Chris came back ahead of schedule to start work on our upstairs bedroom. All the demo was done in one day and he cleaned up very well. Before he started the demo he covered my hardwood floors perfectly and took great care not to let anything happen to them. Next, he had to run the electrical from the basement to the second floor. He had to go through a wall on the first floor (dining room) and you would never even know he did - he repaired the wall flawlessly. Back to the bedroom-he installed the new windows, the insulation, the high hat lights, and put up the new sheetrock. We have a wide line cape which is not dormered, so we have weird angles in the upstairs bedroom ceilings. Chris did an amazing job squaring off the room and getting those angles perfectly straight. It looks incredible. We also have a crawl space in this bedroom toward the back of the house and a small storage space toward the front of the house. Chris made special doors for these closet areas and they look great. He also installed new door frames, doors, base molding, and window moldings. We painted the bedroom ourselves, so once we were done Chris came back to put on the light covers, install the ceiling fan, and put on the outlet and switch covers. Unfortunately because of the way our house settled, this bedroom's floor is uneven and we noticed that the crib is on a bit of an incline because of this. Chris suggested furniture leveling feet and offered to come back and do it himself to make sure everything was level. He has really gone above and beyond. Chris has proven himself to be completely reliable and extremely proficient in his craft. Good combination! Plus he's a really nice guy! Next for us will be finishing the basement (hopefully this year - 2014), since we'll need the extra play space with our little one on the way! Then it will be on to our next big project - the kitchen (hopefully next year)! I'll have Chris on speed dial :-)
Description of Work: I previously wrote a review about the work that Chris did in our bathroom, and indicated he would be back to do a bedroom. Chris came back and did an amazing job on our new nursery. The room was gutted to the studs, new insulation was put in, new sheetrock for walls and ceilings, new electrical including a wall air conditioner, new doors and moldings, and new windows.
It went very smoothly. They were on time every day and the job lasted the exact amount of days promised. Every question I had was answered promptly and clearly. I was referred to suppliers for what I needed and guided with what to purchase from the tiles, tub, etc. That was my biggest fear. Not knowing what to do, what to buy, what the final costs would be. They were a big help and put me at ease through the process of preparing for the remodel. Absolutely no glitches during the job. None at all. My bathroom still looks brand new 3 years later and I couldn't be happier. Excellent workmanship. Definitely using these guys for my kitchen next year.
Description of Work: Complete remodel of bathroom. New walls, ceiling, floor, installation of new toilet, tub, cabinets, tile, lighting.

Chris seemed like exactly the person that was described in other reviews posted here, which was precisely why I contacted him. He returned my initial phone call promptly, showed up promptly for our meeting and seemed genuinely professional and knowledgeable. He made some helpful suggestions while taking down his own notes. Chris said that he would have an estimate for me within a week, which I thought was very reasonable. And then nothing else...in the 3 weeks after we met, he did not reply to any of my three phone calls or my one, final email attempt. I was real surprised at the about-face in behavior and, honestly, I thought he might have run in to some sudden personal situation that demanded his attention. ( We reluctantly moved on to another contractor, who did a great job on our reno.) I would not have posted anything at all because we really thought this went beyond contractor indifference and that something must have changed Chris' plans. However, I now see a couple of glowing recommendations dated right after our experience. Therefore, despite all the positive reviews, and the seemingly genuine and regular guy he appeared to be to me, the bottom line is that he did not have the decency to at least text me to say he wasn't interested. My parent went without a handicap-accessible bathroom for a couple months longer than we planned, but it eventually got done. Hope all is well with Chris.
Description of Work: I met with Chris in late August 2013 to discuss a full demo and re-do of a second floor bathroom and some minor renovations on a first floor bathroom (grab bars, widened accrss doorway and hand held shower installation). Also inquired about the possibility of a wheelchair ramp for front of house to accommodate a parent who was soon to move in with us.

Chris did an exceptional job- I highly recommend him! He is professional: expert craftsmanship, a keen attention to detail, gave great suggestions, and thoroughly answered all of our questions He is hardworking: he was on time every single day - he got to the house first thing in the monring and worked the entire day He is honest: the price he quotes you is the price - no surprises! He'll write up a contract detailing the exact work to be done and how much it will cost - very straightforward **************************************************************************************************************************************** My husband and I are new homeowners and when we bought our house we knew we would have work to do little by little. We feel very lucky that we found Chris through Angie's list right away. Before I joined Angie's list I dealt with many other contractors, who happened to be referrals, that either did not show up when they said they would, or did not return phone calls, etc. It was very frustrating. Luckily they were all very flaky from the beginning and I never actually hired any of them. During my search for a contractor, I was also doing a lot of research on bathroom remodels - the best materials to use, what things should cost, and what I wanted. When I called Chris for an estimate, we set up an appointment. He called the day before to confirm the appointment and showed up right on time. He was right on point as far as materials and cost and he did exactly what I had envisioned for our bathroom. Can you do a bathroom cheaper? Yes - but why would you want a cheaply done bathroom that you're going to have to do over again in a few years? Do it once the right way the first time and you'll save money in the long run - and have a quality bathroom that will last you for a very long time that you won't have to worry about. We have plans for him to come back and re-do a bedroom. After that we look forward to hiring him to finish our basement and eventually remodeling our kitchen. Chris is going to be our go-to contractor for many years to come. We are so happy we found someone who is so trustworthy and so good at what they do because he will be who we call upon for all of our future home projects. I don't have to worry about doing a ton of research to find the right person for every job, because we already found him! I really cannot say enough good things about Chris - but do your own research and due diligience and I guarantee you'll decide on him too!
Description of Work: Complete bathroom remodel - gutted bathroom down to the studs, put in new sheetrock, lighting, electrical, tiles; installed customer supplied tub, toilet, sink, medicine cabinet; put in new window, moldings, entry door, and linen closet door

Overall Performance I could not be happier with the work performed by Chris and his assistant. He arrived every day at 7:50 in the morning and stayed all day. Everything on the above lists were performed brilliantly. I could not imagine it being done any better. I had thought that with the amount of plumbing and electrical work that Chris would be subcontracting out these jobs, but Chris was able to perform all these functions like a professional. 4 new circuits needed to be added to my electric panel and Chris handled it all without any disruption to the household. I am totally pleased with every aspect of the project right down to the way the sheetrock was left for painting as well as the look of the tiles. Planning ahead means no skinny a** tiles here! Like any project, some unforeseen issues arose during the process which were handled by Chris. The only additional charge above what was agreed upon, was a $200 charge for a difficult pipe reroute. That brought the total payment to $15,000. Because I chose to select all my materials myself, my payment to Chris was for his basic supplies and labor. I believe the finished product was well worth the price. Chris is highly recommended.
Description of Work: Complete remodel of 2 adjoining bathrooms with the aim of reducing the size of the main bath from 11' by 5' to 7' by 5', thereby using the reclaimed space to enlarge the master bedroom bath to include a shower.

Unfortunately, what stopped us from moving forward was his availability -we had a specific time frame to start the job and he couldn't squeeze us in . We liked Chris so much that we are considering holding off the work until he is available at a time that works with us
Description of Work: We contacted Chris to provide us with an estimate for a bathroom remodel . He called us back right away to set up an appointment . On the day of our appointment Chris was punctual and professional . He listened to us carefully and made some very helpfully suggestions. He told us, he only does one job at a time and he is on the site all the time . This was very important to us Chris is very patient, he answered all of our questions and did not rush us at all. Before he left, Chris took notes and measurements of our bathroom before he left

If you want excellent work and perfection then this company is for you. My husband and I were fortunate enough to have been given Chris name as a recommendation when we remodeled our kitchen and small bath two years ago.We are currently using Complete Carpentry again to gut/remodel two bathrooms, replace windows, and change doors. From "soup to nuts" the job is being done with complete ease. There is no hassle ,no extra charges, or scary surprises when you work with this company . Chris, the owner, is working at every job and his workers are just as responsible as he is. They are neat as they work, cleaning up after everyday. Chris is always punctual arriving at the house at 7:50 am everyday to start at 8am. His costs are right in line with his competition, but his work is far superior! He doesn't sub contract so his work is his own, and he stands behind it. He offers helpful suggestions and stays in budget while being honest about everything. He takes my calls, listens to my questions and doesn't run out of patience when I change things last minute! Don't waste your time worrying about "nightmare contractors", complete carpentry is the opposite! I have recommended at least ten people and they have all been satisfied!

Chris came highly recommended from friends who have used him in the past to remodel bathrooms and kitchens. Everyone we spoke to spoke extremely highly of Chris, his help and his craftsmanship. We had received many other estimates prior to the estimate we received from Chris and we taking back by such the high price to finish a basement and the amount of time it would take to complete the project. The estimates average around $5,500-$7,000 and the estimated time of the project was about two weeks. We almost decided to forgo the finishing of the basement and then we met with Chris. His estimate was much lower and estimated it would take about 5 days to complete the project. We decided to move foward with the project. About a month after agreeing to use Chris he arrived at our house nice and early and got to work immediately. He explained exactly what he was doing througout the project and made suggestions as well. Before we knew it our new basement was finished. It was Thursday and the project was complete, took him only 4 days. My wife and kids and I are extremely happy to have such a great basement to use as a playroom. I look foward to using Chris in the future to redo our bathrooms and kitchen.

This was an excellent experience overall. Contractor completed the remodeling within the parameters of the original estimate. Work was very professional. Workers came to work everyday until the job was completed. They cleaned up at the end of each day and contained dust to the work area while remodeling. The job include a total rip out to the studs, all the plumbing and electrical work, heated floor, crown moldings, and much more. This man is the ultimate technician. His work is impeccable. He was super reliable, paid attention to detail, supplied us with great ideas and finished on time with minimum mess. His helper totally cleaned up after each day of work and promptly arrived at 7:50 every single day. He's not cheap, but you get what you pay for and he was totally worth the $. chris took on a job to replace a front door and do plastering and painting inside our house. His price was very good, and he seemed like a nice guy. He sent us to his supplier to order a door, pay for it and put it in his account for delivery. We did this. We then never heard from him again. We left 10-15 phone messages and he never responded. Once we caught him on his cellphone, and he said he would call back but never did. We were also told by the supplier that they have been trying to track him down because other materials ordered for his customers were sitting in the warehouse for weeks. He may be a great carpenter and he may have great prices, but he is either completely unreliable or completely unresponsive or both. Good luck with him.

As a point of reference, six months earlier, we had Major Homes replace the stairs going to our basement. The door to the basement was in the kitchen and we wanted it to be moved to the dining room. We picked out beautiful oak doors (one french with glass) to match the 80 year old door in the entrance and had them frame the doors with oak. Not only did Major Homes charge too much, but their work was crappy. The oak miters were pathetic. There was an eighth inch gap which they filled in with dark wood putty. I scraped it out and complained that I didn't spend all that money on oak so that it could look like junk. "You're going to stain it dark right?" was the reply. Losers. They eventually came and fixed the miter joint, but the other joints are only marginally acceptable. Do NOT use Major Homes. They will send some shlep to do the work. You will overpay and be disappointed in the work. We also had to pay about $1000 for the electrical lines that needed to be replaced because some lights had to be moved (not included in their estimate) Now back to Chris: CHRIS IS GREAT! He is experienced in doing virtually everything related to remodeling a kitchen or basement. He is a perfectionist who takes tremendous pride in his work. The only wall in our house that is flat is the one that Chris built. There are no 90 degree angles in this house. It's beautiful, but it was built in 1930 and I guess they didn't know about right angles back then. Regardless, Chris made the cabinets fit. He installed the cabinets, a new vinyl tile floor and underlayment, installed the new light fixtures, the sink and faucet, etc. Broke through the brick wall to allow the duct from the hood to be vented. The whole shebang. The only parts of the original kitchen that remained were the windows and a couple door frames. Everything was done perfectly. Chris helped out in various decisions regarding what we ought to buy and in the design of things. He came when he said he would. This was not an easy job because old houses like ours have innate difficulties attached to them. Chris knew just what to do in every situation. My wife and I feel blessed to have found Chris to do this work (Thank you Angie's List!). We spent about $70,000 in the course of the past year fixing things that we had been putting off for decades. We had (1) Major Homes, (2) Rolando and his relatives and (3) Chris do significant renovations. Chris stood out as the consummate professional. If I had known about Chris to begin with, I would never have had anyone else do the work. I'm running out of ways to describe how wonderful he was. He is really, really careful about everything. His work reflects the idea that he does what he would want done in his own home. He doesn't cut corners. If you are thinking about remodeling a kitchen or basement or whatever, you absolutely have to call Chris. There is no bull with Chris. He's not trying to sell you anything. He's a great guy who will do what he says and charge what he says. Our new kitchen is drop-dead gorgeous. We couldn't be happier. Use Complete Carpentry! If Chris is busy and you have to wait a month or two or three: wait. You won't be sorry.
Description of Work: We decided to consider having the kitchen in our 1930 semi-attached brick tudor in Bayside remodeled. Chris came and gave us some ideas about what we could do and recommended Consumers for cabinets. He told us that the whole thing could be done for about $25K. This seemed pretty low to us. We went to Consumers and spoke to Keith about the cabinets and after much indecision (several months worth) we made our move. Chris charged about $9000. The other $20,000 was cabinets (9), floor(1), new stainless steel refrigerator (counter depth), dishwasher, vented range hood and stove (5), sink, faucet, etc. The entire thing came to about $29,000. Chris had to build a new wall (an old one was found to be rotten) and lower the ceiling by a few inches so high-hats would fit it. We also had him install a new rear entry door and storm door ($650). He charged a mere $250 to rebuild the wall and $200 for the ceiling. There were NO extra charges for the new electrical lines, circuit breaker or plumbing that had to be done. The price he quoted was the final price, except for the few surprises we discovered in our 80 year old house.

We are in the process of making a decision. His estimate is based on what the cabinets would cost. He would give us a final estimate after he sees where exactly the cabinets are to be installed. He looked around and told us what would be involved. He also gave us some recommendations and gave a ballpark figure of $25,000. We were very impressed with him. He put us in touch with the person who had made designs in the past. The design is in the works.

Chris and his crew were on time everyday. They worked Monday through Friday from 8-5 until the job was complete. They were neat and cleaned up everyday. I didn't need to vacuum after them, they did it themselves! When they gutted the bathroom, they took all the garbage with them. The bathroom and the basement both turned out beautifully. Chris was very accommodating of any requests I made. He is reasonable and most importantly, he is honest. I will definitely be using Chris in the future for my kitchen remodeling project.
Description of Work: Chris renovated my bathroom. It was a complete rip out. Chris also finished my basement.
