First, the good. Mr. Warner did a good job on the roof itself - he used quality Owens Corning products, and the materials matched the specs and color choices we chose and paid for. The roof looks very good, and has been problem-free for the two months it has been in place. Now, the bad. All the little things that surround a job like this were not nearly at the same quality the roof was. Mr. Warner insists on working alone most of the time, only using helpers for manual chores - roof removal, hauling debris, site clean up, etc. While he prides himself on being the skill behind every nail, this causes the job to go very slowly. His estimate of two to three days for our roof in reality stretched out over a week, which may not be an issue, depending on your needs. This was due to a personal issue he was dealing with as well as a scheduling conflict for a roofing job he was doing for our neighbor, and was forgivable since it didn't impact us much. What did give us a negative opinion was all the little things, and some not so little things. There was not a lot of communication from him as to when he would be on site if he didn't show when promised. While my wife and brother-in-law were taking a tour of the outside and looking at our new roof, they discovered our sidewalk had been damaged, with one pad cracked diagonally in half. We mentioned this to Mr. Warner, and he explained that ABC Building Supply had damaged the walk during delivery of materials. I was disappointed this had not been brought to our attention when it happened. Mr. Warner claimed he had warned the young delivery driver not to place a support arm on the pad, but he did anyway, and when it broke the driver acknowledged it was the driver's fault. Mr. Warner explained I was to call ABC to discuss it with them and it would be taken care of. When we called ABC Supply, they acknowledged the incident, but claimed the damage was due to Mr. Warner's insistence on the placement of the truck, and disavowed any responsibility. They further said Mr. Warner had signed a document acknowledging responsibility. I asked for a copy of that document, which ABC Supply agreed to fax to me. It turned out to be the receipt for the delivery of the shingles, which Mr. Warner had signed. In very small print there was a disclaimer on that sheet saying when you signed for delivery of materials, the signer assumed all liability for any damages from delivery. We then had to tell Mr. Warner this, but he assured us he'd get it straightened out with ABC Supply. After two days, Mr. Warner called to say ABC wouldn't agree to pay for repairs, so Mr. Warner would fix the concrete himself. He set a date to repair it, and then never showed up. It is now too cold to perform concrete work, but I plan on attempting to get him to pay for professional repairs. Beyond that issue: 1) We've found many nails in our mulch beds surrounding the house. I don't think we're finished finding them. 2) Gerald's work truck leaked gas like a sieve. He would sometimes place a piece of cardboard under the truck in a futile attempt to contain the mess, but often forgot to. I mentioned to him not so jokingly that his truck had caused an environmental disaster with all the gas leaked on our asphalt driveway and in the street in front of our house. He explained he was trying to fix the issue himself, but hadn't been successful. Luckily for us, this was not a huge issue since we are planning on replacing the driveway soon. 3) His nephew installed our bathroom fans. The new fans were smaller than our original fans. The gentleman was not able to perform the finishing work necessary to complete the job, nor was he able to provide referrals for anyone capable of following up on this issue, and as of this writing we still have ceiling drywall work needed to finish the install of the fans. He had warned us the fans would cause this issue, however. 4) The master bath fan did not work after the work was complete, and it required a return visit to get the the problem corrected. A cover on the exhaust pipe for the fan had not been removed. I learned a valuable lesson - never make the final payment until absolutely EVERY detail of the job is complete.
Description of Work: Replaced original roof (architectural shingles), and replaced two bathroom vent fans and vented them to the outside as part of the roofing work.
