We live in a town home community, and as such, are required to obtain permits from our Homeowner's Association anytime we are making repairs or changes to the exterior of our property. One morning, while working in my home office, I was startled to discover that men were on my roof, tearing it off. While we had informed Jeff that we wanted to hire him for this project, we also very clearly stated that work could not start until we had received our permit from the HOA. (We had submitted the paperwork to file for the permit; we just had not yet received it). Jeff ignored this information, and sent his crew of subcontractors to our home at the time that was convenient for him (Red Flag #2). I confronted him outside and explained that he needed to cease the job immediately, because I could be fined by the HOA for doing work of this nature without a permit. He assured me that "it would be fine," and insisted upon continuing. While I ultimately did not incur a fine, I found his complete disregard for the rules to which I am bound to be extremely unprofessional.
All of this took place in May 2010, and while we purchased roof shingles with a 25 year warranty, manufactured by a reputable, nationally-recognized manufacturer, we have just had our roof completely replaced, less than five years later (January 2015). The reason for the complete replacement--as determined jointly by our homeowner's insurance company and the third party damage and restoration company that they hired to inspect to our roof--was that the workmanship was so poor and careless that short of risking major damage to the foundation of our home, as well as all of its contents, there was no other option but to completely replace the roof. One example cited, among many from these inspections
, was that there almost no flashing used.
While we were very fortunate to never have suffered a leak to our roof (short of a minor leak in our skylights several years ago), we initially suspected that something could be wrong when we went into our attic to access some items in storage. An entire section of plywood--that should have been replaced by Jeff's crew with a particular type of fire-retardant plywood, per our town home regulations and fire code--was rotten and showed signs of mold. We naturally suspected that water had leaked into the plywood, causing this damage (Red Flag #3).
In addition to the rather unsettling condition of our roof, it should be noted that the quality of work on the "window box" was similarly poor. Within 18 months of the repair, the box seemed to return to its pre-repair state, characterized by warped, discolored wood that is not only unattractive in the front of our home, but also infringes upon the policies of our HOA. It was clear that the replacement wood was only standard plywood--it was not weather-resistant, and therefore, quickly became subject to environmental damage (extreme heat, humidity, rain, wind, and snow), ((Red Flag #4). We ended up having to completely rebuild the window box ourselves.
Window-box aside, when we phoned Jeff to discuss the matter, and respectfully asked for a partial refund to help defray the cost of a complete roof replacement, he assured us that he would speak with his insurance company and contact us promptly. Not surprisingly, we never heard from him.
For these reasons, I would advise strongly against hiring this contractor.

They did good work for us. I think his price is reasonable. He does good work, I’m happy with the quality. I don’t see any flaws. He’s a very friendly and nice guy. He seems to be honest with you and forthcoming. He doesn’t try to sell you services you don’t need. He’s very upfront about what you need and what you don’t need.

They renovated our restaurant in Center City. There are 2 men that partner together, Joe is very nice and wants you to be happy with his work. I think the main problem is the other partner Jeff, he is arrogant and rude. The shelves that he installed fell off the wall within days. We had to throw out the products that ended up on the floor which cost us money. He never came back to fix them but his partner Joe did and we have not had any problems with the shelves since. They hung a very heavy and large piece of artwork wrong. They insisted it was not a "square" piece and that it would always look crooked. We put a level on it and it was really off. They came back, Jeff had a real attitude and they attempted to straighten it. It still was off. Joe came back again and finally straightened it by himself and now it looks good. The bar ended up looking good but not without us watching Jeff do it and asking him to correct the problems we saw as he was building it. Details were neglected like correctly putting the holes where the shelving was going. They were crooked and in the wrong place so they had to redo it. They used a piece of trim that was the wrong color and they had to redo that also. They don't do well with the detail work, it was sloppy or not done well. I would recommend Joe, he did our flooring through another company and it turned out very well. Also the work he did seemed to be better quality than his partner. I gave 3 them 3 stars because Joe did a good job and was pleasant to work with.

I liked the finished product very much. It went like clockwork. His work is very precise and accurate. He does exactly what he says he going to do. He will advise against something that may not need to be done but will do it if you request. He basically won't do anything you don't need done. The other provider I had a quote from proposed $38,000.00, so Jeff's quote was very reasonable.
