We hired The Paint Co to paint a significant portion of the first and second floor interior of our home prior to putting it on the market. This included quite a bit of pre-prep and some fairly difficult patch-work. This contract job also included pressure washing the entire exterior of the house (siding) which only needed cleaning.
The quality of work was outstanding. The pre-prep, patch-work and painting were very well done, including any final touch-ups needed to make the job very professional!
The total cost for everything that was done was quite competitive, making this excellent value for the money we spent and the great quality of work that was provided.
My only concern would be the lack of adequate communication prior to and up to the day work began. I had to arrange my job commitments around the work schedule and this became something of a moving target all the way up to the arrival of the crew, a half-day late. This was a little inconvenient, but not a deal breaker.
I was pleased with the attitude of the entire crew. They were hard working and a pleasure to work with. Would definitely make them one of my first choices to call next time.

Response from The Paint Co
"It is unfortunate that the prior salesperson was unresponsive and insensitive to your needs and schedule. It looks as if this project was completed in 2006 under different ownership. My husband and I purchased the business The Paint Company in 2011 and have made significant changes to the business model and how we interact with our customers. Most of our current customers are those that have been referred by others and have many repeat customers. I hope you will consider giving us a try when your next project arises."

We believe that they have had a new owner take over since we used them. We hired them several times for exterior painting and recently we used them for interior painting. We were not pleased with their interior painting work, but we were  pleased with their exterior painting work. Their price was a little bit on the high side but we had used them before so we decided to use them again. When we paint again we will definitely use another company. We had to call them back several times to touch up. They removed some wallpaper from a bathroom and painted over it. The adhesive was coming through and the paint was chipping off the wall. The quality of work was not satisfactory.
Response from The Paint Co
"We are very disappointed to hear that you had a less than satisfactory experience with the prior owners/crews of The Paint Company. We purchased The Paint Company in June of 2011 and have revamped and improved the business model. It appears that your project was completed prior to this date. We will stand behind any work that was conducted under The Paint Company name and ask that you contact us at 919-847-6161 to set up an appointment for us to review your issues."

I interviewed 3 contractors and chose Don due to his ideas, history and gentlemanly manner.  To tell this story from start to finish
is extensive! This is long, but, if you want an expert, professional remodel, you should read it!  I am completely convinced I would not have the beautiful first floor I now have if I had not chosen Paint Co, and Don!

Appliances/Cabinets:
First,  I had to receive the 3 new stainless appliances before any work started. The microwave delivery was
delayed so the cabinets could be reconfigured.  Since my cabinets were the standard height above the counters,17-18" and the microwave over the stove was much lower,  I decided I would take advantage of the remodel and raise the microwave to the  verage height above the stove which would provide more cooking height and view of the stove top.  This meant Don had to figure
out how to reconfigure the cabinet above the microwave to match the current cabinet height AND configure and install the second row of cabinets.  One of Don's best characteristics is his never ending aim for perfecting the very best ideas in design.  He measured and re-measured and reconfigured until he was thoroughly convinced it was the best design. He built the newly configured cabinet above the stove and the microwave was installed - PERFECT!  It matched the height of the current cabinets and fit perfectly.  Don and Dorio built the second row of cabinets and installed them - they were perfect.  Crown molding, which was installed throughout the first floor was included over the new second row of cabinets and looks beautiful.  I chose handles for the cabinets and drawers and knobs for the new second row of cabinets.  I also chose glass window pane doors for the
second row cabinet above the microwave.  Don installed under cabinet lighting and lighting in the glass door cabinet.  He also added a row of shelves in the second row cabinets, provide me with voluminous extra storage space.  Don also replaced the doors/hardware in the bath.

Granit Counter Top
- when the granite counter tops in the kitchen and bath were delivered and installed, Don coordinated the  plumber to complete the 2 new sink installations as well as install a new commode. I never had to worry about a thing
Paint - Don and Dorio painted several trials as we were deciding on colors.  Don encouraged me to absolutely NOT settle and to wait until I saw "the" color for the kitchen, bath and living area.  This was unexpected and truly appreciated.   I KNOW I would not have had this experience with "any" contractor. I chose the colors that I now cherish and love.  Don's standard is to paint the primer AND 2 coats of paint.  He was the only contractor I interviewed that this was standard.  Between the newly painted walls, trim, including new crown molding throughout, windows/sills, and doors, my house looks outstanding, fresh and beautiful.
Lighting -  Don was very helpful and patient as I chose new light fixtures for over the kitchen sink, the kitchen ceiling light and the bathroom light and installed them all.  He and Dorio replaced every electric receptacle and cover throughout the first floor to  change from off white to white.  This also meant bringing the kitchen and bathroom up to code.  As I said , Don installed under counter lighting and lighting for the glass door cabinet.  He also installed dimmers for all!
Backsplash - Don is actually responsible for the idea and configuration of the kitchen backsplash. I did not know exactly what I wanted. I have an absolutely beautiful white subway tile backsplash with a most beautiful glass tile pattern perfectly configured into it and perfectly installed by Dorio.

They were very professional when they first came out and they used a good sub-contractor to do the painting but they didn?t do the follow up. The stuff they used was great. When they were done there were little things like a railing here or there that had wood that was replaced and the wood wasn?t sanded like how I would have done it. It was placed right but it wasn?t finished as perfectly as I would have done it myself. They were always on time and there never was an issue with when they would show up. They came out blazing saddles and did the work. The owner came out initially, went over the house, checked everything and saw the work that was needed to be done. I just thought in my mind that the person should have come out at the end of the whole thing and checked the work out. I was just surprised that they didn?t come out and do that. I would not use them again because the person who came out and did some interior work for us had some painters that were actually better, and I intend to use them in the future.

I had originally called for an estimate on the trim and mailbox post. I also wanted the mailbox post to be inspected for rot and repaired. They gave me an estimate for that paint work, but also included an estimate for painting the entire house. Given the age of the house and the condition of the paint, I agreed to get the entire house painted. I was told that their carpenter could let me know if an additional charge would be needed for the woodwork for the mailbox post. Prior to getting the work done, I had to contact the office three times to get a copy of their insurance information. After finally getting the insurance information, I mailed in a check for the 20% deposit on the work and requested to be notified when the work was scheduled. Before I was contacted, the company subcontracted to power wash the house contacted me on a Friday afternoon. They informed me that my house was to be painted on the following Monday, and that they needed to wash my house that very afternoon. I asked the power washing firm if they'd be providing their own water, given that Raleigh was in the middle of water restrictions. The company stated they would be using water from my home. The crew showed up on time Monday. When they were done that day, they left their trailer parked on the street in front of my house. No one told me they would do that. The next morning (Tuesday), I told the crew they needed to take the trailer with them at the end of the day. I told them that in the past, obstructions left on the street had caused both the mail carrier to not deliver our mail, and the garbage and recycling people to not collect. The crew indicated that they understood. When I got home at the end of the day, their trailer was still parked out on the street. I called all the numbers I had for the company, as well as left an email on their website. No one returned my messages or moved the trailer. The paint work itself looked pretty good. They matched colors to what had been on the house before. The doors and shutters looks nice. They did the work by hand - no sprayers or rollers. On the basis of the painting alone, they did a good job. A few things I noticed after the job was finished. 1. I never was contacted about carpentry work on the mailbox post. A quick inspection of the work reveals that they simply painted over the rot. 2. When I was mowing the grass that week, it looks like the crew decided to clean their paintbrushes in the middle of the yard - apparently by running hose water over them in the grass. 3. They left a Paint Company sign on my front lawn.

The whole job took just 3 days - I expected it to take at least a week because my house is really 3 stories tall and on a cliff. Very hard to paint.

They did a wonderful job on our home. They painted all the window trim and door frames by hand and did the entire house by hand which I liked the best. When they were done, they did a great job clean up. They were very professional.

They missed a few areas in which paint needed to be touched up. They were excellent at returning to complete the job correctly. Their estimate was the lowest price. They showed up in a timely manner and cleaned up after the project. They will paint interior and exterior.

THE WORK THAT THEY DID WAS VERY GOOD QUALITY. THEY GOT THE WORK DONE IN THE AGREED UPON TIME FRAME AND THEY HONORED THEIR ESTIMATED PRICE THAT THEY HAD PREVIOUSLY GIVEN TO US. THEY WERE ALWAYS PROMPT IN ARRIVING FOR THE JOB.
