show up when I think they are going to.

There was no problem with it. They did a fine job. They cleaned up. They did an inspection and they swept it and they were pretty thorough. They got here early.

I was looking for a camera inspection of my chimney lining. Upon talking to them after purchasing this deal, I found out it was a cleaning and a visual inspection. When I explained to them it did not meet my needs at this time, they were very courteous about canceling my scheduled cleaning. I would use them in the future for a chimney cleaning.

They did the work, but they didn't clean up very well afterwards.

We have a 160 year old house with a metal roof. This job was a coating of that roof and caulking around vents and chimneys. We got four estimates and this was $3000 less than the next bidder -- a concern at first since we had never had a job like this done before. |They arrived promptly at 8 am, power-washed the roof, left while it dried, and finished all in one day. The young man was very professional, punctual and accommodating. He went about his business without hesitation and was finished in no time. He even took a picture of the job at end and also my chimney crown which he said needed attention.

They came and cleaned chimney said it needed some work on flashing and the cap quoted me a price on site and did a great job cleaning with no mess at all very nice guys and nice to do business with .

They came, they did the work and they also told me that there should have been a huge repair on the chimney, because the chimney crown was broken and that there was no chimney cap. So they gave me a quote. The quote was insane in terms of price. For that reason they finished the work. The sweep was fine, but I said thank you, I will ask someone else to do the repair. I called another company to do the repair, and they charged me less than half of the price. I was really embarrassed because it was exactly the same work. They added additional things for me and I spent less than half of the price. So my perception and my experience with these guys were fine for the sweep, but probably if I asked someone else, I could have a better price. That is what I think now. Because when they did the quote for the repair, the quote was very high. For me, these professional should be ethically professional, so when you are really out of the market in terms of price, it is really strange for me.

After they inspected my chimney, I was unable to close my flue. It won't close anymore and there is no catch. They also told me that I have a bunch of repairs that need to be done but proceeded to light a fire in the fireplace. They did clean out the soot in the fireplace. They have not returned any of my phone calls in the last week and a half.

Purchased angie's deal for chimney sweep and inspection. Tech arrived with only a vacuum cleaner and a flashlight. The tech laid on the floor and shined his flashlight up my 25 floor chimney and told me everything was fine. Really? A complete and total rip-off. Tech never went on the roof. Was done in less than 20 minutes. I have never had a chimney swept in the past without work being done from the roof and it takes more than a shop vac to sweep a chimney.

Very prompt and professional. Repaired the roofing around our chimney and is coming back to help put in new bricks in our wood burning stove at no cost. He was on time and sometimes early but called to make sure that was not a problem. Referred him to our son who also needed a chimney cleaned. I would recommend this company to all my friends.

They found that the chimney was missing the metal piece inside and said it was unusable without being replaced. This was something we suspected, because when we had water damage via the roof, the company who did the work took out that piece and never put it back in. That should have been replaced by the insurance. We didn't know that at the time (3 years ago). Arco gave two estimates-- one for chimney repair and one for turning the fireplace into a gas fireplace. Although, the estimates were reasonable, we are unable at this time to go forward with one of those projects. When we do, we will certainly pick Arco as the company to do it.

He moved items out of the way to get to the ceiling, he repaired ceiling by cutting out the wall board that was mildewed, he replaced wall board and returned items to location. He swept garage floor since a lot of ceiling debris was on the floor along with leafs and other stuff that was there before the repair. He repaired the roof leak and guaranteed it for life. He reports that rest of the roof looks OK. Previously he had installed a roof solar fan. Which was OK. I cannot tell if it has made a difference, yet. That was earlier in August, I cannot remember the exact date.

Work was done to my satisfaction. Workers were very efficient and did an excellent job cleaning up. Gutters were done later due to finding the same type of gutter I had (leaf guard). There was a problem with the final cost being more than my insurance company paid but Arco is currently working with the insurance company to resolve this issue. Overall I was very satisfied with Arco.

The company and the service tech that performed the cleaning and inspection were excellent. The service tech actually arrived about 15 minutes before the appointment which was not a problem for us. He was courteous and informative and indicated that our chimney crown was showing wear (after only a couple of years of being replaced - something I will address with the original installer). I greatly appreciate the service provided and will use them again next year. The only issue we had was a communication issue between the company, ARCO, and the service tech. My wife was not aware that I had already paid $99 through an Angies List "special deal" and was charged $89 by the service tech. The service tech was not informed that this was an Angies List "deal". I kind of burns me that we would have only had to pay ARCO's standard $89 rate if we had NOT gone through Angies List. How is Angies List a deal here? Buyer beware. This is the reason I rated Price a 'C'. We called the service tech and informed him of the mix-up and he was very polite and just ripped up the check. I'll be watching my bank transactions for the next couple weeks to make sure I'm not charged the $89.

The work was completed in a timely manner at the agreed price. The work appears to very well done and I would definitely use them in the future. I was pleased and now have asked them to give me an estimate on re-siding the house.

Came right out and did a great job

We need new gutters, but the work was fine.

After incurring significant water damage from a roof leak, we had Arco come out to evaluate the problem and recommend a solution. There was no obvious damage or evidence of where the leak originated. Due to his experience, Patrick Archer was able to determine the construction of the valleys was poor and resulted in a pooling effect during heavy rainfall. He recommended resheathing two small roof slopes to correct the structural deficiency and rubberized underlayment that would extend up under the siding. To further protect against backup, he recommended replacing the 5" gutters in that area with new 6" gutters and downspouts to handle the large roof area feeding the short gutter span. It was this excellent diagnostic work, based on his experience, that gave me the confidence that Arco could truely remedy our problem. I would recommend Arco for any tough roofing project.

They were very pleasant and accommodating for what I was requesting on the phone.

Everything went well. The gutter cleaning went fast and so did the roof repair. They showed us pictures so we could see what's wrong with our chimney. They repaired the chimney very quickly and promptly. We may even do gutter guards with them.

I was satisfied with the job that they did. However,Bill advised me that they also had a lawn mowing unit and when I asked them to mow a lawn at one of my houses they never showed up even though I called them twice. This has caused me to scratch them off of my list of service providers.
