Scott has refused to hire professionals to accomplish the work. He is rather difficult to get in touch with and he disappeared for about a month. Scott started this job in April and progress is slow. I'm upset that he hasn't hired professionals and refuses to listen to my wishes. He also threatened me with an expensive change order when I brought up wanting him to hire professionals. I feel like I'm in the middle of a bad joke.
Description of Work: I hired Scott to be the contractor in charge of removing my crushed porch and installing a new, repairing the roof, installing the gutters, and repairing damage from a fallen tree.

Response from Scott Wilson inc.
On 4-5-13 my firm signed a contract with [Member Name] to rebuild her storm damaged front porch. A tree had fallen on it during Hurricane Sandy. It was pretty much a pile of rubble when we got there. The contract was detailed as to what my firm would be responsible for and what [Member Name] would be responsible for. My firm has lived up to our end of the bargain and then some. [Member Name] wishes to amend our contract in the final hour. However, she does not want to pay for that amendment. [Member Name] received a fixed price for a specific quantity of work and agreed to allow my firm to complete the work as we see fit, provided we follow all codes and licensing laws. We have done so. As per New York State law, [Member Name] told us what to do and where to do it. She cannot tell us how to do it or when to do it. We were six days away from completion when [Member Name] asked us to stop working. [Member Name] is correct that he job was on the back burner for several weeks, however, [Member Name] also received a $2000 discount on her contract price if we were allowed to work on other jobs. That is in her contract. Even then, we were at her house almost every day to check up on things and we were working off site on her job to schedule the framing inspection and Fire Underwriters Certificate required by the Town of Huntington before her project could be close out. We communicated with her regularly and updated the status of our actions. We were on vacation from August 2 to the 14th but we started in early and had a meeting with [Member Name] on Tuesday the 13th. We made all our clients aware of our vacation plans well in advance. This was no surprise to [Member Name] and it is deceptive and defamatory for her to suggest our vacation was in anyway an abandonment of the job. As to the use of “professionals” on our jobs, I can assure you that there are few firms that are more skilled and professional than ours. I have spent the last 32 years renovation houses. I am a Certified Remodeler and my firm is registered with the EPA to work on structure built before 1987. I have poured concrete, framed, sided, painted, trimmed, roofed, wired and plumber countless structures over my career. I am a 54 year old master carpenter, master cabinetmaker and builder who swings a hammer 30 hours a week. I am an Associate Kitchen and Bath designer, speak fluent Spanish, have a degree in economics and I am a member of the Deming Institute for Quality Control. My assistant has worked with me for 13 years. I have run a licensed and insured construction company on the North Shore of Long Island for 17 years. If that doesn’t make us “professional”, I don’t know what will. I personally went to [Member Name]’s house, forensically dismantled her debris and rebuilt her porch exactly the same as it had been built in 1928. Go to my Facebook page, Scott D. Wilson.9 and see the progress of her job. It is some of the best work I have ever done. I have enclosed a copy of the contract Ms. Darrow signed as well as legal paperwork and a current bill. As of 9-25-13 her balance is $13,445 including $530 in returned check fees when [Member Name] bounced a $9000 check on our firm. We feel [Member Name] is no longer working in good faith and we do not feel we will get paid at the end of the job. Therefore, under New York State law, we are able to require that this bill is paid in full before we continue. We have advised [Member Name] to discuss her contract with her lawyer. If you speak with [Member Name] please remind her she has 118 lineal feet of millwork in our shop and has contractually agreed to pay $2 per lineal foot per day to store it pending resolution of her breach of contract. That is a rate of $1652 per week. It adds up fact. Thank you for your attention to this matter. We hope to resolve this quickly. Sincerely, Scott Wilson PS I am often called on by friends and neighbors to offer my opinion on a construction project that has gone off the rails. The first question I ask is, “What does your contract say?” Usually I get an answer something like, “Well the contract says, XYandZ. But don’t you think it should be ABandC.” I like to remind everyone that it doesn’t matter what you think it should be, contracts mean something. They have consequences. Sit down, read the contract and discuss each sentence with your lawyer or partner. A good contract will give you a lot of guidance. Reading it and understanding it can save you a lot of grief. This is why they call is contacting. cc J. Garth Foley esq Roger Whitehead

He was very reliable, organized, and dependable. I was able to leave him in my house to get the work done. I would use him again. His price is a little high, but he has great quality. He is very friendly too.
Description of Work: He renovated 2 bathrooms for me. He remodeled everything down to the stud in these 2 bathrooms.
