Wonderful company!
There was a delay from Oct 29th to Nov 6th for the quote for the estimate on the project. After I reached back to Ryan a couple times he apologized for the delay and had explained he had a death in his family. On Nov 6th I was given a quote of $3735.18 for outlined work and we agreed to move forward as of that evening. I had expressed my concerns about the delay in starting the project due changes in weather going from late fall in to the early winter season. On Weds Nov 12th I had to reach back to Ryan to see when we were going to get things moving. That day he did buy the materials and pick up a check for the deposit (which was cashed on Thurs 11/13).
From there I text him on Fri Nov 14th to try to see when something would be scheduled. I was told that he would be out on Mon or Tues the following week-weather permitting. The forecast was calling for rain and sub 40 degree temperature days. I relayed this concern to him via text. The response from Ryan stated that he had 100 lawns left to cut on Fri 11/14 and 180 lawns to mow on Sat 11/15 so there was nothing that could be done. We followed this with a phone conversation detailing my concerns. During the conversation he explained to me that if I had this many concerns he could 'drop the materials off at my house and I could proceed without him. He could have a less experienced crew come out, but the results might not be as good since they are not experienced painters'. I expressed that was a lousy set of alternatives to have to choose from:
1) sit and wait despite the fact we were moving further into the winter season
2) have by the owners admission a lesser crew come out and deliver an inferior service
3) have all the materials I paid for in advanced dropped off at my house for me to proceed on my own
Ryan admitted that those weren't the terms of engagement that we agreed to and did come out on Sat 11/15 to start the sanding and preparation. On Mon 11/17 & Tues 11/18 it was cold and rainy so no work was performed. I had no update as to when he would be returning to complete the work. I reached out to him on the evening of Weds 11/19 to see if he had something scheduled for the completion of the refinishing of my deck. He let me know that he would be out Thurs 11/20 to finish the work. He and his crew completed all work on Fri 11/21.
The finished product looked appealing. In mid January as we had snow and cold weather all of the applicant started to recoil and peel up. The deck is now roughly 25-30% peeled and exposed. I tried to reach out to Ryan on Mon March 16th to go over this. I wanted to see if he would stand behind his work. He text me back that he would be back in his office and could meet with me on Weds 3/18. On the day of the 18th I still hadn't heard back from him about a time to meet that day. I text him at 11:38a and received no response. I text him a second time at 7:27p on 3/18 as well to again state there was a problem that needed attention. The final price came in slightly over budget at $3909.42.
He called me after standing me up and receiving the 2 texts. I stated what the problem was with the deck. He immediately pointed that if the product (Restore It! Deck - by Olympic) was faulty a rep from that company could try to issue a refund. He let me know that usually the homeowner would take on the responsibility to schedule to have a rep come out and explain the process his company implemented to see if Olympic would grant me the refund. Also, this process could take anywhere from 3 weeks to 3 months to see what would happen. He let me know that he was busy and might not be able to go to Lowe's in the next 2 days to see if he could reach out to Olympic, but if got the product info to him that he would try. I text to him 3 pictures of the deck, the product warranty, Olympic contact info and my contact info within 10 minutes of the conversation on the evening of Weds 3/18. He replied to let me know he received it. It is now Tues 3/24 at 2p and I haven't heard anything from him at all.
With his procedure of how I should try to fix his lackluster work, that would put me and my family in to possibly July without the use of our deck. We still then would need to take steps to have the deck renovated, as the money spent with Ryan Property Solutions did not result in the finished product the he promised to deliver. It was substandard work and service. I feel I have been very understanding through the process, but that kindness was been taken advantage of. I would like to be able to move forward from this experience and try to start the deck project over again (like we originally attempted to do in October 2014) so that my family can use it during the appropriate season.
I do not think that it would be fair that the burden be shifted to me the consumer if the contractor performed the work and also selected the product. Also, I do not think it is fair that I have to sit and unknowingly wait to try to rectify the shortcomings of his sub-standard service.
