The store is spacious and well-lit , with large islands on which to lay out wallpaper books and compare papers. Ours was a small order; we were only looking for paper for one room at this time, but this did not affect the level of service that we received.
Brittany, who worked with us,was of enormous help. She knew what was available in the wallpaper books, gave us her undivided attention, and listened carefully to our likes and dislikes as a way of helping zero in on what we were looking for. Impressively, Color Age has books composed of papers from different manufacturers sorted by color; i.e., there is a yellow book, an orange book, etc. Brittany had helpful opinions, but never tried to "sell" us on particular paper.
Ours was a small order; we were looking for paper for only one room, but this did not affect the level of service that we received. Once we had narrowed down our choices, we put down a deposit of $10 per book, and took two of the wallpaper books home over the weekend, in order to evaluate the finalists in the bathroom itself. (The book deposits were then applied against the purchase price of the selected paper.) The paper was ordered and arrived from the manufacturer when promised.
Our Color Age experience was very pleasant and productive; we will certainly keep them in mind for any future home decorating needs that they can help us fill.

She pointed out that instead of spending 5000 on a custom cabinet to house my existing oversized microwave, I could purchase a microwave/warming drawer combo and standard cabinet for a total of 2500. We must have done at least 15 configurations and layouts before we settled. In the end, I did not have to compromise on anything I wanted - including the pull out spice racks that posed as decorative columns on either side of my cooktop. We then picked out granite, backsplash tiles and kitchen flooring. She worked with me to allow me to create my own design for the cooktop backsplash.
I went with high end appliances. I shopped around and got the best deal on appliances through their source. I searched all of NY state and the internet for the perfect accent lighting and ended up finding the perfect lights from her source at her designer discount. Knob and pulls were another huge project which she helped me research and when I found what I wanted from my own source, she congratulated me on my great find and moved on to the next item on her checklist. We picked out sinks, faucets, garbage disposals, and instant hot water spout. She had an endless supply of design knowledge and resources. Even as we got down to the final decisions, like paint colors and grout colors for between the tiles, she took the same care and effort to make sure each detail would be perfect.
We created a custom fireplace in the livingroom made from the same wood as my kitchen cabinets and the most beautiful marble. Marble and granite were purchased from her source and they were a pleasure to work with. When I had a problem with a scratch in the granite, they worked with the provider to fix it.
Before the project began, I received and signed off on a very detailed estimate. We knew down to the dollar what the project would cost. And it ended up running almost exactly as they estimated. The only glitch was that when the floors were taken up and the rooms were merged into one, they noticed that there was a need for a building up of the floor in the living room. 1500 was the only unforeseen cost in the entire project.
I had 2 small children and was very afraid of the actual work getting done. I have one child with severe allergies and was very afraid of the mess and the dust. They put up heavy plastic barriers which did a decent job of keeping the other areas of the house clean. I was told that the entire renovation would take 6 weeks. I was skeptical, but their team came in and they had all the contractors on staff. We never had to wait for a plumber to move a gas or waterline, they had their own. We had a one week delay when my Brazilian teak for the living room/dining room got caught up in customs, but I had a working kitchen as promised on the specified date. Last minute decisions, like a new back door, were seamlessly worked into the project plan.
The workmen were kind, courteous and respectful. They were appreciative of simple gestures like donuts and lemonade. Any question as to how something should be done, was run by me. They never assumed and never just took the path of least resistance.

Although this narrative is mostly about Color Age's work for our building, the same comments and grades apply for the quality of their work when they totally gutted and remodeled my apartment kitchen.
Because of our always favorable experiences with Color Age, we have never hesitated to recommend them to family and friends.

The work was to begin in July and I had confirmed with Color-Age at the end of June that the proper paper work was filed with the town and the co-op. i was assured all was being handled.
The work started right on time, however the papers were never filed and the workmen had to leave in the middle of the job and we were not able to re-schedule until September. A multitude of $ was lost due to hotels booked/cancelled/job time requested off.
Finally I was assured the paperwork was right and they were to start on a Wednesday- once again hotels booked, time off allocated.
The Wednesday before I was informed the plumbers insurance had lapsed and he was now with a new brokerage company, but once again the right papers were not in place, luckily only a one day delay this time, thanks to the plumber- not colorage.
Phone calls were not returned and what was to be a pleasant experience turned out to be h*** due to a paperwork nightmare.
Color age kept blaming the management company , but if this was done on a timely basis, not at the 23rd hour, there would not have been any problems.
The workmen were FANTASTIC and worked on a timely, professional basis. However, the personnel in the store were very disappointing -
I was having a counter top cut down to fit a refrigerator-Color-Age told me I would have to have the counter removed for a week and cut down. I found a wonderful man on my own and for $200.00 and not the mess Color Age scared me about, the counter was cut down perfectlly!!!!
"I am happy that the member is ultimatly happy with the work done in her apartment. There were filing issues that came up and were beyond our control that all parties were well aware of. The stone cutter that we use, and who made the countertop for the bathroom as well, refused to cut her existing kitchen countertop in the apt because of the potential of creating quartz dust everywhere."
"As a premier Service provider for State Farm, Color-Age was hired to replace a wood floor that was damaged by water. Color-Age installed the new floor as scheduled and upon completion, the entire floor was covered with brown paper for protection. After our installers left, we received a call that there was glue on the new floor. We sent one of our employee's back on another day to clean three spots which were now no longer covered with brown paper. We cleaned the spots and recovered the floor properly. At this point Color-Age was done with its job and the customer was satisfied. At the time we were there, there was no discussion of glue on furniture, or on a chair, or a hole or dent in the wall. We were not notified of any of this until several days later. There was also no discussion of replacing the existing baseboards, which we could have gladly done but was not part of our estimate for State Farm. Throughout our time going back and forth at the member's residence there were other workers doing painting, Spackle, and moving furniture. Even after our work was completed. Also, to further satisfy the customer, we agreed to deduct money from the final invoice as a "good will" gesture."
