Very prompt service. Fee would have gone towards repair, but parts woud have cost as much a new TV.

The unit (CD player) was submitted for repair on April 23 after the payment of $40.00 that we were told would be credited to the final cost of the repairs. On April 29 the owner-technician informed us it would cost $480.00 to repair the unit and he was only waiting for some parts to be delivered that were needed to complete the work. His terms were accepted. A few days later we were informed the needed parts had been received and the repairs would be completed and quot;in a few days.and quot; My husband personally checked with the owner one week after the promised delivery date and he noticed the player was still sitting on a shelf and no work had been performed. On May 14 my husband dropped by the repair shop and inquired as to what progress had been made. The unit still sat on the shelf and no repair had been performed. When the owner-technician was questioned as to why no work had been done in spite of repeated promises that it was and quot;next on the repair schedule, and quot; the owner became irate in an unprofessional manner and told my husband he could take the CD player and take it elsewhere. To his credit, the owner (Valentino) reimbursed the $40 fee in cash. Still we feel we were given the runaround and false promises that the unit would be promptly fixed. This repair shop is a one man operation and we got the impression Valentino is unable to cope with all the work he receives. I would strongly caution other customers to check elsewhere if they need repairs. We give this store an F grade. It gives lousy service.
Description of Work: The shop failed to performed the service on a CD player in a timely manner (3 weeks) after repeated promises the unit would be repaired "within a few days time." The unit sat on the shop shelf and nothing was ever done to it.

Started seeing white pixels in my Mitsubishi DLP widescreen TV. Called the vendor and they offered to replace the DLP chip, but I had to pay for a professional, certified installer... and found Audio Video Doctor. The owner (Valentino) called me to let me know that the part usually took a few days to get in, and would call me and schedule a time as soon as he had the part. The day he got the part, he called and scheduled an appointment... he was RIGHT ON TIME. Very courteous and professional, brought all of the tools he needed, including flashlights, electronics vacuums, etc - was careful to remove his shoes before getting onto the carpet, thoroughly explained everything he was doing, showed me everything, gave me further advice on the care of my TV, cleaned inside it, replaced the part - and together, we tested everything out. He was quick, efficient, thorough, and friendly. Two weeks after, we noticed a 'smudge' on the inside of the screen, I called him, he came out that night (RIGHT ON TIME) and cleaned the dust/smudge - no charge. I would use him again in an instant - I would recommend him to friends and family.
Description of Work: Replaced a faulty DLP chip in my widescreen TV. Pixels on the display starting going white... and sticking like that - first a few, then gradually more. Two weeks after replacing the chip, he returned to clean a 'smudge' (dust) inside the optics of the TV.

Amplifier problem was identified, repaired and returned with one week of delivery to shop. Since the repair the unit continues to operate faultlessly. Audio Video Doctor is an owner operated company. The owner actually does the repairs! Turns out that I could have purchased a new replacement unit for about twice the amout of the repair, however, I know that the proprietor examined the entire unit for other potential problems.
Description of Work: Crate professional amplifier had loud hum when guitar cord jack was plugged into socket. Dropped unit at Audio-Video Doctor for analysis and received response in 2 days. It required a circuit board replacement. Work was aurhorized and completed within one week. Amplifer has been in service since October, 2011 and does not exhibit previous problem, to date.

Our overall experience was positive. Vasile is definitely an odd character, and if it was not for Angie's List, I would have had reservations of going to him. But I'm glad I did. I found that he does know his stuff. He's all about his work and definitely gets absorbed in the operations, so much so that he can come across as a little brusque (unintentionally). He's former military, which no doubt explains the source of his electronics knowledge and expertise. In the end, your TV gets fixed, the work is quality, and the business is fair and honest. I feel confident his repairs will keep our TV operative for a few more years, delaying the expense of a new one. Note: His work does come with a warranty. After bringing the TV back home, the same problems began to occur once again. We returned the TV to the Audio-Video Doctor to take advantage of the 90-day guarantee. He seemed a bit bothered that it still wasn't working and wanted to inspect. So, we left it with him, and after 2 weeks of no response, I called him for an update. He told me that the problem was related to a new issue that would cost $300.00 to fix. We told him that the repair was unnecessary, and that we would like to take advantage of the warranty. He said this would not be possible as he already installed parts that could not be returned. I told him that this was not my problem and that he was contractually obligated to honor the warranty. In the end, he still refused to honor the contract and service agreement, but offered a refund of $50.00 which I accepted. He seems to have knowledge about his craft, however he falls short with his customer service and his own contractual standards.
Description of Work: We have a 50 inch plasma TV (Pioneer) that started having issues. At first, it would shut off in the middle of a program. Eventually, it shut off permanently. We took TV to the Audio Video Doctor. Vasile, the owner and service tech, correctly diagnosed the issue as a bad power supply. Moreover, he spotted a few other potential risks with the TV, namely that it did not have adequate cooling (a common problem, we learned, with our model of Pioneer). Vasile replaced the power supply and added a new/extra fan to the unit for $500 (parts and labor). We had the TV back in a week and were back up and running in time for football.

I called Valy and thought my lamp was dying, but when i explained the 'symptoms" he said it was my color wheel. I was not able to bring my TV to his shop, as it is too big. So he asked when I was available, and we made an appointment for the next day. He came on time, took him about 30 minutes.
Description of Work: I needed a new color wheel for my TV. Valy visited the house to replace it.

When I got the unit home it had intermittent drop-outs, which was the original issue to be fixed. When I brought it back, Vasile was open to retesting but was insistent there was no problem. When I returned to pick the unit up, he indicated that the amp was "fixed", yet would not tell me what else was done to remedy it (which was nothing, since he could not duplicate the error in a short amount of time he allocated). The short version of my saga is that I made repeated trips and ultimately brought in a second identical amp with the same symptoms to get a single working unit of the two. Both amps were dubbed "fixed", but in the end still exhibit the same issues. There was some time between my trips and Vasile incurred cost for the parts, but despite a stated warranty, A-V Doctor would NOT stand good on a remedy. I paid him $225 and ended up with two amps that are not usable. The worst part about my incident is that during my last effort to remedy the situation I stopped in to ask for a partial refund. I was polite with this request (in the presence of my two year old). I WAS TOLD FLAT OUT THAT I WAS NO LONGER ALLOWED TO ENTER VASILE'S STORE AND THAT THE $225 WAS MY LOSS. If you have high-end gear, I would look for a more qualified and ethical repair shop.

We were very pleased with his work.
Description of Work: Owner of Co. made a house call to repair a 27" Sony TV. He was prompt and efficient in diagnosing the problem...took part out of TV and took it to his shop and returned the next morning to finish the job and TV works fine. He seems very knowledgeable about these types of TV's It was a pleasure doing business with him...I would recommend him for repairs. Sure beats taking TV to his shop...his charge for the house call was $100.00...well worth it.

The owner of Audio-Video Doctor did not perform services, but his response was unprofessional even to the point of rudeness. In my initial call, the owner began to take my information, but asked me to call him back in 10 min. When I did, despite thinking that the request was odd, he told me that he could come the following day after he closed, which would be about 6:30. The next day I received a phone call around 4:00 asking if he could come at 4:30. I told him that it would be fine. Around 4:30, while speaking on the phone, I had an incoming call which I did not recognize. Approximately 1 minute later I retrieved the message and it was the owner of Audio-Video Doctor. He said that he was in a hurry and couldn't wait, and wouldn't do my repair. I have not heard back from him with an apology, explanation, or to reschedule. He may know how to repair TV's, but is certainly lacking in reliability and dependability.
Description of Work: The work was not performed because the vendor did not show up.

My large 32" Sony television stopped working one day. I called a few companies from Angie's list who estimated a 2 week wait to even pick up the TV. Valentino, the owner of audio-video doctor said he could come by that evening after the store closed. What a blessing considering I work full time and the TV is way to big to move. He came, checked out the TV and gave me a quick assessment. He clearly is VERY knowledgeable about TVs, it took him no time to know what was wrong. He then gave me a very detailed description of what was going on and what my options were. He didn't pressure me into repairing the TV versus me replacing it. He not only repairs TVs in his shop, but does warranty repair work for best buy and was able to tell me so much about which TVs are more reliable, etc. I chose to have him repair the TV. He took the inner workings as it were out and brought them to the store. 3 days later it was ready, he came by after work again and fixed the TV quickly. It's perfect and I'm so glad I chose to repair it. He added a fan inside which will help the overheating which apparently caused the problem to begin with. He said it would by me about 4 more years. I will definitely use his again in the future if needed. He is professional, hard working and knowledgeable. I recommend audio-video doctor with no reservations.

Great! He was very respectful of our home. I will definitely use him again in the future.
Description of Work: We have a flat screen tube TV that suddenly stopped working. The owner took time from his family on a Saturday afternoon to come fix it in our home. The cost would have been $100 less if I could have taken it into the shop, but it was way too heavy for me. He was able to replace 1 part and helped connect the TV back up to the receiver.

When I first took my camcorder to be repaired, I got to the location and no one was there even though it was during operating hours (I guess they were out to lunch). This was frustrating because I had driven from Huntersville all the way down to their location. Anyway, I came back another day and told him that I would like to have the camcorder back by New Year's Eve - a week later. Needless to say I did not get it back by then. After New Year's, I called and he explained that it would cost $250 to get it repaired. I asked him did he think it was worth it and he said yes. We told him to go ahead and repair it. However, when I called back about a month later, he had not repaired it and wanted to know if I really wanted it repaired because it would be a lot of work. I told him never mind and I would pick it up. When I came to pick it up, he offered me $40 to buy the camcorder for parts. I can buy a new camcorder at Sam's Club for $250.

I brought the receiver to the store on a Saturday, and Vasile said he would take a look at it on Monday or Tuesday to give an estimate. I called Vasile on Tuesday afternoon, and he said he would get to it that afternoon. He called back after a couple of hours and gave me an estimate for the repair and said he would have it done that same day. I picked the receiver up the following Saturday. The problem was fixed and everything seems to be working well. Vasile was very helpful and accommodating -- he even assisted in taking the receiver out to my car. He required a $35 payment up-front, which was then applied to the cost of the repair. Overall, I'm very satisfied with my experience with Vasile.
Description of Work: My Denon A/V receiver was not providing any output to the sub woofer pre-out connection. Vasile fixed the problem by repairing the digital board.

The video doctor was on time and very polite. The repair costs of($160.00) was reasonably priced. However, the service call to evaluate and pickup the TV I thought was a little steep ($100.00).
Description of Work: When TV was first turned on the picture screen would flutter and roll. This would last until it warmed up (approximately 15 to 20 minutes. The audio-video doctor repaired this problem. Because of the size of the TV (32" picture tube) the TV had to be picked up at my home. It took approximately one week to repair and return the TV.
