Rain One, Inc. was founded in 1991 and began with only a few employees. Through hard work, late nights and perserverance, the company has grown to more than 20 employees and thousands of customers currently. The family bond of the employees at Rain One is nearly as strong as their customer's attitudes and faith when entrusting the company to do work for them on an annual basis. No extra charge for after hours emergency service. Additional contact: Jeff Schmidt (614-419-3501). Accepts John Deere Credit.
They are a good company to work with and I recommend them highly. The pricing was fair and they are very dependable.
Description of Work: They have been my irrigation company for years. I recently had a problem with my drainage from the house to the street which was determined by another company and Rain One installed some new drain pipe after digging and connected the necessary pipes to correct the problem.

The landscape lighting repair person showed up on time and completed the repair effectively. My gripe is that the 3 hour repair wouldn't have taken so long if the repair person wasn't on the phone for 25 minutes trying to talk through a problem with another client. I also expressed to both the salesperson and the lighting repair technician that I wanted additional lighting on specific areas of the house. No one bothered to call me back to set up an appointment to quote the proposed additional work

They did a great job. I had a blocked drain pipe. They had to determine where the blockage was and replace it. I spent $350. I thought the price was a little high. They used a camera and went down my downspout and went out into the street to determine which ones were clear. They found one that was blocked. They dug it up. It was cracked and broken. They took that segment out and replaced it. They were wonderful. I will consider using this company in the future.

Sorry, I wrote everything up above. The reason I'm so late reporting all this is I had computer problems. For some reason, when a 2nd hard drive was installed in my 2 year old computer, my email was set for Pacific Time and not Eastern and I had no idea that my screen time was not same as the email time. My Geek fixed it for me. In order for me to write this, my email had to be put on eastern time.
Description of Work: Rain One removed all but a couple of already installed sprinkler and added aprox. 13 new ones. They removed two junction boxes and covers where the lines were tied into 5 seperate timed waterings. They then installed 7 round covers and 1 square cover juntion areas at random places into the lawn areas, which is not what I had hoped for, as I wanted the lawn smooth to walk on and not have down spots I have to be careful walking on. I'm almost 72 and took a bad fall from a landscaper not doing what I asked him to do and make sure the walk he put in was level with a slight downward slope towards the backyard, as my property slopes towards the backyard. These plates layed in at a random area, have nearly caused me to fall again. Rain One also removed the timer I had for 5 seperate waterings and replaced it with 9 seperate cycles. They added a rinky d*** kind of soaker hoses and then layed it on the surface of my planter system which goes around the side, front and to the front porch in a J style. The problem is, the soker hoses keep coming apart and because of this, most areas are not getting watered. I had no idea I'd have to try and put them together every time I watered. I've never seen a system like this before. In the multiple junction, one of the hose and now several hoses keep coming undone. I can tell that at least one hose is too short but, I'm at a loss as to why now several will not stay together. The junctions are plastice and look like a 4 way gas nozzle they use in chemistry classes, only plastic. I asked about 6 times for the manual to the timer and I've no idea why it took from 04/28/2010 until 06/08/2010 before Jeff finally gave it to me. During this time, I was hearing a horrible noise from the basement. Jeff, the salesman said he'd have to send Tommy Roth out, (who is their only plumber). to take care of it. I asked if he was a licensed plumber and Jeff said yes. I said my plumbing in the bathroom was overflowing from the tank and ask if Tommy could fix that as well and Jeff said that Tommy would. Tommy arrived about 2 weeks later and I thought he said he cut the water flow at the meter but Tommy studders so badly, I couldn't be sure. I told Jeff that I needed these 2 items fixed badly. When Tommy got here he did something because the water meter was no longer sounding like a jackhammer through out the house. I did asked him if he could put some designer fausets on the outside and he took one faucet apart that was sealed by the siding guy who broke it and did not put it back together. Then he said he had to go. I said, but you've not fixed the jon yet. He said he had another appointment. I said that Jeff told me you'd fix the water tank to the jon but Tommy told me he had not talked to Jeff in a month and a half. Tommy did not tell me who then had sent he out to fix the water meter. I pleaded and begged Tommy to fix the jon but he flat refused refused to do it. Jeff came 3 days later and he had the manual to run the sprinkler system and told me I upset Tommy. I never said anything to Tommy to upset him. But, when Jeff told me I upset Tommy after using my personal bathroom, I could not believe he was also going to leave as well. Yes, I told "Jeff" that I lost 1/2 hour by Tommy arriving late and another 1/2 hour listening to Tommy studdering and not telling me he wasn't going to fix the jon. I was upset with Jeff because, I "waited" 2 weeks for Tommy. I could have had the jon fixed but, no, I believed Jeff would tell Tommy what was needed. I also told Jeff, after he became a bit hostile towards me that one of the work crew was the last to use the guest bathroom prior to it overflowing. Jeff took it all wrong, got mad and left but, not before I asked him if he had problems dealing with women. I feel that some men in construction hate to own up to their faults to an older woman. The key word here is "woman". One other thing happened. I paid cash for the job the same day it was done and when I wrote the final check, I noticed the extention soaker hose was not coming around to the entry and up to the pourch and said something about it. Jeff did have Bobby come back and complete the job and also set the sprinklers so as not to hit the fence and deck. I was given one key for the large sprinklers and told that a screwdriver adjusts the small ones. This is the first time I was shown how to make adjustments and Bobby was the only one that wasn't in a hurry to leave and explained it to me. I didn't think to ask Jeff if Rain One would be out to drain the system in the fall. I think there's a problem here. I paid a lot of money for a one day job and I expected great service. I was prepared to pay Tommy as plumber for his work but, I also expected Jeff to have told him what I needed fixed. One of two men lied to me. I did not get a bill for what ever Tommy did do. If wanting a job done gets Tommy upset, well, how about me? Does everyone wait for a plumber for 2 weeks and gets only strap loosened or cut at a water meter and not get the simple installing of a "fill valve" that I can't do because my hands won't let me? I told Jeff I was going to give Rain One all my plumbing work and all my fall shut downs and spring start ups. I'd rather have "One" company I could rely on do everything than lots of companies. I asked for the parts they removed as the 5 sprinkler system electronics cost $250.00 and I've got to return it to the original landscaper in court. Jeff said they might have thrown it away? It was still new and it belonged to me. I had no idea there were going to be 8 plates in the lawn either, for me to be careful about when walking. I've already fallen by a bad landscaper not listening to me when I told him the pavers had to be level. They didn't have the manual or box that their system came with, that's why I didn't have any instructions to set the timer. I printed out the manual when I phoned a dealer in Northern Columbus to see how much the 5 system cost and he gave me instructions on how to print out the manual for Hunter PC. I did that 5 days before I got the one from Jeff. It took 37 days to get a manual from Rain One. I think this was uncalled for by Rain One. I did not lose my temper but I sure had a right to!

This is the second response to the same job that we completed in May 10, 2010. Please read that response about the great system the member recieved and loved. We have been back to this home to service any complaint she has made and will do so for the five years that we have warranted the system.

Scheduling and execution of quote process went very well. The sales rep was pleasant to work with and answered all my questions about RainOne's products and installation practices. We had several quotes and based on all the positive Angie's List reports for this company, and their competitive pricing, we chose RainOne. Before I begin, I should say that I'm satisfied with the sprinkler system itself but I was dissatisfied with the sales representative's response to what should have been easy-to-fix installation issues. The issues were resolved, but only after an unprofessional encounter. I was pleased we were able to schedule the installation just a week later and the crew showed up on time to begin work in the morning. The RainOne installation crew was friendly and professional. However, their subcontractor plumber who installed the backflow device and meter left a mess on my laundry room floor - even after I had asked him to clean it. Within two days we noticed our control box timer was not set correctly and a couple sprinkler heads needed to be readjusted so I called our sales rep and he sent out the original installation technician to make the adjustments and clean the mess left by the plumber. He was able to fix the system problems right away but came unprepared to clean the dirt (no supplies) so I didn't pursue the issue. It was two days after installation, when I walked the entire yard, that I also noticed that valve boxes had been placed all over the yard, including one right in the middle of my front lawn. Perhaps it was my inexperience with irrigation systems because I never asked exactly where the valve boxes would go, but I never expected there to be a large green plastic cover smack in the middle of my lawn (all valve boxes at our previous home had been in the flower beds, hidden by plants). Our sales rep had been very specific with us that we would not be billed until we were completely satisfied with the work. Just a couple days after noticing the valve boxes and after the technician was unprepared to clean up the mess, we received the invoice in the amount of $200 more than the signed contract stated. Since it was late at night when I opened the invoice, I sent an email to our sales rep clearly and calming explaining our dissatisfaction (mess, valve boxes, incorrect invoice). The next morning the sales rep was at my front door before 8:00 AM. He had not called ahead and I was busy getting my children ready for school...still in my pajamas in fact. He demanded to see the mess in the laundry room and then proceeded to raise his voice to me to express his disbelief that I would take issue with such small problems. He was particularly disturbed that I had chosen to email him rather than call him. He clearly misunderstood the tone of my email and had assumed I was "yelling" at him. I tried to explain that that was not my intention at all, but he was so worked up he was no longer listening to me. He did explain that incorrect amount on the invoice was due to the fact that we had agreed to a reduced price (by $200) when we signed the contract and his secretary must not have seen the note. While this did explain the discrepancy he made this explanation while raising his voice, again. Eventually, I told him to leave my house if he was going to continue to yell at me early in the morning. Before leaving, he made threats to bill me for some extra electrical work that was done at installation, that the technician had told me was complimentary (and I had thanked the technician for profusely). In order to get him out, I agreed to pay the signed-contract price of $3200 with no discounts for my inconveniences. The next day, the sales rep did call me to apologize for his unprofessional tone and behavior. The bill was corrected and the mess was cleaned up. We have learned to live with the location of the unexpected valve boxes. There was a lengthy delay in receiving the laminated zone-reference card for our control box (I had to call and ask for it) and seven weeks after installation we noticed a leak near one of the sprinkler heads. Since the system is warranted for parts & labor for 5 years, I called to schedule a repair. This process was very positive...the technician arrived early and got to work even though I was not home. He immediately found the problem, replaced the faulty pipe and replaced another sprinkler head that was not retracting properly. I can not recommend RainOne for system installations but will continue to call them for warranty repairs and problems. I waited to write this report to give me time to be able to do so unemotionally and honestly. I have left out all employee names since the issues were eventually resolved and I received a satisfactory apology.

Overall, the experience has been positive and they have done well after another company did not do a good job. They did all of the sprinkler heads in one day and cleaned up pretty well. They said that the downspouts were clogged. They fixed one of them and then did an estimate for laying new downspouts. That whole service was $300, which was over-priced. I thought their estimate was outrageous, so I contacted an architect friend of mine who brought over a landscaping crew, and it turned out that the downspouts weren?t clogged. I wouldn?t use them again. The guys that did the work seemed professional.

Overall, happy with their services except for the price.
Description of Work: I've used Rain One for our residential lawn sprinkler needs for several years now. Overall, I've been very happy with their services. I sign up for their silver package which includes the Spring sprinkler activation, a backflow test, and the Fall deactivation. I've found the service personnel to be punctual and friendly and they seem to know what they are doing. It is convenient to use them for the backflow test as they take care of faxing the report to the water department. My only gripe is that they are rather expensive for their services. The backflow test, when priced out separately, is about $25 more than what we have paid other service providers. However, the whole process of the backflow test is hassle free with Rain One, so that's why I stick with them. I am paying $193 for the silver package for this year for a 16 zone system. Their repairs seem pricey too.

The man that I usually use to do the job, stopped doing the job, and his wife suggested Rain One. We were extremely pleased with them. The technician came out and did the job. He gave my husband some additional information, which was very useful. I thought that they were going to charge us $120 but it was something like $65. I just couldn?t believe it. I called them back and thanked them. They were extremely reasonable and knowledgeable, and provided a lot of information. We didn?t have to sign a contract for them to come out and do the work. I would rate them highly and would use them again in the future.
