They did an unprofessional, substandard, inferior quality job. Rather than taking the time to do the job correctly, they cut corners which resulted in my floor being raised unacceptably high. See my description of services performed above.
Description of Work: We had our upstairs hall bath remodeled. Quality Tile & Marble installed a mud base over the wooden subfloor and they installed tile on the floor and tub. The tile unfortunately turned out to be defective. Quality Tile came back out and removed the defective tile. As a result of the tile removal, their mud base on the floor was damaged and very uneven. Rather than correct it properly by grinding it down smooth, they cut corners by floating it out with an extremely thick coating of thinset to cover the mess up which resulted in an abnormal, excessive floor height. They then installed a replacement floor tile on top of that. We kept asking them why the floor was so high and no one would give us a straight answer. They said the floor was level. We contracted for a standard height floor with a standard threshold; however, because of the excessive floor height, they then installed a HANDICAP RAMP to connect the carpeted hall floor to the new bathroom floor. We complained repeatedly and told Quality Tile that the floor height was unacceptable. At one point, their tile man stopped by to remove a stain on the tile that they had caused and I asked him about the floor height. He had no explanation to offer. Then, he pulled out a sheet of paper on which was a handwritten note written by Pat of Quality Tile stating to the effect that they have completed the job to the satisfaction of homeowner. I balked at signing such a statement and I told their man there was no way I would sign it because they installed the floor too high and I pointed at the handicap ramp, and furthermore I told him I believed it was highly unusual for a subcontractor to be trying to extract a waiver from a homeowner and that really raised a red flag and pointed to the fact they KNEW their workmanship was incorrect and they were trying to ensure they would not have to take responsibility. I have complained to them on numerous occasions and both are trying to wriggle out of their part of this improper, inferior, substandard installation by merely stating that our floor is "level." I have consulted with licensed general contractors regarding this floor and they concur the job was done improperly and it has to be redone at great expense because the floor affects everything else. I have gotten written estimates for same.
