It was an extremely easy and professional experience. I would recommend Don without reservation for any TV repairs. He explained all the options to me and I made my decision. When my panel was determined to be of no further use he credited the cost on a TV that he had in his shop. He offered me several choices and I made my choice of TV and it was a good choice and I am very happy with the TV.

Mr. McGehee is a very professional gentlemen. He explained what the issue could be and how minor to how extensive it could end up being. I decided to go ahead and have the diagnostic done. Unfortunately the issues were on the more extensive end and I did not have the repairs completed. I felt comfortable dealing with him, and wish that the cost and amount of parts needed were not as high as they were, but oh well.
I would recommend him to a friend.

Response from DON MCGEHEE ELECTRONICS
"The price Mr [Member's name removed] was charged was for the service trip, pick up of his tv and labor in shop for further diagnostics. His set was abnormally difficult to diagnose considering he had several defects, He was informed at time of pickup that we knew that his sets T-con board was defective but his LCD display was possibly defective also. The only way to confirm if the LCD display is working properly or not was to order a replacement part and Mr. [Member's name removed] gave approval to do so. We installed ordered part in tv and determined display was defective .We returned part to supplier which charges us a restocking fee of which customer was informed of before ordering. We installed part in tv at no additional labor cost to customer, to which was our agreement with customer. We Never charge customer for labor to install parts if not resulting in a repaired set. Mr. [Member's name removed] Received several hours of labor not billed to him. We are always up front on all costs and fees. We strive to make everyone happy however when you tell a man his $1800 tv is toast he is never happy."

They were polite but the cost of the repair was much too high.

We are new to the Triad area and rely on Angie’s List more than one might expect. Our 10 year-old projection TV, which we bought used with the house, quit working.
We found Don on Angie’s List and phoned him. Don responded promptly, took the lead in helping us to identify decision factors on whether to repair or replace, including the all-important cost of repair. We decided to have Don try to repair, which he agreed to do. A few days later after repair parts arrived, he phoned with the good news that the repair was successful. We are extremely pleased with how pleasant this experience was - starting from Don's willingness to discuss up-front the risks of repairing an “old” TV, the probable high cost of projection TV repair vs the advantages of a similar size new TV with simpler LED technology, the probable time delays due to waiting on parts and more. Don did an amazing job on the repair. The TV
actually has a better picture now than before it quit working.
When Don returned the first TV we asked him to look at a second TV we had that still worked but appeared to be in early stages of failure, having developed multiple horizontal lines at the top of the picture. He promptly repaired the second TV which, like the first repair, is working well.
The overall cost to us to have Don repair both TVs was less than the replacement cost for both. The replacement warranty on a new TV is so short, with so many “conditions”, we felt certain we made the right choice. Plus, we like having a new friend who happens to repair TVs!! Having a TV fail is never pleasant or convenient, but Don made this event a “non-event”.

We found Don on Angies List and called him. They called right back and provided us two options for service. We could either bring the TV to them or they could come to us for a trip fee (it was in the $60-80 range, in the ballpark for a standard trip fee). I liked that they provided both options. He did indicate based on the nature of the problem, they still might have to take the TV back to the office for more in depth diagnostics, which was fine (you can only bring so much equipment to the house).
He arrived on time, pulled the back off the TV and performed some diagnostics and ultimately decided he needed to take it back to the shop.
He called the next afternoon with details on a component board they isolated the problem to, and what the repair cost would be, somewhere in the $300-400 price range. I'm in the electronics/technology industry, the price was fair based on the nature of the component needing to be replaced. Based on the trip charge and diagnostics up til that point, plus the repair, we would have been coming in around $500. We decided to not have them do the repair because it was a secondary TV for us, we hadn't paid a lot for it, and we could replace it with another similar unit we found at Costco for around $450, and that would result in us having an entirely new TV that was still under warranty... as opposed to an older one, out of warranty (except for the part replaced by Don which they would have offered some warranty on).
Unfortunately, based on how the manufacturers are approaching TVs and the cost of repair components, I think this is the way the industry is going. TV manufacturers don't want you to repair, they want you to think of them as disposable. So... finding a solid TV repairman like Don will become harder and harder.
If it had been our $3000 main TV in the living room, we'd have totally had him do the repair. This was our secondary, inexpensive one in the master bdrm.. so the cheap replacement was the way to go this time.
Don was very pleasant, polite and professional, and we will definitely call him again in the future for any TV repair needs.

Don was very professional and courteous. Called him about lighting running in on my tv, he advised there was a $65 service charge for taking a look at the issue of the tv but that if there were any repairs that were needed to be performed that the $65 charge would go toward the cost of labor for fixing it. After dropping off my tv off on a Fri afternoon, he called me 2 days later on Mon morning and explained the problem. I decided to go ahead and get my tv repaired, so he had to order a part. He called me back within a day after ording the part to let me know the company had contacted him about the part being on short back-order. After about a week, the part came in and he called to let me know and that he would have the work done the following day. The next afternoon, he called me back to let me know all was good and the tv was ready to be picked up. Don was very good with communication and his work was right on. Tv works great. I would HIGHLY recomend Don McGehee Electronics!!!

Don was very professional and very prompt. He said it would take a few days to get to the tv, but he called the very next day with the diagnosis. I would definitely recommend him to anyone needing an electronics repair. Great guy!

On Labor Day, lightning ran in on our 32" Toshiba flat screen TV. We called Mr. McGehee and he told us to bring it over on Saturday (another huge plus). There was a small fee ($65) to check it over to see what the problem was and that fee would go towards the service price if we chose to have it repaired. He called my husband with the problem and was told to go ahead and repair it. I went over Wednesday after work, he turned it on and showed me the repair, I paid the balance and he was even nice enough to carry it to my car for me. It works like brand new. We now have a surge protector so we don't have to go through this again. He was wonderful, very professional, personable and I would definitely recommend him to anyone for their TV repairs. Hopefully we won't need him again but if so we will not hesitate to call him right away.
