The add said we would get 5%off for being Angie's List members, he said that was on material only. Not on labor or service, feels like it was misleading from the add in the publication. They do great work. I have used them before.

The amount of the project was 15,000 but I had purchased the wall paper, faucet, and the light fixtures making the total at 20,000. The service was pretty well, they came out on time when they said they would for the estimate and when the work started. The lady that helped with the designs and the new lay out was very good, she listened to everything i had to say. The only thing is she was the only person in her field, so at times it was hard to get a hold of her. she did misinform me of a type of under-mount sink that I wanted wouldn't be available for the type of remodel that I wanted. Other than that she was lovely to work with. The only mistake the contractors made was with the cabinets they were properly measured so part of the top cabinets are sticking out more than they should be. They did tell me they could come out to fix that when I need. I was really happy with this provider.
Description of Work: Had my Kitchen remodeled. That included new counter tops, cabinets, sink faucet, sink, fridge, light fixtures, walls painted, wall paper, and new tile floor installed.

Everything went very well. Color Age gave us top quality work. All its workers are very professional and well-trained. They always cleaned up at the end of each work day, never left any mess behind. Matthew did a wonderful job coordinating all different work teams. As a result our renovation project finished as scheduled. We are extremely pleased with Color Age and highly recommend them to our friends and neighbor. We've been using Color Age since 1982 and they never disappoint us!!!

We had previously visited a different store, where the people were of no help in finding what we were looking for. That's when we decided to try Color Age, which has been in our neighborhood as long as we can remember ? and we were very glad that we did. The store is spacious and well-lit , with large islands on which to lay out wallpaper books and compare papers. Ours was a small order; we were only looking for paper for one room at this time, but this did not affect the level of service that we received. Brittany, who worked with us,was of enormous help. She knew what was available in the wallpaper books, gave us her undivided attention, and listened carefully to our likes and dislikes as a way of helping zero in on what we were looking for. Impressively, Color Age has books composed of papers from different manufacturers sorted by color; i.e., there is a yellow book, an orange book, etc. Brittany had helpful opinions, but never tried to "sell" us on particular paper. Ours was a small order; we were looking for paper for only one room, but this did not affect the level of service that we received. Once we had narrowed down our choices, we put down a deposit of $10 per book, and took two of the wallpaper books home over the weekend, in order to evaluate the finalists in the bathroom itself. (The book deposits were then applied against the purchase price of the selected paper.) The paper was ordered and arrived from the manufacturer when promised. Our Color Age experience was very pleasant and productive; we will certainly keep them in mind for any future home decorating needs that they can help us fill.

It went well, although you get what you pay for. We had not moved in yet, so we were not inconvenienced by any scheduling. All work was complete prior to move in, including some touch ups. Some work was sloppy though, including the staining of the hardwood floors, some ceramic spray paint on the newly stained hardwood floors, painted doors which weren't left fully open to dry - thus paint cracking off when the doors were opened. While Color Age did come back to touch up where needed most, there were multiple minor things which to some, could be a major thing. The price was competitive, but the quality of the finish could have been better.
Description of Work: Refinish floors, add matching hardwood floors, paint the house, paint kitchen cabinets, hang accent wallpapers, spray ceramic tiles and bathtubs, power wash and reinforce the deck.

They were great to work with for design and the work was done within the time frame they said it would be. They were very friendly to work with and I highly recommend them to anybody. They were very patient when they work with me and they showed what they can do. They really showed us some possibilities of what you can do; which is really good. They walk you through about every step they did everything they said they would do when they said they would do it; which is important. The price was a little more than I expected to pay but it was pretty reasonable. We are very happy so far.

The design stage took the longest. I worked with Delores from start to finish. I worked with her on design from January until May. Sal came and measured and Delores worked tirelessly with me on every detail. The only piece of the job that was outsourced was the moving of air conditioning duct work. We picked out each and every detail together. She never ran out of ideas or solutions. I used a semi-custom cabinet company that allowed me to save when I could use standard size cabinets and gave me the flexibility to create custom cabinets where needed. She pointed out that instead of spending 5000 on a custom cabinet to house my existing oversized microwave, I could purchase a microwave/warming drawer combo and standard cabinet for a total of 2500. We must have done at least 15 configurations and layouts before we settled. In the end, I did not have to compromise on anything I wanted - including the pull out spice racks that posed as decorative columns on either side of my cooktop. We then picked out granite, backsplash tiles and kitchen flooring. She worked with me to allow me to create my own design for the cooktop backsplash. I went with high end appliances. I shopped around and got the best deal on appliances through their source. I searched all of NY state and the internet for the perfect accent lighting and ended up finding the perfect lights from her source at her designer discount. Knob and pulls were another huge project which she helped me research and when I found what I wanted from my own source, she congratulated me on my great find and moved on to the next item on her checklist. We picked out sinks, faucets, garbage disposals, and instant hot water spout. She had an endless supply of design knowledge and resources. Even as we got down to the final decisions, like paint colors and grout colors for between the tiles, she took the same care and effort to make sure each detail would be perfect. We created a custom fireplace in the livingroom made from the same wood as my kitchen cabinets and the most beautiful marble. Marble and granite were purchased from her source and they were a pleasure to work with. When I had a problem with a scratch in the granite, they worked with the provider to fix it. Before the project began, I received and signed off on a very detailed estimate. We knew down to the dollar what the project would cost. And it ended up running almost exactly as they estimated. The only glitch was that when the floors were taken up and the rooms were merged into one, they noticed that there was a need for a building up of the floor in the living room. 1500 was the only unforeseen cost in the entire project. I had 2 small children and was very afraid of the actual work getting done. I have one child with severe allergies and was very afraid of the mess and the dust. They put up heavy plastic barriers which did a decent job of keeping the other areas of the house clean. I was told that the entire renovation would take 6 weeks. I was skeptical, but their team came in and they had all the contractors on staff. We never had to wait for a plumber to move a gas or waterline, they had their own. We had a one week delay when my Brazilian teak for the living room/dining room got caught up in customs, but I had a working kitchen as promised on the specified date. Last minute decisions, like a new back door, were seamlessly worked into the project plan. The workmen were kind, courteous and respectful. They were appreciative of simple gestures like donuts and lemonade. Any question as to how something should be done, was run by me. They never assumed and never just took the path of least resistance.
Description of Work: I renovated the entire main level of my house which is a split level. I knocked down walls, and removed a closet to create a great room that included a kitchen, living room and dining room. I replaced everything from floor to ceiling. New kitchen layout, which moved one sink and added another. Replaced all kitchen appliances, floors, countertops. The only think that remained was a recently purchased dishwasher and the windows - which they reframed for me. I put in new Brazilian Teak floors and created a gorgeous fireplace of marble and cherry wood.

In the Color Age store, Paul and Matthew have been unfailingly pleasant and most helpful. Dolores is a design star. She is extremely knowledgable and has been a joy to work with over the years. (She picks out the best wallpaper!) Every job, whether large or small, is treated with the same respect and consideration with regard to taste and budget.Tony and Willy , who work directly for Color Age, are meticulous craftsmen and lovely people to have in your home. They were able to make our uneven walls appear flawless, an incredible transformation and not an easy task in a building more than 40 years old! When they did any demolition, the rest of the property was properly protected from excess dust and debris. Clean up was performed at the end of each work day. Hallways were vacuumed, tools neatly stored for the next days' use, etc. They left the property so clean, if we didn't know better from the work in progress, we'd have thought nobody had been there. Elias, the paperhanger and also a direct employee of Color Age, takes so much pride in his work. He, too, was able to maneuver around the nooks and crannies to put up the paper in all the hallways - patterns matched seamlessly! Although this narrative is mostly about Color Age's work for our building, the same comments and grades apply for the quality of their work when they totally gutted and remodeled my apartment kitchen. Because of our always favorable experiences with Color Age, we have never hesitated to recommend them to family and friends.
Description of Work: Being a Board member for 29 years comes with major responsibilities to our shareholders. In 2008, a decision was made to redecorate the common areas of the building, and a committee was organized. Color Age stood out among all the proposals not only for the design (Dolores), but for their ability to work within our tastes and budget. Additionally, the fact that they have licensed professionals in ALL areas and do NOT subcontract was a major plus - one stop shopping made our job so much easier! The hallways were painted (including the basement area), papered, and carpeted. There was minimal disruption for the 86 families; every effort was made to ensure that people could go about their daily business. The cooperation and respect given to our Superintendent was above and beyond-- all co-op rules were followed to a T! Our massive lobby was redesigned using the existing seating (reupholstered), creating inexpensive wall designs with contrasting frames and wallpaper, and building classy, custom coverings for the "maypole" columns. New lighting design and fixtures completed this phase of the refurbishing. Our successful experience with this phase led us to use Color Age again when our outdoor entry portico needed refurbishing. Once again, all of the Board's ideas were carefully considered and after some tweaking of design alternatives, we arrived at a fresh new look that has enhanced our building's appearance and is enjoyed by all, both residents and visitors. Most recently, we refurbished our 3 compactor rooms- new tiles, slop sinks, general painting. Once again, Color Age came through with flying colors with practical, budget friendly suggestions for these often used rooms. As a result of Color Age's work on the common areas, a number of residents, including myself, have satisfactorily utilized their services for individual apartment kitchen and/or bathroom renovations. Their employees have taken the required EPA course re: lead paint and follow the guidelines for protecting your home and family.

Overall, everything was completed in a timely fashion.
Description of Work: I found Color-Age while searching the web. My inital purchase was a plantation shutter for my bathroom. My salesperson, Matthew was most helpful. It wasn't long after receiving and installing the shutter, I was hooked! Matthew later helped me with all my window treatments (kitchen, living room, bedroom and stairway). I had pillows and throws made to perfection to match my window treatments. Once all the fine details were done carpeting was installed (very neatly and carefully). My final purchase was a banister. It took the longest due to pieces on backorder, but was worth the wait. It was a pleasure working with Matthew. I'll definitely keep him in mind for any other upcoming projects!

Overall an amazing experience with Color Age!
Description of Work: In July of 2011 I went to Color Age looking for a Hunter Douglas window treatment I was interested in. I was referred to them by a friend of mine who has been working with Color Age for almost 40 years. Upon arriving I was greeted kindly and was shown the product book alone with suggestions as to what I should do with my particular window. The employee was incredibly knowledgeable and informed me that the product may not have been the best choice for my window. My window is quite large, so the treatment I chose oringinally would have been to heavy. I appreciated his honesty towards me, and that he didn't push me into something just for a sale. Before comming to Color Age, I had went to another retailer, who did not mention whatsoever that I would have an issue. I wound up going with a beautiful honeycomb shade, and am very pleased. It took about two weeks for the store to have it, and about another week for them to install it. Color Age was a great help to me, and I would definately recommend them further.

Description of Work: Regarding "Color Age" in New Hyde Park I would like to say that I have used this company several times and have been completely satisfied with their work. All of their workers have been very qualified, but Dolores, in particular, has been invaluable to me. Her advice and guidance has been wonderful. We went for the first meetings in April and spent a good few hours with Dolores- she was very knowledgable and helpful. I left feeling I was in good hands. The work was to begin in July and I had confirmed with Color-Age at the end of June that the proper paper work was filed with the town and the co-op. i was assured all was being handled. The work started right on time, however the papers were never filed and the workmen had to leave in the middle of the job and we were not able to re-schedule until September. A multitude of $ was lost due to hotels booked/cancelled/job time requested off. Finally I was assured the paperwork was right and they were to start on a Wednesday- once again hotels booked, time off allocated. The Wednesday before I was informed the plumbers insurance had lapsed and he was now with a new brokerage company, but once again the right papers were not in place, luckily only a one day delay this time, thanks to the plumber- not colorage. Phone calls were not returned and what was to be a pleasant experience turned out to be h*** due to a paperwork nightmare. Color age kept blaming the management company , but if this was done on a timely basis, not at the 23rd hour, there would not have been any problems. The workmen were FANTASTIC and worked on a timely, professional basis. However, the personnel in the store were very disappointing - I was having a counter top cut down to fit a refrigerator-Color-Age told me I would have to have the counter removed for a week and cut down. I found a wonderful man on my own and for $200.00 and not the mess Color Age scared me about, the counter was cut down perfectlly!!!!
Description of Work: My kitchen was upgraded with a pass through and soffets opened to create a shelf. An cabinet was removed and a smaller one added to obtain more room. My bathroom was gutted and fully renovated. 9/27- there were a few last minute issues- nothing major and Color Age was very responsive and they are rectifying the situation. The end result....I have a lovely spa bathroom. 1/3/12- 3 months after the work was done the bathtub would not drain. I had to call in a plumber on my own to have a new trap installed- this was after the tub had been rippped up in September. The cost to repair what should have been done was $279.00. I contacted Paul Scarpa at Colorage to request compensation since their plumber did all the work and typical of Colorage and Paul, I never received even the decency of a response. CUSTOMER SATISFACTION AND COMMON COURTESY ARE OBVIOUSLY NOT A PRIORITY OF COLORAGE. Dolores was on the email as well and she did not have the courtesy of responding either. Even if they had no desire to do the right thing the courtesy of a reply would have been appreciated.

I am happy that the member is ultimatly happy with the work done in her apartment. There were filing issues that came up and were beyond our control that all parties were well aware of. The stone cutter that we use, and who made the countertop for the bathroom as well, refused to cut her existing kitchen countertop in the apt because of the potential of creating quartz dust everywhere.

This company was referred to me by State Farm as part of their premiere service program. The company is based in New Hyde Park, and my apartment is located in Manhattan. The company subcontracted out the work done on my apartment. The subcontractors took over a week to lay down an engineered floor. They left the floor covered with glue. They left glue on a silk chair. They reused old and dirty baseboards. They left a hole punched into the sheet rock, and they ruined the finish on a piece of antique furniture.
Description of Work: Color Age was contracted to replace an engineered floor that had been damaged by water.

As a premier Service provider for State Farm, Color-Age was hired to replace a wood floor that was damaged by water. Color-Age installed the new floor as scheduled and upon completion, the entire floor was covered with brown paper for protection. After our installers left, we received a call that there was glue on the new floor. We sent one of our employee's back on another day to clean three spots which were now no longer covered with brown paper. We cleaned the spots and recovered the floor properly. At this point Color-Age was done with its job and the customer was satisfied. At the time we were there, there was no discussion of glue on furniture, or on a chair, or a hole or dent in the wall. We were not notified of any of this until several days later. There was also no discussion of replacing the existing baseboards, which we could have gladly done but was not part of our estimate for State Farm. Throughout our time going back and forth at the member's residence there were other workers doing painting, Spackle, and moving furniture. Even after our work was completed. Also, to further satisfy the customer, we agreed to deduct money from the final invoice as a "good will" gesture.

1. Mixed paint colors wrong. Was promised two coats of paint. Did the first coat with wrong color and second with almost correct color. Told this was 2 coats. 2. Painting very sloppy. Missed areas on ceilings - brush painted edges do not meet rolled areas. Globs of paint in some areas on ceiling and moldings. Very amateurish. We could have done better ourselves. 3. Painted with latex paint directly over oil based paint on moldings and doors. We later found out this cannot be done without proper preparation. There was no preparation. Paint is only weeks old and now is peeling and washing off. 4. Several closet doors were painted shut. Had to pull open and scrape away paint. 5. Painted Pella sliding doors shut. they no longer slide closed as they are supposed to. 5. Total waste of money - all painting has to be redone and Color-Age couldn?t care less. All they are interested in is getting their money. Quality of work means nothing to them. We tried to explain problems to them on phone - We were told ?We always get our money? and then hung up on us.

Color-Age workers never left a mess at the member's residence. All of the floors were covered with brown paper, and then with plastic drop cloths. When the member called at the end of the first day to tell Mario of the supposed "mess" that our workmen left, he told them not to clean up anything and that the workmen would clean up immediately upon their arrival in the morning. At the end of the second day, hearing of this supposed "mess" again, Mario insisted that he go himself to the residence to clean, but upon his arrival, the member claimed that she had cleaned up everything already. The member also claimed our paperhanger also left a mess leaving razor blades lying around. Our paperhanger is meticulous and neat and always takes all of his trash with him when he leaves. The member wanted to replace the existing buckling wallpaper that was improperly installed on the side of the staircase where carpeting should have been installed. Our paperhanger informed the member that he would not replace the wallpaper there and this should be carpeted. Color-Age advised them of the cost of the new carpeting and the installation as this was never part of the original contract. They refused our advice. Finally, after numerous lies about how "sloppy" our paperhanger was, he became outraged and left the residence ad refused to return. Considering the extreme tip the member gave to our painters, and how they fed the workmen lunch every day, I don't understand how they could say they were unhappy with the work that was done.

When the member scheduled her bathroom to be renovated, she was informed of the time frame needed to complete the work to be done. As per our standard procedure, she left a deposit, and was put on our work schedule. Her job was scheduled, as needed, for a week and a half. The member had decided to buy her own medicine cabinet at Home Depot and stored it in her basement. Our workmen, upon installation found the mirror to be cracked. The cabinet was installed for the meantime, because it was usable and Home Depot was out of stock on that cabinet. Color-Age took the responsibility to order a new cabinet directly from the manufacturer, which did take 10 weeks to come in, but the member was informed of this. The light fixture that the member selected was a type that can be installed up or down and was shown that way in the catalog it was selected from. However, the orientation of the fixture was discussed at the time of installation.

They removed the wet carpet and all the furniture and everything that was stored there. They laid a new carpet but the edges were not finished very well.
Description of Work: A pipe had burst in the upstairs bath, and water had ran down stairs through the ceiling into their basement and also had soaked though the carpet.

Booked job in March 2008. The earliest date I could get to start job was the second week of July. The contractor arrived on first day of job as expected. The job was completed in about a week and a half. I think that it could have been done sooner as the workmen never put in a full day. They usually only worked from about 8:30AM to 2PM. The workmen were very polite and always cleaned up before they left. I was initially very happy with the quality of the work done, however, the mirror on the medicine cabinet was accidentally broken during installation. This wouldn't have been a big deal if they had replaced it within a reasonable amount of time, however as of this writing, I am still waiting (2 1/2 months later). I've called almost weekly to find out when they will fix it, and I'm always told it's on order and will be coming soon. So, in the meantime, you cannot shave, put on makeup, fix your hair or do anything else in this bathroom that requires a mirror. Additionally, the light fixture I picked out was installed incorrectly, and they have to come and fix this too. I'm told they will do this when they come to replace the mirror! I am very disappointed in how little they value my business. Needless to say, I will not be using them again.
Description of Work: Complete remodel of 5x7 bathroom.
They were very good to work with & were very dependable. They were honest & also very accommodating. Their workers were very pleasant to work with as well & I would certainly use them again.
Description of Work: They did some painting, reupholstering, flooring & wallpapering work for me.
