Five Star Painting of Raleigh

This was a small job, but I have used Five Star for big jobs in the past and they have always done great work. They take time to be sure it’s done right and when they’re done they leave the place clean.

Five Star was able to get the job done within a week of giving me the best quote of 3 companies. With one of their larger crews, they got the job done on the last few nice days in November. One day was for power washing, and the next day for painting. I thought they really went above the norm to accommodate our schedule. There were a couple minor details that were lacking, but overall a very good job.

They did an excellent job, attention to detail, friendly hard-working crew. Upgraded paint to make it longer lasting and easier to clean. Trent McGuire (Sales Manager) was attentive and great to work with. Would hire them again.

Five Star did a great job for me. Trent was punctual, polite, and managed the process, as he promised he would. They painted my whole house interior. Crew was professional and efficient. Would use again and Susie in the Office was great.

Team was responsive, prompt and did a thorough job providing an estimate. We decided to go with another vendor because of a slightly lower price and a 5 year warrantee. These guys were great to work with and I felt they had a lot of integrity.

The exterior painting job was a disaster. They bumped up the cost just before the painting was to begun and forced me to pay the extra amount. In spite of that, the paint started peeling within 3 months. Even though the warranty was 2 years, they refused to accept the responsibility of the problem and refused to fix it. It has been very frustrating to work with them and the owner always plays the hardball and is stubborn. He just wants profits, blindly trusts his employees and doesn't care about the quality of the work. Stay Away at all cost.

Things didn't start out as well as I would have liked, and initially I was going to rate things a "C", but upgraded to a B overall. Price was great, but there were issues/questionable pieces at the start. For powerwashing they showed up without a hose. I can understand supplying water, that was listed on the contract, but supplying a hose was not. I am glad I had one! Then on the first day of painting I found gloppy dripping paint over the front door I had to paint out to them, but there was a trail left behind that had dried enough before I told them that it later had to be sanded down and touched up. There was also the matter of more expensive estimates being sent to me after I had signed and returned the original. The back door was painted, but then opened before it was fully dry at the bottom so I had to try to get what I could out of the carpet using goo-gone, and spots that were missed during initial painting. In fairness, we had the house painted the same color so the missed spots were not obvious unless you were looking at an angle, and the rest of the door was dry enough so there wasn't necessarily reason to suspect that the rug was going to get paint on it. The reason I pulled up to a B was they worked hard to touch up the spots that needed it, and were really responsive, at a good price.

’m very pleased with the exterior painting that Five Star Painting did for us. Bella, the crew forewoman, was great. They had previously done interior work for us. Would definitely go with them again.

They did an excellent job— all of the painted areas looked great, and they kept everything else clean. I particularly appreciated that Robin, the owner, told me about a new kind of paint that is specifically for the exterior of steel front doors that will dry faster and adhere better. I’d been concerned about how well the paint job on the front door would hold up, since the house faces south (into the sun), and there’s a glass storm door that keeps the temperature between it and the front door roasting hot during the day.

The painting crew did a very high quality work. They cleaned up the work site very well each day. We could not be more pleased with the results, particularly the front door. We felt the price was fair given the many projects that were part of this job. The only issue we had was communication during the work planning process relative to capturing the work tasks and materials for all of the details of this project. Robin Green resolved all of these early issues in a very professional manner.

5 Star was just that....5 star. We had almost the entire interior of our home painted. They were superb. Completed the job much quicker than I had anticipated, cleaned up behind themselves and did a great job with the colors(they actually helped pick out). I would use them again without hesitation.

I would highly suggest you do NOT hire Five Star Painting. They damaged our kitchen floors, and not minor scratches, huge grooves. They did this moving the refrigerator that we had put on heavy cardboard to avoid this from happening. They removed the cardboard and cut it, not sure exactly what they did to cause such damage, as we were not in the room. They NEVER showed us the damage, we found it after the full house painting was completed (kitchen was last room completed). If this is all that happened, we could say accidents happen; however, after the damage was done, Bruce tried to claim they did not do the damage, insinuating we did. The photos he provided as proof, actually proved they did the damage. We were continually harassed by Bruce throughout the entire time we were working to get our floors fixed (which took time), and have all the emails to prove it. We had left for a 3 1/2 week vacation after the floor was damaged and had told them this would cause a delay in getting the floors fixed. There were threats of lawyers, liens, etc. He insisted he hire the person, that we go through him and get his approval?! This continued until we started the floor repair process and told him we'd hire a lawyer if it continued. We're glad it's over and we paid them for the job minus the floor repair; however we would caution anyone thinking of using Five Star Painting. During this experience, we did a little digging as their reviews on Angie’s List and HomeAdvisor were 4.5 stars and we couldn’t understand how this could be the same company. We found out it is and it isn’t. When they received a lot of negative reviews on Yelp, they simply changed the company location so that it would show up as a new company. The bad reviews with experiences such as ours, all included the name of the co-owner, Bruce Jones, so were knew it was the same company. The deceit started long before we hired them. Price below is less the flooring repair which cost over $1,000.00. We waited to write the review until floors were repaired and then forgot to write it. Hopefully we help someone else from this horrible experience. Just look up Five Star Painting and Bruce Jones, you'll find more than one location when you Google this and you will see the previous bad experiences of other customers too. update This is in response to Bruce's response to my original review of 3/30/2018 which is full of lies. As Angie's List does not give the option for the customer to respond to the very untruthful response to my original review, I have to post another review to respond. This should be fixed so that customers can respond when a deceptive business responds with lies to your review. I just saw this response when looking for additional work to be done on my home, as Angie’s List did not notify us when Five Start responded (not sure they ever do). His response is FULL of LIES, that I will address one by one. Five Star did not admit they damaged the floors, they blamed us for it. They did not take any steps to remedy the situation, their workers attempted to hide the damage from us by covering it up with cardboard until they left. They did not send over anyone to our home to give us an estimate for the flooring. We did decline their help as they had already ruined the floor and we did not trust them to fix it and then perhaps make it worse. We left for a 3 week vacation right after this happened, which added to the delay. Bruce was aware of this. It did take us considerable time to find someone who was experienced in replacing the damaged floor, which were not small scratches as Bruce claims, but huge grooves, of which we have photo proof. It was not so small that no one would take on the job, as you can see by the price it cost to repair it in my original post (over $1,000). One part of the delay was finding the exact match to the floor that was damaged. This took considerable time, as our flooring is not what is being installed in new homes in the area right now. Bruce was not offering help; he was threatening us in phone calls and emails (which I still have). We did communicate and let him know where we were throughout the process; I also have those emails. The communication was limited because Bruce would respond with threats about suing us, placing a lien on our house, etc. We did not let him take care of the repair because of how dishonest he was from the beginning about the damaged floors; we did not trust him. This did not take 8 months, it took 4 months, I have the final check and email to prove it; another lie. They have a 4.5 star rating because they change the location of the business as the business name. We found this out AFTER our horrible experience. We couldn’t believe we were the only ones to have this horrible experience, a simple Google search proved we were not. They were not willing to do everything they could to remedy the situation, Bruce was too busy first denying they did the damage, then blaming us for the damage, then insisting he would provide the person to fix it, then threatening us, none of this was helpful. We did NOT get 4 estimates, I never told Bruce that and we never discussed the number of estimates we received. I awarded it to Five Star because I only saw the good reviews; it never dawned on us that a company would change their company name (by changing the location) to hide bad reviews. Yelp reviews are 2 stars, not 4.5. Four touch ups is a lie. I literally had painters tape all over my house marking all the touch ups they needed to do. There were way too many to count and they were in EVERY room. There were areas that were completely missed, and holes not patched. It took the full day to complete these "minor touchups". There was no last day walk through with Bruce or any company official, just two older painters, man and woman, who spoke very limited English, it was hard to communicate with them; but they clearly understood the painters tape marking the touch ups, most likely due to it being a common occurrence. Responsiveness was due to his office person, Susan, who was usually quick to respond and my main point of contact. Punctuality is a D because they arrived at different times every day, usually later than they said they would by at least an hour. One day it was over 2 hours and I called Susan who had to call them to find out where they were. They never once called us to say they were running late. Professionalism is an F because of Bruce’s behavior throughout the entire flooring issue. Not taking responsibility, never apologizing for the damage, blaming us, and threatening us are all unprofessional. His response to my original review is the FIRST and ONLY time Bruce has accepted responsibility and apologized about the damage to our floors. As I’ve said before, I have all the emails showing how this entire situation progressed and how long it took. What is disturbing is that Bruce continues to lie about the situation as evidenced in his response. I also posted a reply on Home Advisor to his untruthful response to my review there quite a while ago when I saw he responded and was not truthful. My recommendation is to steer clear of this company as long as Bruce is in charge as he is not an honest or professional businessman.

They did a fantastic job, best paint/caulking on crown molding I have ever seen. Both office manager/office contact very responsive. Painting crews were prompt, polite, professional and very neat. They worked quickly. Cleaned up work areas each day after work. I would definitely hire this company again.

Five Star Painting recently painted the ceilings in my home. After a lot of effort to do them myself I was not able to achieve a positive result. I received a reasonable quote from Five Star and they started the job within one week. Jose and Edgar, the painters, were phenomenal. They were very friendly and truly worked extremely hard. they finished the job earlier than estimated and I couldn't be happier. I would definitely recommend them for your next painting job.

Did what they were hired today. Painted interior and did a great job.

I would rate the work bad-unacceptable after two rounds of touch-ups. Spray steaks all over sides of house had to be redone, didn't patch a single hole, didn't paint large sections of front porch, didn't scrap peeling paint before painting over it, left around 20 screws and nails in my yard. Overall sloppy bad quality work. I would never recommend Five Star to anyone.

They were always punctual from the first meeting and with the painters. They were quick to respond, even when we had questions in the beginning on the weekend. They covered everything and did not track paint everywhere or have splatter spots. We were more than pleased with the final product and would highly recommend them.

They guys showed up on time every day and worked until 5 pm. I was very impressed with their dedication to doing great work while in my home.
