We separate and compost all our kitchen vegetable waste, so we had not had to have our kitchen drain pipe cleaned in nearly 12 years. There was no blockage of shower or clothes washer drains, only the kitchen. We had cleaned out items stored beneath the kitchen sink, and removed the cabinet doors before Cory arrived. He set up quickly, using clean towels where his AC-powered snake might travel. After freeing the drain, he flushed it and cleaned any woodwork or tile where his equipment was used. My Roto-Rooter discount coupon did not apply, but Cory was able to use a $25 discount coupon online for his work. In settling the bill, he explained the 3 warranty options clearly. I chose the middle option, which warrants the kitchen drain pipe for a year, and if any other house drain is clogged within that year, the policy can be upgraded for only $100 to pay for that (those) drain(s) to also be snaked and flushed. He was able to accept a charge card for payment. Total time at our home was about 45 minutes.
Description of Work: The kitchen drain was backed up so we could not run the dishwasher or disposal. Roto Rooter came out within about 4 hours of our call. Technician Cory cleared and flushed the drain pipe using about 25 feet of 3/8" snake.

We called RR on a Sunday afternoon, and they were out within the hour! Not only did he unplug the issue under the house, but he reran the snake several times to be sure the "gunk" was gone and the line unplugged. We decided to pay for a year's worth of service on the entire house, he gave us a coupon, and it was quite inexpensive (375.00)! Any plug, anytime, anywhere, and they will come take care of it at no extra cost. At the end of our year, we can renew it for half what we originally paid ($150), same deal, any plug, anytime, anywhere, no extra charge. I'm very happy with this service. We've had plugs every year for the past 15 years minimally twice a year, and each time we've rented the snake from Home Depot at over $75 a pop, and had to do the dirty work ourselves. This is SO worth it!

"Jetter" would not be available for 5 days but a tech came out within 2 hours. He said only main drains could be jetted; climbed on roof and used roto-rooter; found a 45 degree bend in the way and had to come inside and disassemble pipes under the sink. Used roto-rooter from below sink with success. Since we have the house up for sale, I bought a one-year "guarantee" covering service for all drains in the house, no deductibles. Transferrable to new owner; renewal $150 annually. He left a gallon jug of "Pipe Shield" enzymatic cleaner good for 64 drain treatments, which will last us about 6 months. A similar product (Flo-Kem 5195) is $18 on Amazon.com.

plumber David said he didn't have a supply line for the toilet so he had to go by his house to get one. After completing the job, I tested the sink faucets and one of the drain stoppers did not hold, so he failed to test them and I had to ask him to fix it. VERY expensive repair for what he did - he didn't come prepared and didn't check his work. Now several months later, one of the faucets has come loose and the stopper on the other faucet is broken. I will never call Roto-Rooter again.

I called Roto-Rooter with two very simple questions which every plumber provides, their hourly rate and their availability. It was a weekday morning around 9:00 am. Roto-rooter started by asking my name and address. I gave them my address, and then reiterated my questions about their availability and rate. Despite this, the woman on the phone, who didn't seem to be from Albuquerque, kept prompting me for the spelling of my street address, my zip code and my full name. I asked why she needed the information. She replied that they don't give quotes over the phone, but that they offered free onsite estimates. I've had it snaked several times before and it's under an hour of work, and I informed her of this. I stated that if she couldn't provide an answer she wouldn't be getting the job. (If they can't give me an hourly rate for a simple job like snaking a drain, given that their name is Roto-Rooter, I don't hire them.) She insisted on the "free onsite estimate," and at that point I told her I wasn't interested--and ended the conversation without ceremony, figuring that would be the end of it. It would have been, if they didn't call back later to again insult my intelligence. (I made two calls to plumbers I had used before, one for a furnace, the other for general plumbing. I got quick rates and availability from each and hired the one who could do it the same day. They finished the job in under half an hour, which is what I expected.) Two hours after I had first called Roto-Rooter, I received a second phone call from a different person who apologized and offered to do the work that day. I wasn't interested, I had a plumber due to arrive in minutes. She offered me $20 off their usual rate. Out of amusement, I asked what that "usual rate" was, since at no point had Roto-Rooter given me their rate. She reiterated what the first woman said, adding, "they like to leave it to their technician." What good is $20 off an unquoted price? At this point, Roto-Rooter is again wasting my time with the unprofessionalism of their business model. They called back to double down on the insult--and that's when they earned this review. The job is snaking a drain--theirs if they wanted it for an hourly rate and their availability. It's a simple job, and a simpler question.
Description of Work: I needed a kitchen sink drain snaked and cleaned. It was totally clogged, so time was a bit more important than price. I've had it done in the past, but the plumber who normally did it was unavailable.

Response from Roto-Rooter Plumbing & Drain Services
My name is Kris Hessinger and I am the General Manager for the Roto-Rooter Franchise here in Albuquerque. I listened to your phone call with our CSR that day. Our CSR did have a hard time understanding your Street name and asked you to repeat it several times, for this I apologize and know we have made corrections on this as well as letting customers know our availability on service times. Unfortunately we get in more trouble giving out our prices over the phone than giving them on the job, for this reason I cannot change. I am sorry we were not able to get to service your home, first impressions are everything and we are working hard to improve ours every day. Thank you for the review it will make us better! First man came and was unable to clear line after 1 1/2 hours. Said supervisor would come with better equipment in am. Supervisor came but did not have any other equipment. Also failed to clear drain. Said I had a broken line and would need 2800 to fix it. Didn't make sense to me. Called Bill's Sewer service. Brought a longer snake and cleared the line for 160.00 Sent a letter to President of company asking for a partial refund. Never heard from them. VERY DISAPPOINTED. LATER ADDITION: Company called and credited my account for the full fee.
Description of Work: Called Roto Rooter to clear sewer drain.
The tech stuck to the estimate and did the work above and beyond what I believe he expected. He was professional and courteous. Now we don't use plumbers very often (4 times in about 10 years), but Rotorooter seemed to be the best in "owning" the problem and seeing it through to completion. We had used three different companies before, and only one of the previous three met expectations without "up charges". We would have used that company again, except this was a sewer based problem and it just seemed the name recognition associated with "sewer" may have been more up their alley. Anyway, I was very happy with the experience and their technician. Particularly when there were no upcharges on the work. It is almost as important for a company to stick to the estimate as the overall work and completion. So I would rate them highly and definitely will use them again, even for more routine plumbing services.
Description of Work: Resolved a clog from house in sewer to septic. Tech did a good job of diagnosing and resolving a problem. He provided an estimate and stuck to the estimate even though he ran into some unexpected issues. We had clean outs installed some years ago so I imagine it was going to be a quick 'rotoroot' the problem away. Well that didn't work, and the tech (Jaye) had to come inside, remove a toilet, and do a clean out from there. This worked and he replaced the toilet, and the sewer pipe was back in business again..

They were quite good and I was surprised. They came very soon after I called even though it was nearly end of the shift for the person who came. He recognized right away that it was probably a tree root problem that was blocking the drain. He had to use a special approach to do it because there was no duct to king of clean out. He had to go down through the vent pipe in the roof but he was very good with that. He was good at it and he stayed in a good mood. He succeeded in which earlier in the day I had someone else out who had not known the problem and not fixed it. They were responsive and it's not as expensive as I had expected.

I recently purchased a home. The tub in the master bedroom was clogged (which I knew in advance). I had TLC come out, but they were not able to resolve the problem with a drain snake, and were unwilling to run a snake from the second floor roof air vent for liability reasons. This was annoying but understandable. The next day I called Roto Rooter. I explained the situation explicitly asked if they would run a snake from the second floor air vent and they said they would. The price was almost triple what TLC charged ($230 vs. $85). I was told this would cover the cost of clearing the drain. I explicitly explained that a snake did not work for TLC, and that a air vent snake would likely be required. They wanted to try a snake through the tub first anyway. Three hours and a couple specialists later, they had a very slow drain going, but didn't actually resolve the problem. They told me that for an additional $155 for another hour of their time, they could try going on the roof and running a snake through the air vent. If they had tried the air vent in the first place and it didn't work I would have understood, but three hours and $230 to get to where I started with no mention of time limits (I would have happily paid them full price if they finished in five minutes) in the initial negotiation isn't fair. I ended up not accepting their offer because I lost confidence in them. I negotiated the price down to $155 for work done. My biggest complaint is they did not listen. I explicitly explained the issue, but they insisted on trying something that already failed, and were surprised when it didn't work for them either. For the next plumber I try, I think I'm going to have them sign an agreement that time spent on a snake through the tub will not be paid for if results are not produced.

We called this company to clean out our kitchen/laundry drain pipe, which was draining sluggishly. The plumber they sent out got the snake stuck in the pipe and had to leave it there overnight. This plumber assured us that we would not be charged for the removal of the snake. The next day, the company sent two different plumbers, who removed a section of three-inch cast-iron pipe in our crawl space to get the snake out, and discovered that it had punched a hole in our pipe. They blamed the incident on the condition of the pipe, charged us $350 to replace the pipe section they'd cut out, and refused to finish clearing the drain unless we paid them $200/hour to have them camera the pipes for a couple of hours. When they left, the drain was as bad as ever. In short, we paid $350 for this company to come knock a hole in our pipe and then fix it. Upon later, independent investigation, the clog in the drain was about a foot beyond the section of pipe they replaced, and easily cleaned out.
Description of Work: We called this company to have a slow kitchen/laundry room drain cleared. Instead they ended up removing and replacing a section of 3 inch, cast-iron pipe.

Our house is a major recent remodel of an older home. It is in the North Valley near the river; thus the entire home is built on a concrete slab and the plumbing in the older part of the house is original (i.e. not replaced during the remodel since it's embedded in the original slab). The drains in the older part of the house were backing up, probably because of the mysterious activities of our two year-old son...he mentioned something about a dinosaur he flushed... A popular local radio show advertises a year-long guarantee with Roto-Rooter and a 10% discount, so we called. That being said, this review is best given in two parts: a review of the plumber's services and a review of the administrative services. The plumber was out right away, cleared the drains, gave us the discount, and left. He even cleaned out the bathtub with soap and bleach! Bravo. But the drains started backing up again a few months later, right after Christmas. We called Roto-Rooter again to avail ourselves of the year-long guarantee, but they insisted on charging us for the second visit. The plumber had checked the 90-day guarantee box on the receipt for services without mentioning it (I know, buyer beware; I should have noticed and asked about it then), and even though I explained that I originally scheduled service because of the radio advertisement's 1-year guarantee, the dispatcher would not honor it. She said the length of the service guarantee was at the plumber's discretion. I initially scheduled the service and paid more for the service because I felt secure with a 1-year guarantee. You can get the equivalent service for $80-90 from other plumbers. When the promises made by the radio advertisement were not honored, I felt cheated and somewhat duped. I called another plumber, Albuquerque Plumbing, Heating, and Cooling, and they also came out right away, cleared the drains, gave me a %10 discount for using Angie's List, and told me that because of the age of the plumbing, they could not provide a guarantee. The drain service was excellent, and the plumber even replaced a corroded connector piece on our kitchen drain.
Description of Work: Drain clearing of back-up, probably because our 2-year old flushed a toy down the toilet AND the plumbing is old.

Could not have gone better.
Description of Work: We had a sewer line in our basement burst on a Saturday evening. We called Roto Router for emergency service. A representative arrived within 45 minutes. He examined the pipes, and said that we needed four new feet of piping and that it would take about 4 hours to do if they couldn't use an expandable plug to solve the problem. He gave us an estimate of about $800, which I thought was reasonable. Work was scheduled for Monday morning. The technician called mid-morning and arrived by 11:00. The problem was fixed with an expandable plug in about an hour. The final bill was $187.

We called Roto-rooter Sunday afternoon to remove a clog that was causing backups in both of our toilets and showers. We were given an estimate over the phone for the job, and were told that somebody would be able to come out that night. One guy came out at ~6pm, to assess the situation, but determined that the job was going to require two people. So, he left and two guys came out at ~8 pm and immediately went to work after assessing potential alternatives to clearing out the drain from the roof (2-man job that cost ~$100 more than single man job). The drain was cleared out within ~45 minutes, and everything has worked since the clog was removed.

First of all, let me say that I have used this company for years at this property and my own. They are always prompt and professional. I have never gotten prices from any other company because and quot;when I need a plumber, I need a plumber badand quot; and don't have time for other estimates. But, I feel they have always been fair when it comes to the bill. The tech performed the work and got the tub and sink draining again. He cleaned up the work area and left the site spotless.
Description of Work: The main bathtub and sink were not draining and I called for a cleaning. After a few attempts to "snake" the line unsuccessfuly, the tech crawled under the house to find an old barrel/drum trap. These traps are no longer code and the tech recommended that it be replaced with a standard "P" trap, which I agreed to. The next day he came back and performed the work.

They arrived on time and worked until the job was finished. Good, courteous workers.
Description of Work: Replaced about 30 feet of main sewer line using trenchless method. The old line was clogged with tree roots and crushed in places. This part of the sewer line was between the house and the street. The line ran beneath a brick walk, so the trenchless method kept digging to a minimum. I had used them 7 years ago to replace another section of the sewer line and they did a good job then.

Went good. I don't know what i'd change except to request him to come with his regular truck that he's familiar with so he'd have thread dope along instead of tape.
Description of Work: Not a drain problem. Galvanized 2" pipes on my 9 yr old radiant heat boiler and pump unit located in my garage were badly corroded with crummy Rio Rancho water over last 8 yrs and were leaking (sweating) at a couple of joints. Tech did a good job replacing necessary fittings and nipples with new. He didn't have any plumbers thread dope along for the joint seals and so used teflon tape which he kept having problems with leaking. But he stuck with it until no leaks. Evidently his normal truck was in for service'repairs so he was using a different Roto Rooter fleet truck without his normal tools and stock.

The parts Roto Rooter provided were extremely poor quality and were soon spewing water everywhere!!!! Roto Rooter was on-time. They charged much higher prices than other plumbers in town, however the valves they installed were extremely cheap and failed in barely over a year. Roto Rooter used valves with plastic/nylon internal components, and of an outdated design which is highly prone to failure. Barely over a year later, the parts leaked profusely. These parts required re-replacement, by a different plumber, at much lower cost, using valves made of better materials and a superior design. The high prices Roto Rooter charges must be to cover their national advertising budget, because the parts they choose are horrificly cheap. There is no excuse for this because much better parts are readily available at low cost.
Description of Work: Replaced 3 valves on fill lines to toilets (parts provided by Roto Rooter). Also installed 2 faucets on sinks (parts provided by homeowner).
