We’ve had two big water damage events in our house in the past 12 months. It’s an unfortunate thing to happen, but Puroclean really did an amazing job for us both times! They arrived quickly on the scene, were extremely professional, & did everything quickly & efficiently to mitigate the damage. They explained the plan to us clearly & followed through with everything in a very timely manner. They were very neat with the work they did & kept us informed on the progress. I can’t say enough good things about the excellent service we got in such a stressful time in our house.

From the moment Glenn and his team arrived at our home, we knew we were in good hands. Glenn was calm, comforting and communicative with us throughout the process of cleanup and repairing significant water damage in all 3 floors of our home. He even helped us navigate claims issues with our insurance company so our lost and damaged items could be repaired/replaced timely. And his team did everything possible to ensure our project finished both early and under budget.

John called me immediately and was able to schedule a visit by a technician in a timely fashion. The technician, Jay, was excellent. She called me when she was on her way, and was on time. She did an extremely thorough survey of my house, and spent about an hour doing so. She checked for high humidity/mold all over my house. She was unable to find any leaks/mold, which was reassuring. I was still concerned about the odor, and she attempted to troubleshoot the problem with me. The following day, John called me and gave me the contact number for a company that deals with odor control. He said to tell them he referred me, so that they would help, and he emailed me the information. I really appreciated the extra help. Also, despite surveying my home for over an hour, there was no charge for the visit. Amazing! Just an FYI: About 10 years ago, I had a leak in a pipe, resulting in a flood in my house. John’s company was recommended by my insurance agent. He came out and did the necessary work, which was excellent. He identified the source quickly, and fixed the problem in a timely fashion. I would highly recommend this company for any work you need done.

John Sheffield is the owner of a franchise of PuroClean covering the Cary/Apex area. I first met John after a Thanksgiving evening when all my family was together to celebrate. We had a terrible rainstorm that night and early in the evening, water starting pouring into the living room through my baseboards. As it turned out, I had a leak in my roof. I called my insurance company the next day and they sent PuroClean to take care of the “disaster” relief I needed. Apparently PuroClean was their “go to” company for repairs. I had carpet in the living room but decided to change to laminate flooring. John and his team took care of drying the flooring and walls, replacing the carpet with laminate, and painting the wall in the living room. He had done such a wonderful job that, while he was there, I asked him to paint three other accent walls in my house. When the work was done, everything looked beautiful. Since that time, I have had at least three other times when major repairs needed taken care of and, of course, I called PuroClean immediately. Most recently (this month) I had a major leak under my house which caused water damage. John came out and immediately identified the problem and he and his team went to work on it right away. Everything is now in perfect order. There aren’t enough nice things I can say about John Sheffield. He knows exactly how to work with insurance companies and can and will take a lot of that burden off the customer. Basically, he can walk you through the process. He always answers your call no matter what day of the week. He is always on time and tells you what he is going to do and why. And then he and his team do exactly what they say so there are no surprises. On a personal note, John is extremely friendly, honest, fair and anxious to provide the best service (perfectionism is his motto) to his client. He has a great, dedicated team working for him. I don’t know of anything he and his team can’t do. I can’t say enough positive about PuroClean. You owe it to yourself to call them (919-481-4600). They are the true “Paramedics of Property Damage”.

After a deep freeze that precipitated the flooding (and lots of broken pipes in the area), it was nearly impossible to find a restoration company that could come and give an estimate in less than a week. John Sheffield was able to come the next day and set up the fans and humidifiers a couple of days after that (we had to clear out our master bedroom first). He and his associate were careful with our carpet so it could be stretched and re-affixed to the floor. He checked on how things were going and the floor area between the floor and ceiling were dry when anticipated ( 4 days total) and the price fell within the estimate. John was a little later than scheduled a couple of times, but he sent a text before that time and informed me about what the new time would be. Never more than an hour out.

John and team were prompt, professional, and courteous. They helped us to get our kitchen dried out and taken care of very quickly. They did an excellent job. I was already a repeat customer as I unfortunately had a pipe burst during the coldest weather in January 2018. They had the resources to get out and help take care of it in extremely short order, despite many other homes also having broken water pipes during that week.

John called me the next day to setup a time but I could not be there when they could so he rescheduled it for a later time to accommodate my schedule. The employee who came out did a thorough investigation to the cause of the problem. He identified there was an odor and then began to talk about the possibilities. He felt pretty confident there was no mold issue going on based on visual inspection, but even with that thought, he continued by looking at the hardwood floor installation. He then went into the crawl space to investigate there. He found one problem in need of repair (a plumber's job) and advised that we get it fixed and then monitor the situation for about two weeks to see if the odor goes away. The employee was very knowledgeable, patient, and helpful in answering all my questions. He did not rush. He said if the odor did not go away, they could come out and do some moisture testing as a next step. He was, however, pretty certain we didn't have moisture problems at all as he also inspected all plywood underneath the house and found no evidence of it. I later received a followup call from the owner John who was checking to see how it went. I will definitely be calling Puroclean back to do more testing if needed and I would highly recommend their services. They are customer focused and their expertise is top notch. Thanks Puroclean!
Description of Work: I called Puroclean to inquire about getting some help to find out the cause of an odor throughout the first floor of our home. John asked me a few questions and also gave me some information based on what I told him. He was very professional and said he'd be happy to send someone out to investigate the following day. I asked how much to visit and he said "no charge".

This project began approximately 6 months ago. The project was completed in 4 phases. Phase 1 was to dry the sub-flooring and replace the flooring in the laundry room. Phase 2 consisted of furniture removal and preparation for sanding. Phase 3 was hardwood sanding refinishing. The final phase was to clean and return furniture to residence. Puroclean used various sub-contractors to complete the project. The first sub used to complete the sanding and refinishing phase was totally unsatisfactory. After sometime, the owners of Puroclean agreed that Phase 3 was unsatisfactory. The home owner was allowed to interview and contract an new sub-contractor to refinish the floors a second time, which required a repeat of Phase 2 by Puroclean. Fisher Flooring of Wake Forest, NC was contacted and did an outstanding refinishing job. Puroclean then return, clean the home, repaint the floor molding and reset the furniture. In conclusion, the home owner was very satisfied with the final outcome. Because of the cooperation between the home owner and Puroclean, I would rate the services provided by Puroclean as oustanding. It is obvious that the owners of Puroclean strive to please the homeowner and are concerned about maintaining a good business reputation. I would recommend Puroclean. (Note: Puroclean no longer uses the the first sub-contractor to refinish their projects.)

Description of Work: We were in the market to buy a home. Puroclean came onsite and performed a free inspection of the home due to a smell that concerned us. The representative was professional, courteous, knowledgable and experienced. He was able to determine the smell during his inspection as well as uncovered other items of interest. We did not purchase the home, so we did not use their services outside of this inspection. Their cost was on par of other competing companies. No complaints.

I have a very positive review of them. I had a good experience. It was free and I was in a process of purchasing a home and we weren’t sure of purchasing that home because we detected an odor we thought was cigarette smoke. I called them up and they came out and did a free estimate and determined what the odor was. He was thorough, helpful, professional, polite and wasn’t arrogant. I couldn’t have been happier with the service he provided. I think the fact that he was willing to come from out of town really stood out about him, secondly he was 15 miles away and that is not too bad of a drive. I think overall promptness is what I like as he returned phone calls and emails. He didn’t pressure us into the services and took his time with us answering our questions. His estimate was very thorough, detailed and very easy for us to understand. They provide phenomenal customer service. They are into home restoration business so if customers are looking for it in our area they should look him up. This company should definitely have a star above their name based on my experience. The price was on par so I am assuming the price was fair. There are some things that he missed.

I was dissatisfied with their approach to the service. Their attitude was poor. I did not trust this company to handle my belongings. I was totally put off my their proposal of remediation. They had a complete inconvenient and incomplete approach to the service and I chose not to use their services. Cost wise they were equally or more expensive than other companies and were going to provide less service. I would not recommend this company to others.

We had a water leak in our upstairs master bathroom from the commode. The leak affected the bathroom, the master closet, the upstairs hallway and the down stairs dining room ceiling. Since the water leak was category 3 (water from commode), Puroclean had to use extra precaution to clean and sanitize the areas before any repairs could be done. John Sheffield (owner of Puroclean) is absolutely wonderful. He was so kind and helpful throughout this entire process. This is actually my second time to use this company. The first time was in 2008 (before I even knew about Angies List) due to a water leak downstairs from the builder hammering a nail into a water pipe. John was wonderful and so incredibly helpful then as well, which is why I did not hesitate to call Puroclean the minute I found the water leak upstairs. John's team was great. They were always on time, professional, compassionate and courteous. A water leak in your home is always an inconvenience. Trust me when I tell you that you are in good hands with this company. They will do WHATEVER it takes to help you. Stacy S. - - State Farm policy holder
Description of Work: Puroclean carefully cleaned damaged areas, set up special tents with dryers and air scrubbers for drying out the floors, walls and ceiling. I had to file this under my home owners insurance through State Farm. I am not certain on the cost of the services performed but, I will tell you that the owner of Puroclean (John Sheffield) walked me through the process of filing the claim (in great detail) and really helped ease my mind.

OK. They did the job. Concerned that they did work so fast for what I considered a big job.
Description of Work: I needed my huge brick fireplace cleaned. I mean every brick. I did not have water or smoke damage so I had to pay for this myself. Dust and dirt caused by inconsiderate and indifferent renovation people. Puroclean people worked so fast I can only hope they cleaned all the bricks. My fireplace bricks reached all the way to second floor. Proclean people were very nice. Their price very high but I had no choice. They are probably no better or worse than anybody else in their field. I have asthma and badly needed the cleaning job. Puroclean recommended by Angie's List.

Response from Puroclean Disaster Response Services
This customer was concerned with how long the job would take to complete. In an effort to satisfy her needs we had 2 teams of people there to complete the job quickly and efficiently. In her customer satisfaction response she said we were professional, met her expectations were helpful, experienced, reliable, organized and knowledgeable. I am very surprised and disappointed that 4 months later she didn’t remember these comments, and posts a report like this. I guess we were to efficient for her. She gave us a “D” in price. She chose us when she could find no one else to help her in over a month after receiving our estimate. Our service was completed in May of 2012, so I am not even sure she is referencing us for work she said happened the end of September 2012 (4 months later)? I believe this report should be pulled, as it is neither accurate, nor reflective of how she felt at the time of service.

I unexpectedly discovered I had a broken sewage pipe under my house when I had an exterminator out for separate issue. Because of the extent of the raw sewage involved, as well as for his health and safety, my plumber would not do anything until I had the area cleaned up. John responded to my phone call within minutes, then visited my home for an assessment in less than an hour, and had his "Haz-Mat" team at my house to begin the clean-up and decontamination in less than 2 hours! Every person was courteous and respectfully answered my numerous questions and concerns. They hand trucked materials in and out so as not to tear up the lawn. I was impressed with the compassion, respect, and expertise of everyone, and would contact John and his team for any future needs I might encounter. I might add that in my state of shock and panic after the plumber couldn't help, I called my Insurance Agent who actually recommended PuroClean to me. Since I felt powerless, and unknowledgable, I was reassured to be able to review Puroclean on Angie's List and make a rapid decision to restore function and safety to my home.

John was very knowledgeable and helpful in providing advice on how to solve this problem. He took the time to make detailed recommendations on how to handle it ourselves, and how he could be of service if the problem was more serious than anticipated. It was very refreshing to have someone who gave good solid advice instead of just selling us a service we may not need. I would highly recommend you call John first if you are having moisture and mold problems in the house, basement or garage.

I came home after 8 hours at work, to find my water pipes from the upstairs shower had been leaking all day through the ceiling onto the rug in the living room! After getting a partial repair to stop the leaks, I contacted my Insurance Company who recommended PuroClean. I made contact with the manager, John. John was very encouraging over the phone and reassured me that his team would be able to handle my water damage needs. He was absolutely right. The very next day, Brian Williams and Steve Adams were here and ready to get started. Brian explained everything in detail, the step by step procedures, before everything was set up for drying. Of course, carpet was damaged, flooring was still wet all the way through and under the house. The ceiling above had been torn out earlier by my plumber, in order to repair the leaking polybutylene pipe. The large area in the ceiling including the upstairs flooring was still wet also, in a large area where damage from the burst pipes had occurred. John and Steve spent several hours enclosing that whole area in the living room from floor to ceiling. They set up several industrial fans and a large dehumidifyer on for drying purposes. A fan was also set under the house in the crawlspace to help with drying out the flooring from the water damage. The whole procedure began on a Monday and was finished up on a Saturday morning. Every morning, Brian, would call early and then come by each afternoon to check on how the job was going. All areas were checked by him and a partner, thoroughly. On the last day, Brian came back alone and removed all the drying equipment, plastic sheeting, inspected all areas closely to make sure the job was complete. He cleaned up the work area also. Brian did an outstanding job and was professional at all times. It was a miserable week for me to have industrial fans blowing at high speed and the dehumidifier going all for 24 hours a day, for 5 days, but it had to be done. Puroclean helped me during a trying time, but I was very happy with the completed job and totally understood that the time was needed to do it right. I am a very satisfied customer!

We returned from vacation to find that a polybutylene pipe on the inlet to our HWH had burst. The HWH is on the second floor so the water had run down thru the floor and into the ceiling and two walls of the living room and into the ceiling of the garage. Fortunately we had turned the water main off before we left so there had not been water running the entire time we were gone and there was no major structural damage. Peter Rehder and his team came in and removed all the damaged drywall and insulation and setup their huge industrial dehumidifiers and blowers which ran for five days until the exposed wood tested as dry. I was very impressed with the knowledge and professionalism of the team. It was a real relief to me to have such obviously competent people working on the remediation. Additionally, they coordinated their activity seamlessly with the plumber I had brought in to replace the pipes and HWH. Everyone was cheerful and courteous. Peter went out of his way to keep us informed of what they were doing and how the work was progressing. They provided a wonderful service in a time of real stress.

I recently bought my first home. 1 week and 1 day after signing the papers, we had an accident with the washing machine. The clamp holding the drainage hose failed, but the majority of the water poured down the secondary drainage pipe onto the patio. The problem was that not all of the water was caught and some water squeezed its way through the subflooring (washer is on the 2nd floor) onto the drywall seams or tape. Then, some water began dripping in the downstairs living room. I called Puroclean to see if they could come and take a look and give me an idea as to what kind of problem I had on my hands. They agreed to come and give an estimate which they normally do for free (for Angie's Listers), but they charged me $98 since it was a Saturday. The first thing I remember about John is when he walked inside he said, "Oh, no carpet damage". He seemed disappointed. Apparently, my panicked tone on the phone gave the impression that the problem was more serious. John seemed nice but was very obviously a salesman. I feel as though he was trying to take advantage of me. He knew I was a nervous, new homeowner possibly naive enough to simply say, "Just fix it!" The thing is that I recently experienced flooding in the apartment I rented when the upstairs neighbor's water heater burst. Once I calmed down, I realized that this was very minor in comparison. John had proposed to drill holes in the ceiling and rip up the linoleum and flooring under the washer and dryer, then completely quarantine this area both downstairs and upstairs with plastic barriers. His blowers and the barriers were to stay for 4 or 5 days. When we asked how will we get to the kitchen from the living room, he replied with, "walk around the townhouses to the back door". His method was very extreme for the situation. I would definitely have heeded his advice if the water damage warranted it. He was simply trying to bring in a big sale (he quoted around $3000), and he knew that I wouldn't care how much it cost after I paid the $1000 deductible. Also, he wasn't even going to finish the job! He said that we'd have to hire someone else to come at the end and fix the flooring they were going to pull up, and patch and paint the holes they drilled. The entire time, he was using different tactics to "sell us". He had his moisture meter that beeped and he kept offering to go ahead and start drilling holes right away; despite the fact that he said the work could wait 2 days until Monday. I watched him catch a glimpse of a painting we hadn't hung up yet that was behind a couch. When he keyed in on that, he started warning us that the water could increase the humidity enough to damage our artwork. Basically, he thought that we didn't know much and were panicked enough to agree to file a claim with our home owner's insurance, leaving him with a big fat check for work that should've cost less than even the deductible. Instead, we went with a recommended handyman who has done the work for $150!

Response from Puroclean Disaster Response Services
This was an emergency call out on a Saturday afternoon. The homeowner asked for a free estimate, and we explained it was free for Angie’s List members, but during normal business hours. She agreed to pay for the service call for the estimate. We were onsite within 45 minutes of the original phone call. There were no surprises regarding the charge for the estimate, and the homeowner did not want to wait until Monday for the free estimate. When we walk through and assess the damage after a water loss, we observe and we use special meters to detect exactly where the water is and what has been affected. The technician referred to by the homeowner is John who is the operations manager and owner of the company. John is not a salesman. There is a defined protocol set by the IICRC (Institute of Inspection, Cleaning, and Restoration Certification). PuroClean performs drying using industry standards and IICRC protocols. To deviate or shortcut these processes invites potential future problems, such as, fungal growth, possible health issues, or additional structural damage. Improper action or NO action can sometimes cause additional or secondary damage. Because this is such an important process, the insurance company pays professionals to do the job quickly, properly, and “by the book” the first time. There was no intention to alarm or panic the homeowner. The intent was to educate and make her aware of potential issues. All too often, and understandably so, homeowners look for an inexpensive fix to avoid costly procedures. In this case, we suspect the wet insulation, wet sub-floor, and wet dry wall, were all left in place in the hope that the problem would take care of itself. At PuroClean, we stand behind our work. We are the preferred water mitigation vendor for many insurance companies who want the job done correctly and professionally.

One morning we found a puddle of water on the floor in front of our refrigerator. The water line for the icemaker had leaked and flooded the floor. Later the hardwood floor began to cup. We talked to John, the owner of Puroclean, who came out on Saturday to put out drying mats and fans to reduce the water in the wood. John came out again on Monday to see if the drying was working. Progress had been made, but was still wet. I wanted to save the floor, so John then put up a tent with fans to improve the drying. He also tented under the house. He came daily for a week to track the improvement of the floor and to move the equipment as needed. John saved our floors! When we filed an insurance claim. John explained the process to us. He worked with the adjuster directly. I am grateful for the assistance that John gave me in his quick response, his repeated visits to make sure progress was being made, his meticulousness, his saving of our floors, and his handling of the insurance company.
Description of Work: Dried our hardwood floors after water line leaked.
