Terrible. I previously gave Steve a great review and I apologize to my Ridgewood NJ neighbors if anyone has engaged him because of my good review. (I will cross reference this review on Steve Glazer which is a misspelling of his name.) I should have caught on when he originally told me my storm door installation would be what Lowe's charged. He charged $220 and actually broke the lock blaming bad manufacturing -- I somewhat believed him and I'm still trying to get a new lock from Lowe's.....but I wasn't blaming him yet. Through Angie's list I interviewed several "contractors" to do a basic remodel of a guest bathroom. Prices ranged from 8 - 10K - and then when I balked I started getting lower estimates. Single Solution Construction gave me a quote of $3800 (with me paying for all fixtures, paint, toilet, etc. and keeping the tub intact) but the day when they showed up - said they wanted $900 more if I wanted the 30 s/f floor replaced -- so I cancelled the job. Steve was replacing the storm door when this happened and he said he was interested in the work. I gave him the Single Solution Construction contract, and told him if he matched it with the inclusion of the floor he had the job. I was willing to pay a little more but not $900. That was 10/30/2013. He wasn't available until the day after Christmas. So I spent all of the next two weeks with him appearing at my home at 8 in the morning. So this is what happened....I asked if I could incorporate the closet next to the bath into the design. He wanted $500, I said (which was true) I was quoted $200 to do it, but I would agree to $300. He needed to move the house audio system and I suspected that it would be moved and no longer working afterwards, and that's what happened. He did not paint the interior. OK I said I'd do it. I bought all the tile, and grout from Newark's Tile Warehouse and had it at the house. He chipped badly one of the tiles when he installed the corner shelf. I pointed it out to him the next day and when I said, I would never accept that - he complained that the tile was soft (Italian ceramic tile - nothing fancy). But he redid it. The ceiling tiles are a bit out of line and he complained that they were too difficult to work with -- then i discovered that the shower pipe that connects the shower head was badly scratch - I asked him, was a plier used without rubber heads? He said it was old but he would replace it, no big deal......then I had purchased a new ceiling tub light fixture to replace the one there....he didn't replace it. I had purchased porcelain tile for the floor - what is similar to wood flooring. Sandless grout is used because it is supposed to be laid right next to each other. It is heavy substantial tile. Well, he laid it as if it was regular tile so the grout had to be returned and replaced. It still looks great but was laid wrong. Then came the re-installation of my Delta faucet fixtures on the granite sink vanity. They were not inexpensive and aren't that old, they are now leaking. I asked him why, he said "someone stripped them" -- well the only person who stripped them was himself! My housekeeper was furious when she saw it because as she said, "those faucets never leaked"....Steve began complaining about everything....how to dispose of the debris - I showed him the contract where he was supposed to do so.....he began shaking his head - "why did I ever agree to this?" I knew I was in trouble. In other words he has walked off the job. Leaving me to paint the bathroom, repair the nail holes and the molding he chipped. Hire someone to replace my faucets and REMOVE ALL THE DEBRIS he left in my garage! I waited expecting him to call me, with some recognition that he had agreed to do the work and would complete it. Instead I received a bill this week for $4,550.00 A bit different from the $3800 he originally agreed plus an additional $300 for the closet. Leaving me with allot of work to finish. (I agree that I did ask him to find an electrical short that knocked my bedroom lights out - and I would pay him separately for that work. But not more than I would pay my electrician!) Needless to say I DO NOT RECOMMEND him my friends. I will have to deal with this myself - I will pay him less based upon our prior agreement which was in writing. It is unbelievable to me that persons can have a written agreement and the contractor believes he can change it all with no question. The best part is that he did not ask for any money up front as a deposit. And he actually acknowledged to me that he was getting more calls for work based upon my Angie's recommendation -- and he doesn't believe that I will also post what he has done wrong?
